Koko held the rifle in her hands almost lovingly, running her hand over its metal surface lightly & barely taking any notice of Finn. She lifted the weapon to her shoulder, looking down the scope & making a small firing sound, pretending that there was slight recoil from the 'shot'. A small giggle emerged from her lips, though she knew she absolutely must not fire the weapon unless there was a reason, otherwise Finn wouldn't be very happy with her...
The man's request made her jerk back to her senses & she quickly lowered the weapon, looking a little sheepish. She turned her attention to the hummer unit, jogging over to it (which for Koko was rather slow) & crouching next to the side where she knew a panel would be. Slinging the rifle across her back the girl took out her combat knife & prized the panel open. The inside was a mess. Obviously someone had tried to fix the thing without knowing what they were doing - the wrong type of fuse had been inserted, various wires were in the wrong places, there was a section where it looked like someone had tried to weld something in place & more. The girl ran a hand through her hair & sighed heavily. "Jeez, these guys were clueless. I mean seriously...."

Finn paced around the 'hummer' unit for a few moments before turning his attention to something that he spotted through the ajar metal door of a large shed. The desert sand was loose and soft underfoot as he made his way toward the rusted shed, pulling one of the doors open, which wasn't easy due to the sand piled up against it. Light flooded the darkened shed, revealing a small airship-type vehicle, which was in a fairly good condition, given it's location. In his earlier days, Finn had spent a long time maintaining and flying aircraft in and around Ares city, he was a skilled pilot in his own right, but his aircraft was lost to a swarm of Franargle. He was surprised to find the aircraft at all, let alone one in such good shape, someone must of found one crashed and repaired it. Finn circled around it, checking for reasons why they may of left it, only finding that they lacked any aircraft fuel. Finn yelled to Koko from inside the shed. "Hey Koko! Don't worry about the hummer, could ya bring the APC over here? I think you'll want to see this..."

Thyra grinned to herself as she noticed that her friend had taken what she was going to cook for their tea. Thyra, over the years, had taught herself how to cook and now felt she was resonably good at it. Once she had finished packing the shopping away Thyra made her way down to the weapon storage room. As she had some time to herself, Thyra decided that she would spend this time cleaning and fixing up her guns. She started with her precious sniper rifle, which she took back up-stairs with her. Rusty flicked his tail as he watched her start to clean the rifle. She giggled as the little creature's fluffy tail tickled her neck. "Oi! Stop that, you little fluffy rat. That tickles!"

Koko had already started tinkering with the hummer unit, but Finn's call made her stop & step away. She called in his vague direction, "Yeah alright, gimme a minute!" She turned & made her way over to the APC, wondering what had gotten her fathers attention this time - he tended to like collecting things, not that she minded, it gave her plenty of things to mess around with. After leaping nimbly onto the vehicle she slipped inside, settling onto the driver's seat. Finn had taught her to drive as soon as she was tall enough to reach the peddles (which luckily was quite quickly, since she was tall for her age) since he figured it would be better if she could drive herself to & from places if he wasn't around, or take over from him if he needed to sleep. She'd learnt quickly & now could drive pretty much anything she needed to.
It didn't take long before she pulled up outside the shed, cutting the APC's engine & emerging from it. She was talking idly as she walked in, "So what is it that you've found this time? Another bunch of weapons, an old vehicle a..... WOAH!" She caught sight of the airship & her mouth fell open, her eyes widening & sparkling at the sight of it. Next moment she was gone, only to reappear at one of the front windows, a delirious smile upon her face as she looked around. She waved at Finn excitedly, practically bouncing around the ship's cockpit.

The mercenary made his way over to the side of the cockpit and poked his head through the open door and looked at the controls. "Looks pretty good... I'll have a look at the rest of it... Could you boot up the computer and run a diagnostic?" He pointed to a set of switches under the edge of the seat that Koko had sat in. "When you get the diagnostic running you can hop out and play with the rifle for a bit, but be careful with it." He fished a single clip of rifle ammunition from one of his pockets and handed it to the girl before heading around to check the condition of the ship in greater detail.
The wings and engines all seemed in fairly good condition, save for a fine covering of dust and several small bullet-holes in one of the wings. Nothing that would effect flight. The engines had been modified somewhat, as many of the original parts had been replaced with newer parts from more advanced aircraft as well as a hover-drive system which improved the vehicle's vertical take off and landing abilities.

oO*Casey*Oo "No more screwing around..." The trio of explorers had been on the go for some time now, and were only around 5 minutes away from the city of Norcorn. It was a pretty new city, so there were always things to do and fix, a brilliant place for Casey to earn money. Casey had had to tell the city engineers to fix the range on the maw worm repellers, since they were far too small last time. Casey was sure she was near the city now, and could slowly see the first row of buildings...but something wasn't right...
The city was usually loud with the sound of construction, but it was silent...it wasn't right. Casey hopped off of Admin and ordered the pair to stay where they were. Casey snapped her walkie talkie to her home's channel and tried to get into contact with Thyra. "Thyra. Norcorn's been taken down by something. I'm gunna take a look. Over." Sliding the talkie into her belt with many pockets, she slowly walked towards the city. She swiftly spotted that there was a distinctive furrow trailing around the streets, over buildings, roads, paths...the place was nearly completely flattened.
After closely studying the furrow, Casey's heart skipped several beats as she realised what made the tracks.
A Maw Worm.
Almost as though it had waited for her to realise, the ground shook biolently, and a hole started to appear. Very quickly, a long, legless creature burst from the ground, and started to snake towards the source of the sound it had heard. One of the first things the woman spotted was the large, gaping mouth lined with hundreds of razor edged teeth. The next thing she noticed through a veil of hazelnut coloured hair, was that iwas only a few metres long. It was a baby...probably inexperienced and very easy to escape.
The maw worm stopped after a while, and pulled half of it's length up to hover, Casey took the chance to grab her dual uzi's and fire off several bullets into it's soft underside. A shriek escaped the beast as it teetered and finally fell, a thud resonating through the floor, touching Casey's feet. She smirked as she ran towards it, the Maw Worm flinging it's head up, mouth open, attempted to chomp down on her legs. Casey holstered her guns and drew her serrated blade (she had extended it now). With a deft leap, as the maw worm started to bury again, she pushed the blade deep into's it's back, and then ran along, dragging the blade up it's spine. With almost a maniacal laugh, she leapt off at his tail end. The corpse behind her split down the middle with an ear piercing cry, only held together by the head. "Just like filleting a fish," she mused, heading back to the skittish pair not far off. {OOC:.}

Koko stopped her bouncing for a moment to take the ammunition before she leaned over the edge of the seat she was on, spotting the switches Finn was pointing to. She couldn't wait to go out & play with the rifle - not that she'd ever used one before, sure she'd watched Finn, but she probably wouldn't be able to fire it anyway. After a couple of moments there was a beep & a few of the lights on the dashboards lit up & a computerised voice sounded in the cockpit; Auxiliary power at 65%, running a full system disgnostic. The young girl looked up at her father, grinning widely at what she'd managed to achieve. Since the ship was running on auxiliary power that probably meant it needed a new power source, but she figured Finn would figure that out by himself.
Leaping off the chair she had been sat in Koko ran outside, rifle slung across her back, calling 'bye!' as she did so. Having exited the shed she wandered around for a few minutes, searching for a good place to test the weapon, eventually settling on a large slab of rock that overlooked some of Ares native plants - a set of small bush-like plants that could pull themselves underground if the weather turned bad or if they felt threatened. Taking the rifle from her back she turned it over in her hands, just looking at it for a while with a childish smirk on her face. She just couldn't believe she was actually going to do this! She quickly fed the clip into the top of the weapon, once she was sure it was properly loaded she flicked off the safety before pulling back the heavy bolt with relative ease - her time on Ares had already started to have an effect on her muscles, which were now lightly toned - to chamber a round. Now the girl looked down the modified scope, taking aim at one of the plants while making sure her left hand was holding the front hand guard securely & that the stock was pressed firmly against her shoulder. She inhaled slowly, levelling the weapon so that it was as steady as possible before pulling back on the trigger with her right forefinger. The recoil as the bullet left the chamber was quite a lot for her small frame to take, but not nearly as bad as she expected it to be & she immediately pulled back on the bolt to eject the casing of the spent bullet & chamber the next. The sound of the shot carried across the emptiness of the desert, making her ears ring a little but the grin never left her face. As she looked down at the plants she saw that all of them had retreated underground, except for the scattered remains of the one she'd been aiming at. Koko jumped up into the air, pumping her fist & yelling, "YEEEAH!"

Finn glanced back into the ship's cockpit as the results of the diagnostics came up with only a few minor faults and a warning about the primary power source needing to be recharged. It was an easy fix, replacing the dead batteries with a newer, more powerful spare fusion battery from the APC.
The familiar crack of his rifle could be heard as he stepped back outside to find Koko shooting at the plant-life. The shredded remains of the plant quickly dried up in the intense sunlight in the time it took for Finn to reach the slab of rock that Koko had chosen to shoot from. "Lucky first shot.. I'll bet you can't do it again" The mercenary grinned.
"Oh yeah, it looks like we'll be flying home today too."

Koko raised her head a little at Finn's voice, squinting due to the bright sunlight, though she still had a wide grin on her face. She held the gun proudly, her gaze flicking over to the dried plant remnants every now & again. Her father's statement made her huff & pout slightly, "I'll show ya, I bet I can hit another when they pop back up!" The girl flicked the safety on the gun back on - better to be safe than sorry - while she waited for the vegetation to reappear. It was at this moment that she twigged what Finn's second statement had been. Flying home? Did that mean the ship was flight-worthy?!
Returning her gaze to the man's face, Koko's eyes widened with excitement, "So you fixed it? It can fly? Can I try flying it? I won't break it! I promise! I'll sit on your lap & you can just let me use the steering controls, pleeeease!" She couldn't wait to have a go in it, even if Finn decided to say no to her flying it, riding in the ship would still be really cool! Sure she'd seen plenty of wrecked ships & the occasional one would fly over-head, but it was a completely different thing to actually be able to have a ride in one.

Thyra looked up from cleaning to stare at the radio on the table. She could hear Casey's voice coming from the radio. Sighing the blonde set her gun onto the seat next to her and walked over to the radio, picking it up. "Thyra. Norcorn's been taken down by something. I'm gunna take a look. Over." The mercenary sighed and shook her head, that girl was going to get herself into serious trouble one day. Still Thyra was more than a little worried if Norcorn had indeed been taken down by something.

Finn grinned, the prospect of flying particularly excited him as it would mean he could get home faster and by that he meant to the nearest bar, and by that he really meant the company of some lovely ladies. His trail of thought was interrupted by Koko's question, to which he replied with an unimpressed facial expression. "A rifle is one thing, an aircraft is quite another... Maybe some other time?" He'd risk the teenager's dreaded pout for what potentially could of saved his life.
The strange vegetation cautiously started emerging from the ground once again turning towards the sun, but before Koko could take aim, Finn spoke again. "This time, exhale slowly as you take the shot. Accuracy is key in mercenary work, if you miss, you aren't gunna get another go... Wait... do you hear that?"
There was an eerie wailing noise coming from upstairs inside one of the buildings, the noise sounded like a woman sobbing loudly. "Wait here, I'll check it out..." Finn took his revolvers from their holsters and headed toward the building; a set of bloodshot eyes appearing in the upstairs window. "You okay in there? Hello?" As he got closer, the noise built from a low wailing into a tortured screech, which sounded distorted and inhuman, not to mention terrifying. Finn, this desert is ******** with you man... Seriously, what do you expect to find in there? Whatever it is will definitely try to kill you
The man's curiosity quickly evaporated as the eyes following his movements disappeared from the glass and the noise stopped, leaving only a strange gurgling sound. Whatever was in there, he really didn't care anymore. He muttered before walking back to Koko.
He returned to his young accomplice and summed up what he'd seen: "This place is ******** up."

oO*Casey*Oo "No more screwing around..." Casey reached the animals, but then wondered why something like this would have happened. Cities were supposed to be protect by sonar deterrents right? Casey turned away and searched for the devices, thin silver spines with support bars either side. They went underground, and had a power box on the side. Spotting one a short space away, she made her way over to it and popped the silver power box open. It was a simple error, and therefore one that could be fixed.
Casey reached for her walkie talkie and decided to ask for a favour; "Thyra. It's Casey. Think you could bring a couple of sonar deterrent fuses out? Over" she asked. She couldn't specify how many because she had no idea how many fuses were busted. There were usually enough sonar doohiccys to surround the damn cities, so this might take a while. As she waited, Casey flopped to the floor her hands burying in the sand.
Why? Why on earth did she have the sudden urge to make a sandcastle? {OOC:.}

 Thyra heard Casey's voice come in over the radio again. "Thyra. It's Casey. Think you could bring a couple of sonar deterrent fuses out? Over" The blonde merc picked up the radio and pressed the talk button. "Thyra here. Yeah, I'll bring you some fuses." She paused taking the radio with her on her hunt for sonar deterrent fuses. "This to do with Norcorn? Over." Thyra pulled out a large black box from the bottom of one of the cupboards. She placed the radio next to her as she opened it, then started searching the box. After taking a good deal of just...well....rubbish, bits of scrap metal and things, out of the box Thyra found the fuses.
Putting the fuses and the radio in a small backpack, as well a two bottles of water and some food, Thyra left the house and locked the front door. Rusty had hidden himself in her bag, his little head poking out from the top. The blonde mercenary walked over to the house's garage and opened the door. Inside was an Ares-made quad-bike. "How are you, my darlin'?" Thyra grinned and hopped into the driving seat, setting off for whatever was left of Norcorn.

Koko had just started to raise the rifle again when she too heard the wailing noise & looked towards the building it was emanating from. Something about it made a cold chill run straight down her spine & it was all she could do to nod in reply to Finn's statement about checking the place out. Without really thinking about what she was doing the girl lifted the gun she was holding so that she could look through the scope; as she moved she caught sight of something in the upstairs window, something that made her jump, shriek slightly & drop the gun. What the heck was in there?!
By the time Finn returned to her, the girl had retrieved the gun & was stood with it clutched tightly to her chest, shivering ever so slightly. After a few moments she looked up at him, her bright blue eyes wide, like a startled rabbit. Suddenly she was clinging to him, burying her head into him & mumbling, "Finn... can we leave please....? I don't like this place..." Though she had gotten braver over the last few years, there were still certain things that scared the girl.

Finn didn't need convincing, moments later he jumped into the cockpit of the aircraft, which had both a pilot and gunner seat, the gunner seat being situated lower than and in front of the pilot seat. He climbed into the pilot's seat and strapped himself in as Koko did the same in the gunner seat. The windscreen lowered back into place and hissed as the cockpit pressurised. The mercenary slipped a helmet onto his head and passed a second one down to his gunner.
There was a moment of silence as the pilot waited for Koko to put the helmet on before he started up the ship, the computers flashing into life and the engines emitting a low humming sound as they powered up. "That is a beautiful sound!" He pushed the throttle lever forward, making the engines roar, as well as blasting the back wall of the shed open with the force of the afterburners. "HOLD ON TIGHT!" Finn had to yell over the volume of the thrusters. The next second, he released the ship's brakes and pulled the control lever towards him, sending the ship jolting forwards and pulling up off the ground quickly, smashing one of the shed's doors off as it left.
The mercenary turned pilot slowed the ship and activated the hover-drive, which allowed the ship to fly more like a helicopter than a jet. "I wanna get a better look at this place... Try not to shoot it up too much..."
He hovered the ship over the rooftops of the houses, wondering if whatever was making all the noise and watching him from the window of that house was the same thing that had mutilated the other man.
