"Shut the hell up, a*****e." Quintessa snapped, pointing her finger at his nose. "I'm a woman, and I'm due a b***h fit when I see fit, got it?" When she stepped away, her eyes went to the mini crowd watching the two of them, but they scattered quickly enough with a flash of her lightning spear.

"Look, I'm just hungry, okay?" She tapped the butt of her spear on the ground irritably. "And aggrivated as hell. Nothing about today has turned out the way it should. I don't think I've screwed up this bad in my entire life." Her stumpy tail whipped about in the chilly breeze. "I can tell you right now that nothing in this piss poor village is worth stealing, so we'd better start hunting."

His eyes crossed slightly to look at the finger in front of his face, uncrossing them to look at the irritated face beyond. Not much to be done with a cranky woman than to let her rant her emotions off, though he winced slightly as the gawking crowd was threatened.

However, his ears perked as she continued talking. So that's what this was about? She was angry at herself? ..Eh, served her right for trying to kill him without asking. Still... As they slipped between buildings to enter the woods, his hand dropped to take hers, giving her fingers a little squeeze.

"So, I don't know about you, but I'm not usually this restricted when hunting. Any ideas on how to do this?" His stomach complained about the mouthful he'd put into it, as well as the rest of the empty space, and he slapped his abs firmly, telling it to be quiet.

At first, all Quintessa could worry about was the cold and her own fury. By the time she realized Gabriel had squeezed her hand and was still holding onto it they were a good distance into the woods. She flushed, and turned her face away, but held on regardless.

Mmm. Why couldn't she have slapped those abs? Or better yet...."If we had time, I would suggest setting a trap, but our best bet is tracking." She padded further, her sharp eyes glinting over the ground. It was a little while longer before she spotted hoof prints in the mud. "See?" She murmured. "Tracks. We just have to follow these, and we can eat."
PostPosted: Sat Oct 22, 2011 12:34 pm

Tracking. Yeah, that would be simple enough. He looked around as well, perking his ears when she pointed out the tracks. "M'kay." His voice was already a little softer in preperation the hunt. He still wasn't certain how they were going to catch something while dragging each other around. They were going to actually have to work together for this to be successful. The thought made him smirk again. "I'm guessing you want to lead this dance?" He asked lightly, letting go of her hand so that he could hold onto the chain between them to keep it from rattling and warning their prey.

"And let you miss out on all the fun, big boy?" Quintessa murmured, tossing a saucy grin back his way. "This is my first time hunting wild game so....be gentle." She took one step into the brush, slipping her paws underneath some twigs to keep them from snapping. There was no way she was going to be able to use her usual techniques without scaring their prey away, and electric magic in a forest was too risky.

Gabriel chuckled and shook his head. "I don't know how much more fun I can handle." He admitted, the past hours starting to wear on him when the idea that a hopefully decent bed was so close, though he continued keeping his tone light and unaffected. If she could handle it, so could he.

Her casual statement completely surprised him though, and he couldn't help how much it showed. "...Say that again?" He asked as his steps hesitated. She'd never hunted wild prey before? She had to be teasing him. To reach adulthood without hunting at all just didn't make sense to him; especially when the idea was applied to the cattaur he was chained to. ..Was she serious?

"What? Are you deaf?" Quintessa clicked her tongue, curling her upper lip in disgust even as a blush spread out across her cheeks. "I've never hunted wild game before."

Seeing something move in the brush before them, she quickly placed her hand infront of him with a 'shh!'. Something was in there, she knew it, but what....Childlike curiosity emanated from her. What if she scared it off? Or worse, what if it attacked?

He almost made a joke, but her blush made him smile instead. Aww~ How cute. Even she got embarrassed about things. So, she hunted other taur, but not her own food? .....

A comment about cannibalism nearly shot out, but the shushing and the sound of the rustling brush made him clamp his mouth shut, ears instantly perked forward. Carefully, he bunched more of the chain into his hand to prevent all rattling, his paws slowly stepping forward, quickly falling into hunter mode. After all, dinner was serious business. He couldn’t really tell what it was from here, but if they delayed too long to find out, they might miss their chance.. And they had to be on the same page, since they were stuck together for the time being.

He looked at Quintessa, a little amused by the look on her face. It was less hunter and more curious. He nudged her arm to get her attention, made a pouncing motion toward the noise, and held up four fingers, lowering one at a time in a countdown. Hopefully she was ready.

Quintessa suppressed her paws against the soft foliage, careful not to step on anything that may give them away. When she looked over to Gabriel, she nodded, excitement clear in the smile on her face. Was this what young taurs felt like when they were out on their first hunt? It was thrilling; a somehow more natural feeling than slaying one of your own kind, though that came with it's own rewards.

When he lowered his last finger she pounched.

Tessa realized then that the creature was a dear that had bedded down for the night. It bucked against her as she dug her claws into it's rump and wrapped her arms around it's waist. She growled, and squeezed as hard as she could, though it did little good. The young buck struggled against her. "Kill the damn thing already!" She snapped.

If they hadn't been depending on this meal to fill their empty bellies, he would have laughed at the excitement so clear on the cattaur’s face. It’d been a long time since he could remember being so pleased to be hunting for food.

They leapt forward together, and it took him an extra moment to figure out where the creature was compared to what Quintessa was doing. He didn’t want to grab the wrong body, and with Tessa’s arms already locked around the deer, his arm was limited in what it could do. Snorting as he was yelled at, his free hand grabbed the buck’s antlers and yanked it down, defeating the creature’s struggles to stand. His forepaws stood on its shoulders to stabilize while his hand shot over and gripped under the jaw, and with one swift and hard twist he felt the neck snap. The body continued to twitch a little longer, something he had always found a little repulsive, and then it stilled.

With that done, he gave their chained arms a stiff yank out of irritation as he stood back up. He was glad that the creature had been a relatively harmless deer, but being restrained had been one of the worst sensations ever. He never liked being restrained, and he’d never had such an issue when hunting. “Don’t be yellin’ at me when you can’t hold a little deer down.” He retorted, his frustration already passing on and his protective playfulness rising again. “How’s that for your first time anyway?” He asked with a curious smile.

As brutal as the creature's death was, Quintessa was more impressed than startled. She hadn't expected Gabriel to be so efficent when it came to the hunt. In all honesty, she expected to be in the lead, despite her inexperience, but he had just proven her wrong. The asassin in her approved of his methods, but the feminine side...oh, she just wanted to jump him.

When the chain was yanked, Quintessa instinctively stood up, then frowned, irritated with herself for having done so. She didn't like how accustomed she was becoming to being pulled around. Even his little jab didn't phase her. "Eh," Quintessa shrugged, then turned back to him with an excited grin. "I'm not really impressed with it myself, but you? I didn't know you had that in you. I haven't seen a clean kill like that in a long time." If he could cook as well, she would-

"Get down!" She hissed, simultaneously yanking down on the chain as she pulled his shoulders down. "Look, over there!" She murmured. Quintessa hadn't noticed before just how close they had been to a private dock, but now, under the moon light she could see figures moving. At this distance, back on a little hill in the woods, they weren't in danger of being seen, but that figure... "Is that...the man who framed you?"
PostPosted: Thu Feb 23, 2012 7:35 am

His smirk rose further as Quintessa's grin rose again. Not impressed, huh? His brow rose in surprise at her comment about him though. His free hand rose and combed modestly through his hair, while trying to mask the immense pleasure he felt at her approval with a dismissive snort. "Been hunting since I was a kid. Not that big a d-" He grunted in surprise at the sudden pull, nearly falling over as he dropped. Her tone immediately had him on edge though, and his eyes darted to see where she was looking, muscles quickly reacting so that he wouldn't make noise as they ducked down. Frowning, he carefully pushed a fern out of his way, squinting to see. A private dock away from the main town, and a few figures walking around. Were docks usually active this late? Quintessa's question made his jaw tighten, and he shook his head. "I can't tell for sure from here. We'll have to get closer." The moonlight could only reveal so much from this distance.

He started forward, but then stopped himself, and his hand rose to hold firmly to Tessa's shoulder. Just the possibility of that idiot being so close had his fur rankled, and he didn't like getting so worked up. His tone was intent and completely serious after a slow exhale. "Listen... If that is him, I'm sorely tempted to simply break his neck here and now like I did that deer." His gaze flicked over to the the cattauress, locking onto her eyes. "You're gonna make sure I don't, right?" He'd never found himself as furious at someone as he was in this case. And why not? The man had tried to have him killed! And for such a stupid reason... Unfortunately, he needed that numskull alive in order to prove his innocence save his own neck from Tessa's leader; that rather terrifying cattaur with all those scars.

Suddenly, he wanted his brother there. The golden fox was always able to calm him down, and was able to handle nearly any situation with a level head. He almost snorted at himself for such a thought, especially since he didn't want anyone in his family to know what was happening or to be involved in any way, but he was focused on getting Tessa to make sure he didn't lose sight of what needed to be done.

Quintessa nodded her acceptance. Even with her trained eyes, she couldn't see the necessary details from this angle, in this light. All she had seen was a flash of yellow, and a shaved head; much too generalized to make a hasty decision.

She was ready to end this. Or..was she? Pulling pulled into that stop, turning her eyes to look into his sent a shiver down her spine. It happened frequently enough when her prey was in sight, but now...now she had her eye on a new prize. A prize she wouldn't risk harming. She found his hand in the darkness, and gave it a squeeze. "You have my word." It was all she could say that wouldn't give away whatever sentimental bullshit was trying to thrive in her chest. "Innocent until proven guilty, remember? Until you're free, his head is not yours to take." The way she said it spoke of a future where he would be able to exact his vengeance however way he preferred.

With a deep inhale, the cattauress took hold of her spear in one hand, and the chain in the other. She slipped down the hill as quietly, and quickly as possible, listening in for any slip of a conversation. She could hear someone speaking, but there was no way for her to tell if this was their target or not. Tessa slipped her eyes to Gabriel, asking without speaking if this was him or not.

(Oh yes. :3)

Once he had her promise, Gabriel took a deep breath and headed down toward the water with her. While that squeeze to his hand would probably have delighted him a few minutes ago, it now took a back burner to his other emotions, and his focus on the target. It didn't look like too many taur were working this late. If this was the guy, it would be difficult to get him away without his absence being noticed quickly. ..A risk he was willing to take.

Thankfully, being swift and quiet through the woods was second nature to him after so much hunting training from his mother and with his siblings. He could really focus on what was ahead. He quickly glanced at Tessa when he felt her eyes on him, and he shook his head. Those voices were wr- That one! He froze, eyes widening to catch the light and see through the protection of the bushes. Coming up to the fire from the dock... His fur raised immediately, and he clenched his jaw tight to keep a growl from slipping out. He didn't think Tessa needed him to point out that their target had shown himself. The yellow taur was laughing with his pals, though looked somewhat aggitated as well. Probably waiting to hear a confirmation... and that thought just rankled Gabriel's fur even more!

If they hadn't been attached, Tessa would have offered to split up to take out the lesser targets; the fools hanging around the jealous idiot. However, circumstances being what they were, she could only hope that this attack would work.

She stood, her eyes shifting from a flame to a shard of ice while the tip of her spear began to cackle. Little sparks of lighting bounced around the blade, sending shock waves up her arms to the very tip of her tail. Everything about the attack would be in the timing, and it- There! She'd waited until the group were near each other to send out her attack. A bolt of lighting shot out, catching one square in the chest before she shifted to the next. This time, her targets were aware, and it only managed to nick his arm. No matter; she'd taken out one, and the only taur she really needed was right before her.

"Don't move!" She growled, rushing out the brush. Surprise wasn't possible with a manacle around your wrist. "If you do, I swear it'll be your last."
