I will. I've been trying to get more active and less lazy.

I will. I've been wanting to start meditating daily or at least weekly for a while now, and with the semester ending next week I'll have time too.

I'd like to join in. I'm trying to find new prompts and things to do for meditation and energy exercises and the like.

OK you guys you know you really have to remind me to do things otherwise I forget about them and they don't get done xd

Um OK. So, let's start with air. It's a simple one. Do anything with it you like. Let us know how things go.

I've got a couple of ideas for this one. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yesterday was a nice breezy day so I lit some incense and sat on my back porch experiencing the wind. I have trouble making my brain shut up when meditating so I tried to give it lots of things to focus on instead. This meditation was about the details and the many ways to experience Air.

I listened to the sound of the wind through the winter trees and watched the old leaves and bare branches as they moved in it. I felt the chill of it on my face and arms (Who needs a coat? It's only 25F xp ). I watched the incense smoke swirl and puff and noted when the wind wafted the scent to me, and I listened to the sound of the highway, carried on the wind. Through all this I breathed deeply, feeling the air fill and leave my lungs, noting it both within and without, seeing wisps of breath in the chill.

I think it worked well. By giving myself something to do with a lot of ways to experience it, I was able to keep my talking mind focused on the task at hand. It was still a little jumbled but at least I wasn't thinking about what to make for dinner or how annoying the seams on my clothes are (it's a thing for me). My mind was chattering and analyzing but it was all on the topic at hand.

So I decided to give it a try. We're actually in the middle of a wind advisory right now. So I thought "What better time to try a meditation with the focus on air when I can hear the wind in my room?"

So first I meditated on breathing which lead to how we depend on air for that. Then once I got my mind to settle enough (been on edge for the past couple days), I started listening to the wind and imagining how it would feel blowing on my skin. But while I was doing that the image of me standing in front of a tree popped into my head for a few moments. Then my mind starting wondering onto other things so I started focusing on my breathing again and listening to my mom snore for the couple minutes I could hear her. I went back to focusing on the wind but when I got the image of the same tree again, it felt like someone was trying to push me down which made me lose all concentration on what I was doing.

So I'm gonna try again tomorrow. See if any of that just had to deal with the stress from the past couple days.

It was pretty uneventful for me. It's way to cold outside right now, so feeling a fresh breeze is a no go. So instead I huddled in front of my heater and felt the warm air against my skin.

I couldn't really focus, I couldn't think of what about air to mediate on. The few fleeting thoughts didn't add up to much. Although at the end I started thinking of how smoke (from incense, cigarettes, etc) form and float up into little patterns when there is no breeze.

Maybe try your meditation with some incense going then. The smoke swirls are visually interesting and focusing on them could be a great way to engage yourself without getting to here and now. And since a lot of people use incense for spiritual or magical purposes, it can help set the mood too and get you in the right frame of mind.

Yeah, I think I'll try that when I get home from work and the house is calm and quiet.

I do the same thing. It's why I can ground a lot easier than meditate.

Which thing? And what does any of it have to do with grounding?

There are particular incense scents just called "meditation" that really do seem to focus your mind. It may be just psychosomatic but it's still pretty interesting! A friend of mine used to bring an oil blend to exams and we'd all douse our handkerchiefs in it. Great stuff. Anyway, I recommend it!

I am soooo thrilled with everyone's responses! All I did was count my breaths xd

OK this week, because I just got myself a proper libation dish, the exercise is an object. But a particular object! Either choose an object that already has spiritual meaning for you, or if you are feeling a little adventurous, go out in search of another object to add to your altar or shrine. A stone, a bowl, a statue, an incense burner, a candlestick, whatever you like. Use it as a focus for this week's meditation. (Maybe you will want to hold a ritual and dedicate the object at some point and incorporate the meditation as a part of that.)

I apologize. I completely forgot a part of my response. My mind does the same thing where it goes a million miles a minute so I feed it a lot of details to focus on and create which allows me to focus. When I ground I use the technique mentioned by Morg somewhere here in that Energy Work thread we had. So I focus on the feel, the taste, the image of the energy, my breath. I try to overload my brain with details about the grounding which in turn makes it work better for me and focuses my mind. Visiting and talking with my Bear(which I need to post a thread about) is almost easy now that I figured how to leash my brain. Kinda.
