Mark rocked his head with the tune a little. "She's pretty good at music, I'm suprised she isn't one of Apollo's children." He waited till she was finished to clap.

Alexis stopped. Sensing what Mark was thinking, she said, "One of my previous guardians was a music teacher. She gave me this violin," Alexis said, waving the black instrument, "and taught me how to play. My dad is the god of eternal darkness and death. Doesn't relate to music at all."

Alexis smiled slightly, happiness spreading across her pale face. Laughter is pretty infectious, she thought. "New here?"

" You can tell?" asked Mark. " But yes I'm new." he said. He noticed the smile on her face. He thought for a moment, " Then my mother was right, I can make people smile.."

Alexis raised her delicate black eyebrows. "Hm. I can remember the time when I found out that my dad was Thanatos...was pretty shaken up." She examined Mark with her expressionless purple eyes.

" Well, finding out I was Apollo's child kinda shook me up a bit. I didn't think I was a child of a god until a beast came to destroy me. I'm still kinda getting used to it." he said laughing and scratching his head embarrassed.

Alexis stared at Mark, her expression somber. "Your dad is actually cool. My dad is a horrible son of a gun." She looked down. "Well, I bet you at least had your mom to take care of you, right?"

Mark looked up to the ceiling. " Yea.." said Mark quietly. " She took care of me till I was 10. Then I went to visit my grandparents. I later found out she had died. A satyr examined where we lived and said some thing killed her." he said.

Alexis paused. "I'm sorry." Then she looked up at the ceiling also, and she spoke. "I grew up in an orphanage. I was told both of my parents died. I was running from house to house, deserting whoever adopted me because they were usually maniacs. I was almost killed at least seventeen times." Alexis gave a shaky laugh. "A satyr found me and took me to camp, not long ago. I've been here, for what, say, a month."

"Well we've both been through a lot, but with others that are just like us. So we all kind share the same past." He put his hands on her shoulder. " I've only been at camp for about three weeks." he cocked his head a little. " Please don't take this as an insult but, for a daughter of Thanatos you seem pretty happy." he said hoping her or her dad didn't get upset.

Alexis shrugged. "I hate my dad. I'm not anything like him, except I can use shadows and darkness to strangle people." She looked at her pale hand. "My mom was a half-blood, too. She was a daughter of Erebus."
