For Devi:

The white potion is set down.

The green potion smelled like rot, and something like sugar behind a sharp smokescreen of ethanol: it felt as though it was scrubbing her throat raw on the way down, and then everything started to get breathless and small. As had happened to Doctor Westerman was happening to her, and she was shrinking down down down to his doll-size even as Polaris' "No!" echoed above her like a reverb-heavy loudspeaker.

She could now fit in the small door.

For those who turned their keys, married in synchronicity:

It very nearly worked.

Their keys all gave the exact same angle, nearly turning enough to flip the mechanism. They could feel some sort of bar being shoved aside as they all turned at once, which let them rattle their keys further than they'd ever managed before. But there was one little bar that impeded the quarter-inch it would take to fully unlock their doors, and as Perry and Devorah saw, the second little door next to Perry's key gave a miserable lonely plink! in concert as the other five tried their doors.

For John:

The scrap of blue cloth was powder-blue, a bridesmaid colour barring the old blood flecks on it. To his eye, he still couldn't tell what kind of fabric it was.

[Polaris, John, Vanessa and Corvus all can see movement in the ceiling. Perry and Devorah cannot make out the ceiling. It is dropping. A thin green smoke is starting to envelop the bottom of the keys, and the giants all feel nauseous. You have three more turns.]

Polaris and Van are bleeding lightly. There are three broken bottles and seven empty bottles. There is Europa's corpse covered by a sash. Van has a piece of blue cloth. Corvus holds a bottle of clear water each. Three potions remain.

The ceiling is dropping, though this is only noticeable to the giants. They can see movement on the ceiling with objects glimmering above.

Drunk potions:

Red
Blue
Teal
Black
Beige
Purple
Green

Spilled:

Puce
White

Remaining:

Yellow
Pink
Orange

"By our powers combined," said John, a little breathlessly, in a little bit of wonder at the prospect of escape -- "All right. Can you understand what I'm saying down there?" Brief silence. "Not that I'd know either way, but -- let's try this all in concert on the count of three? Okay, Planeteers --"

He seized hold of his key with both hands to turn it, after stowing the cloth in his shirt (discovering he no longer had a belt to tuck it in), and said, "One --"

-She held her breath as the key turned, her heart soaring as it almost seemed like it was going to work. But it stopped. Still... the light of hope was there.

She noted the green smoke, trying for a moment to see where it was coming from. The keyhole? Somewhere in the door or wall? It was possible the smoke was toxic, that they'd open up a gas chamber. Possible. She could clearly see that the spiked keys were drawing nearer and nearer. Priorities first and bridges to cross later.-

"Ready" -She nodded, preparing to turn the key once again when the word three sounded.-

So close. They had been so close! Whatever it was, whatever they were doing, they'd almost...

Her thoughts were cut short by a wave of nausea, but the start of a count coming from the other side of her drew her back, mind over matter pushing the feeling of the sickness back down as she prepared to turn her key on the count "Two..."

Devi's landed safely in her leap of faith, a tiny little doll.

"Hey Doctor Westerman, look, we're like Barbie and Ken sized!" she smiled. Devi hadn't played with those dolls in a long time. The last time she played with them, she just got them naked and bumped their bodies together with great force. She later cut off all their limbs and buried them in her backyard. Hopefully nobody does that to them. Neither the naked-bumping or dismemberment-and-burial would be pleasant.

Her attention shifted to the sound of the tiny door. "I'll get it!" she called, as if it were the doorbell ringing. She moved to the second door that made the plink and got ready to turn the key on the countdown of the loud echoing noises of the even larger-seeming giants.

"Well, that's good to hear," squeaked Perry back at Dev good-naturedly. "Once we get out of this mess you can tell me all about your five hundred amazing careers, or something."

He didn't have to be told twice about the keys, go -- like everyone else, at the count of three he'd be turning his key with the rest of them. Hopefully there would be relative safety on the other side of the door, otherwise -- well. He decided to set aside any thoughts on "otherwise" for the moment.

It had almost worked.

Vanessa, who had seen the spikes that hung from the ceiling up close and person, was very aware of the ceiling as it crept ever closer. They were running out of time, and she swore loudly; "********!" and stomped a giant foot with frustration when their first key-turning marathon did not work. She buzzed with energy, having almost come completely back to herself after her little tango with the gas and the ceiling, and waited impatiently as they counted down.

A sense of nausea assaulted her, but Super Van gritted her teeth and was determined not to think about it. There were more important things going on right now.

This was so exciting. She felt like Indiana Jones. Or like Lara Croft. Or like Harry ******** Potter in the Chamber of Secrets.

"THREE!" She declared, and tried the key once more.

For all:

The two small doors and the four gigantic doors opened, revealing nothing but darkness ahead. From far-off they could hear the lapping of water, but no more.

[Polaris, John, Vanessa and Corvus all can see the ceiling, not far now from the top of their doors. Perry and Devorah cannot make out the ceiling. It is dropping. A thin green smoke is starting to envelop the bottom of the keys, and the giants all feel further nausea. You have two more turns.]

John didn't need further telling -- just cast a glance at the rest of his party to make sure they were all accounted for in front of their own open door, then left this task to their own common sense and, without a word, got the hell out of Dodge.

Devi looked up - she didn't see any ceiling, but she knew that didn't mean it wasn't still falling. It was likely to crush them at any minute. And if that didn't crush them, Polaris may drop something on her. With that thought, Devi left through her door creeping into the unknown.

-The doors opened, all of them swinging open in strange harmony like one living organism. If ever there was an argument for teamwork this looked like it. John was leaving, and she was more then happy to follow. But she had to do something first.

Polaris stepped away from her door long enough to kneal near her doll sized fallen comrade. It still hurt her chest.. the flashing memory of Europa's last moments.. or not. She was still perplexed by the familar boot that peeked out of the sash covering.

Perhaps it was dangerous... but her friend.. her occasional partner deserved the respect of not being skewered and kabobed. Maybe her blood wasn't dangerous at all.. and if it was, maybe her own ivory gloves would keep her safe enough from it.

Polaris' hands were gentle as she attempted to take Europa's sash covered corpse before she would head towards her door to leave.-

There was nothing quite so sweet as success.

Vanessa's face exploded into a grin that radiated with joy when each of the doors opened, and she performed a shamelessly silly victory dance on the spot. Super Van struck a heroic pose, held her hands in the shape of pistols, blew hot air over the tips of both of them, and then stepped into the unknown.

It opened! The door had opened! The desire to bounce up and down with a celebratory cheer was cut short by the sickness... Well, the sickness and the knowledge that bouncing at this point, with the spikes so close above her head, might lead to the same unpleasantness that they had been trying to avoid by not getting impaled by the keys.

Corvus glanced down quickly, unable to make out the smaller members of their party, but feeling the need to at least check for Devi anyways. Hopefully she was safe too. Hopefully they all would be. "See you guys on the other side."

A pity Corvus hadn't paused to consider the morbidity of her words before stepping into the darkness beyond.

The doors swinging open was met with a whoop of jubilation from Dr. Westerman -- or at least, what a whoop of jubilation sounded like at his size. And without another moment of hesitation, he stepped out of the door and into the darkness beyond.
