Oh! It is exciting, Jasrai! Roseth exclaimed. She hadn't wanted to be interested in these other eggs, but she couldn't help catching the excitement from everyone else there. She even wiggled a little as she sat beside Kannaroth, nudging her sister accidentally.
Look! Did you see? She stood up to that brown. Yes! Roseth was thrilled. She wondered if she would be applauded like the littler green was if she did the same thing. Whether she would or not, she approved of her spirit.
Kannaroth, are we allowed to talk to them? I want to tell her good job.
"Don't," Jasrai advised. "You'll distract her from Impressing."
No I won't. She just Impressed. To another girl!
Suddenly Roseth wasn't happy. She was less special now. There were more greens with female riders. She didn't like that at all. Maybe she didn't like that green, either.

The green had gone to Cass... She was happy for her. She was, but it was as they had said to one another. Really, you always hoped the most for yourself. There were two eggs yet to hatch though, the streaked sky and the queen egg. One of them might choose her. She was trebling with tension now, she felt as if every muscle in her body were knotted, as if her feet were on fire, her heart exploding. Two more chances. Please be there. Please. She didn't want to be alone anymore!

Enthralling. Verianne watched the other dragonets Impress Theirs and waddle away with a small smile. For a first Hatching, this had been almost heartwarming. The bronze had hurt a girl, but to her awareness the girl would survive.
That left the gold egg, a blue-colored egg, and the brown. Yes, there might still be a chance for her, but all-in-all, Verianne was content with the way things had gone.

Look at that green go! So much spunk! Perhaps it was best that she impressed to another girl, Lelia didn't know if she could handle that much excitement, that much energy. Shayle and Zev were handfuls as it was, but...if an excited dragon chose her, she would love it too. The dragons knew best, but with only two left, it didn't seem likely that she had a chance. Oh, she wanted a dragon. She wanted a friend, a confidant, a soul mate. But...if this wasn't her time, it wasn't her time. She could wait, she would be patient. Her time would come. Good things came to those who waited, right?

"Eek!" Cass exclaimed as the little green firmly tried to wedge herself between the little blond's legs in an attempt to geta way from the hissing brown. The girl fell over onto the sands, leaving the little green standing and looking down at her rider.
Cass mine! What are you doing on the sand like that! the little green asked, blinking at her in surprise.
"I-I..." Cass was at a loss for words for the first time in a very long time as she stared up into those lovely blue eyes. "I'm sorry Vespereth!" She said, leaning forward and wrapping her arms around her little dragon's neck, Her heart soared, she had found her other half, her perfect match! And they were so alike! She pulled away after planting a kiss on Vespereth's nose and stood up and brushed herself off.
The little green giggled mentally, butting her head gently against her rider all but prancing in place 'come on, Cass mine! I am sooo hungry, and that meanie is still looking at me!' she said, craning her neck around and sticking her little tongue out at the brown, making Cass laugh merrily.
"Alright alright! Lets go then and get you fed!" the blond girl said, almost skipping off the sands, her green following along beside her. Possible trials as a girl riding a fighting dragon didn't even cross her mind in this happiest of moments, though no doubt reality would come crashing in, sooner or later. For the time being though, there was only Cass and Vespereth, gladly soaking up the attention they had garnered there on the sands before heading off to feed the ravenous little hatchling.

Zhierd watched as the green chose another one of the girls. Well, he was glad to see a few more riders but was quite jealous. There were only a couple left now and his heart was beginning to sink even more. Then again this was only his second time on the sands, he needed to remind himself. There would be more hatchings, or at least he hoped that there would be. It would just be rather hard for him to watch... no, he mustn't think like that. He should be glad that his friends had impressed and that they were happy. Zhierd knew he would find his dragon someday. It just simply wasn't meant to be yet. Though he could still hope that perhaps one of the remaining dragons would chose him.

" . . . . . "
Yulu wasn't too pleased to find that already there was another dragon making snide reamrks Erath, not that she could blame them for calling her lifemate lazy, though it didn't sit that well with her. She ignored it none the less, already used to taunting, and what would those of another matter anyway? It's not like she expected that dragon to have any form of smarts at all anyway, just look at the rider it has chosen.
Yulu was about to think she was the only female to have been chosen when a loud noise made her bring her head away from the focus on feeding Erath and out towards the clutch, noticing that the girl from the kitchen had Impressed as well. Good for her, she hoped she choked and died eventually.
And why yes, Yulu did not like her, and she made no attempts to hide that feeling from Erath who picked up on it as she swallowed her meat.

Cass was still beaming as she plopped down at the feeding table and was supplied with meat to feed her dragonet with. She pulled out her belt knife, which she had had the presence of mind to grab before running to the hatching grounds that morning, and started cutting the cubes into slightly smaller pieces. couldn't have her darling choking!
'Watch out, sleepy wings!' Vesperath chirped as she settled down near to Erath so that she could eat, sidling slightly so she didn't sit on the other green's tail as she eagerly began to eat the portions given to her.
Cass hadn't even realized who she had sat so near to, having simply grabbed the nearest open spot so that she could hurry and alieve her poor dragonets hunger pains. She smiled at a passing kitchen worker who stopped and cooed over her adorable little green, making Vesperath preen just a little even as she took another gobbet of meat from her bonded's hand. She certainly loved the attention, though food still held most of hers. Cass looked around as she grabbed another handful to cut up for her dragon when her eyes landed on Yulu, surprisingly close by. Cass had no love for the other girl, but she was so happy in that moment, that she was able to say with a genuine smile "Congratulations!" before turning her attention to 'hers' again.

After his initial scramble, Sethal kept up well with Pipith, who made a beeline for the tables - he wanted his meat now, thank you, and he wanted the best, before everyone else ate it. And definitely before Akerth Impressed and came over here! Now feed me, he demanded of his dazed chosen, Lots, and the best pieces! I want them before anyone else gets them.
It's a little late for that, Pip, the young man replied slowly, There are other dragons here already.
That is not my name! the bronze snapped disapprovingly. My name is Pipith, and you will call me nothing else.
Yeah, sure, whatever. Sethal passed the dragon what he thought to be a decent-looking piece of meat, only for it to be refused. He frowned heavily. What's wrong with it?
Pipith cast a quick glance at Vespereth and Hers, then told His, I want Vespereth's. Tell Hers to give you those pieces.
Sethal raised an eyebrow, regarding the dragon incredulously. ...no way, buddy. Just eat, alright?
Pipith's eyes swirled orange, but he took what he was given for now.

Erath looked over as this pair joined her and Hers, suddenly very aware of the feeling that overcame the young woman standing at the table. She was almost hostile towards this newcomer, to the point where Erath felt a little unsettled so fresh from her egg, but as soon as that feeling had come it was gone, replaced by a blank slate.
Yulu?
There was no response as Yulu slowly moved closer to Cass, her hands looking over the different cuts of meat to feed to her new lifemate. Her eyes were good at gudging the cuts based on the muscle structure, the Healer in her knowing what would be tough to tear apart, and she positioned herself right at a spot where her timing wouldn't have to be perfect, but it had to be good.
She took a piece of meat that looked the hardest to cut and pull, her hands on it instead of just the knife, and slowly she started to tug before she decided to respond to what Cass had said.
"Oh, Cass? The same to you."
Yulu waited for the girl to turn in her direction to most likely acknowledge the compliment, and the moment Cass's face was in view Yulu gave a strong tug at the meat, the tendons holding strong before they ripped and forced her arm heavily backwards. She was standing close enough to Cass that her elbow came in contact with her face, and almost instantly Yulu masked her feelings of joy with an expression of pure shock and horror.
"Faranth! I didn't think that piece would give that easily if I pulled on it! Are you okay?!"
. . . you did that on purpose.

Unaware of the drama at the tables where the newly hatched dragons were being fed, things seemed well and good, to Lelia. Of course, that brown still had to hatch, and there was the blue and the gold egg yet to hatch but...they were allowed to take their time. It was a lot of work to break out of an egg, after all, they might need time to gather their strength, and Lelia contented herself to wait for them, and see what happened, and who they impressed.
Things were good, and she was...happy? People were impressing, dragonets were choosing their partners, and only minimal harm had come to anyone, aside fomr the one girl, who now looked like she would do just fine. This was the way things were supposed to go and it was right. Was it too much to hope there was still a dragon for her? No. It was always good to hope, but not to get one's hopes up. There was a difference, after all, but at this point, Lelia wasn't sure she could have one without the other.

Marcillus had entered the Sands with the others when the alarm rose and had nervously stood with the other Candidates, watching as the eggs began to hatch. They were such striking dragons! And the scuffle between some of the others? It was unlike anything she'd seen before and her level of excitement rose as the dragonets began to choose Theirs.
The sands were hot but not unbearable and Marci found herself happy for those that had gained life partners. This... this was something special, she knew and to be witness? Even if she wasn't playing an active part in the event, she felt honoured. She'd had doubts before, after her encounter with Yulu, but she'd worked through it and thought this had been a good idea.

The sands had grown quiet with only two eggs remaining unhatched; one of them the golden egg everyone was looking to, and the other minute in comparison - on its side and well away from the large, gold egg.
Then there was the brown. He was still there, waiting and watching. There had not been a flinch from him when the green had left with Hers, and he had left her alone and all the others he had pestered.
Now, he walked away from the clutch of eggs and in-between the two lines of candidates.
His voice was strong as he announced to His only, Tarusen! I am tired of this dallying. It is time for me to eat. Come get Your Akerth.

As the brown left with His, it seemed to be in the nick of time. The splotlight finally taken from others on the sands, the Golden Stag Egg began to move, slow and strong. All eyes were no doubt on it now. It was time for the female candidates of Telgar Weyr to really hold their breath.
((This is our stopping point for the night.))

Tofir watched the green go to the tables where meat was laid out for the dragonets to be fed, and his gaze followed her to Yulu. Yulu had definitely Impressed, then. That pleased him a great deal, even if it was to the dragon Yulu had not wanted. Too lazy, she had said of it. Laziness had been a good evaluation, it seemed, but she had made herself walk over to the tables after Yulu. Maybe there was hope?
He sidled toward the tables, making an effort to avoid the critical gaze of the healer in charge. He was also watching the sands, but he was trying to keep an eye on Yulu and her dragonet at the same time. He glanced over at Yulu just in time to see her elbow connect with another girl's face as she tore a piece of meat. He sighed and closed his eyes. He was almost certain that hadn't been an accident. Great.
Well, he couldn't fight her battles for her. She was a dragonrider now. She'd have to deal with what came from this on her own. He had a job to do, as he was reminded by the sound of another healer snapping his fingers sharply. Tofir hated when people did that. Treat him like he was some sort of trained canine. He was almost tempted to ignore them out of spite, but he knew that was childish, and so he just sighed and returned to the other healers.
As he did, the brown Impressed to a young man he didn't recognize. He glanced away and turned to look at the last two eggs, the queen and the one which had yet to hatch. Maybe it wouldn't? He hoped that wouldn't be the case. At least the queen egg seemed to be hatching now.

Lelia was relieved when the beautiful brown impressed. Beautiful and strong willed. He would be an asset to Telgar in the future, she was sure, if his rider could keep him in check. She glanced to the stands, to the feeding tables, to Kaveth, and then to the golden stag egg, which was now beginning to move. Wasn't that nerve-wracking? Why, she would be lying to say she wasn't anxious, but it was foolish to think she was the only girl here who had eyes for that egg. No matter what, she had to keep her cool, and she kept her breathing slow and steady, squaring her shoulders and holding her head high. She couldn't falter now; she wouldn't. This was too important.
