The mention of his hair caused a small laugh to escape from his lips. "To be quite honest, Miss Fallon, my hair is a family trait of the Wickham line. My father also has the same color as mine."
He turned to the girl and took a careful look over her. The blonde girl was indeed a new face. "I have not had the pleasure of encountering your companion before, Miss Fallon." Of his own accord, he walked over and swept up Calintha's hand within his own. He smiled to the blonde girl. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Calintha." Before she could argue against it, he dipped his head downwards to place an ever gentle kiss upon her hand. Nothing that lasted too long, it was a strictly polite gesture if anything.
He let the hand go before returning his attentions to the redhead. "I would be delighted to join your table for a bit. I must insist upon a dance with each of you. As a 'thank you.'" With the invitation in the air, he went to an empty seat, sliding it out and sitting down without a sound. His lips remained curled in a pleasant smile as he glanced to each person sitting around the table. He might not have known most of them, but he still seemed to fit in rather nicely.

Jada blushed slightly as Howl and Calintha both complimented her. "Well, thank you both very much. I just hope everyone is enjoying themselves. Parties like this are a little more impersonal than I am used to hosting, so I was quite concerned."
She saw the way Fallon's eyes kept going to the fondue pot and moved her hand on the table to touch lightly on her friend's leg. Her head tilted, just a bit when the other girl looked at her. What's wrong? she tried to convey. Still, she didn't expect the other girl to tell her immediately.
"So Mister Howl, Miss Calintha, where do the two of you attend school?" She was unaware of their last names, so she had no choice but to be so personal. Somehow, however, she didn't feel they would mind. They seemed friendly enough. Delicately she skewered a piece of Filet Mignon and set it on the grill, along with a piece of chicken.

It wasn't incredibly apparent on her face due to her tanned skin, but when Howl kissed her hand Calintha blushed. Hard. She hadn't ever met someone so extremely cordial before, and certainly hadn't ever had someone kiss her hands (though, this may have been because her hands were covered in dirt 80% of the time). "Pleased to meet you." She responded as politely as she could.
Calintha did balk a little bit at the mention of a dance. She'd never really danced in a formal situation before, other than a few family weddings when she was younger. Sure, she could probably pull it off, but it still made her a little uncomfortable at the thought. Taking what seemed to be eggplant, she dropped it on the fryer along with another piece of chicken and a slice of beef. "I attend Meadowview. What about you?" She may have not been as formal as the others at the table, but she was trying her hardest.

Fallon tried to picture an army of polite, teal-haired men sitting in a big white room sipping lightly at the edge of a glass of champagne and drawing looping letters with ornate quills. That must be what Howl's family reunions were like, she reasoned. "I would love to dance, yes," she said. "Have a seat with us. We're just getting settled to eat."
Fallon appeared to be planning something with her food, but it wasn't clear what. She reached toward the plate, slid out a circle of cheesecloth from under a few cubes, and then placed it in the center of her plate. She scooped up two shrimp at laid them on the cloth, and then used her tiny fondue spear to cut a mini-onion into four chunks, which also got added to the mixture. When Jada touched her leg, Fallon turned to her and gave her an everything's fine, just thinking smile.
A few more veggies made it into the bundle and a tiny piece of filet too. She wrapped all of it up into a dumpling-like pouch, hooked the knotted seal over her skewer, and then balanced in on the edge of her personal oil pot so that it dangled close to the sizzling surface without actually submerging. And then she sat up and smiled.
Food was fun.

For a brief moment, the young man's mind went into overdrive based off a simple question. Had he been under normal circumstances he would have politely insisted that he be called Mr. Wickham, his last name. Yet, the hostess wanted to know which school he went to.
Howl was not a fan of confessing he went to Hillworth. Normally, he could avoid the subject completely by avoiding the subject of schools, but this direct question would not allow for such. His lips remained much like a mask, keeping a steady smile upon his lips, but mentally he began to pace back and forth. Would there be an opportunity to avoid the subject and focus in another person's comment? Or would he have to offer a white lie. He could technically call what he was doing as "home schooling," since he lived at Hillworth, but even that felt really wrong in this situation. Too broad a lie, too broad a technicality.
As Miss Fallon tended to her current project, he suddenly felt that he might have found an out to the scenario that had recently presented itself to him. The only part of him that cringed was the part that insisted on manners in every situation. It might have come across as if he was ignoring the hostess, but at this point, something had to suffer.
"Miss Fallon, might I ask what you are doing? Whatever it is, it looks rather intriguing."
Hopefully he had done this smoothly enough that an issue was not made out of it. Miss Calintha did just ask the hostess about which school she went to.

Jada raised a perfectly sculpted eye at the teal-haired man apparently ignoring her inquiry. Well, even if his manners were lacking in not even making a vague comment to make it known he did hear but would prefer not to answer, her manners were in line when she turned her attention to Calintha. "Meadowview, how interesting. I hear your team is doing quite well in some of those... sporty tournaments, isn't that so?"
She watched Fallon with vague interest. Actually, that could be quite delicious, steamed meats and vegetables all together. It piqued her, just a hair, that the boy had chosen to so disregard her simple question. She flipped the steak and chicken so as to evenly brown the other side.

Calintha figured that Howl was hiding something as soon as he purposefully avoided Jada's question. It couldn't have really been anything else but deflection, considering that he was so polite on every other matter. And for Calintha, that pointed to one of two answers; either he had dropped out of school, or he attended Hillworth. Given the bad reputation of both, she wasn't sure which was more likely.
"Oh... I wouldn't know much about the sports at Meadowview. I only attend there because I have to. Otherwise, most of my time is spent gardening." Her little montage flat-greenhouse wasn't really a garden, but it was the closest she got.
She was also interested by what Fallon was attempting with the pouch of edibles, but it became fairly apparent when she started steaming it. "That looks delicious Fallon. I must say I'm certainly jealous of your cooking innovations." Taking her pieces of suddenly blander looking food out of the fryer, she let them cool on her plate for a while before cutting them into pieces she could eat.

Fallon enjoyed the attention her little culinary exploit was getting. "Oh, it's nothing," she said, gently adjusting the skewer. Her mind was reeling, already searching for ways to improve her little makeshift steamer. My God, fondue was so fun! It was like some kind of cooking challenge! The teenager made a note to grab a menu and figure out their hours of operation before she left. She'd most definitely be coming back here soon.
Being a stickler for politeness (though she was not nearly as formal as Howl by a long shot), Fallon, too, noticed the omission of his school, but said nothing. She wasn't going to pry into his life; she wouldn't want him to pry into hers. "Just a little trick," she said to Howl. "I wonder if the heat off the oil will be hot enough to cook the shrimp all the way through..." She didn't want to take it off the heat too soon, but Fallon leaned in, trying to see if the shrimp had turned pink yet.
Fallon wanted to avoid any tension so she latched on to Calintha. "Calintha is a really great gardener," she said, flashing the girl a smile. "If you teach me to keep plants like you do, then I'll teach you some cooking techniques." The offer was genuine. Fallon liked to be around other students from Barren Pines, if only to remind herself that she was not alone in that experience.
Her eyes moved to the clock on the wall. It was getting later, and she intended to go home soon. Of course, she'd need to have a dance first...

It might have seemed odd that Howl was not cooking anything for himself. Aside from the fact he ate before he left from Hillworth, he also had a delicate stomach, and thus far the only thing that seemed remotely edible was the little batch of steamed foods Miss Fallon was cooking. When she answered his question, he simply nodded. It would seem as if Miss Fallon was some sort of chef or cook. A very knowledgeable cook, if anything.
If his ears had been those of a cat, they would have perked up at the mention of Miss Calintha's interests. His eyes most certainly seemed to light up at the mention of her hobby, and soon enough his attention was on the blonde girl.
"I am rather fond of gardening as well, Miss Calintha. Unfortunately, since I moved to this city, I have been unable to find myself a place to work with plants. Might I ask what sorts of plants you tend to?" Not everyone tended to flowering plants like himself, and he knew such. Some people did gardening for the extra fruits and vegetables. Some people did gardening for herbal applications. Regardless, now the blonde girl from Meadowview High School had his full attention.

Calintha felt a little overwhelmed as the conversation turned to focus solely on her. Though, she was overjoyed when she heard that she had the opportunity to actually learn how to cook, instead of cooking mac'n'cheese or throwing ingredients together like a 5 year old. Living on her own was hard, and finding things to cook that she could actually attempt without feeling overwhelmed was just as hard. "I would love that Fallon." Her smiled was genuine and excited, the blonde really hoped she wasn't being sarcastic.
"Yea, the city is difficult for plants. Since I..uh...lost my greenhouse, I've converted my apartment into one." Her words were always getting ahead of her, particularly about Barren Pines. And that was something she did NOT want to get into. Cutting into her meats and veggies she answered his other question. "I tend to mostly exotic plants. Though I specialize in carnivorous varieties." It was slightly vague, but she didn't want to geek out on everyone with anything more specific than that. If they wanted to know more, they would ask. Calintha took a few bites and savored the taste of her food.

It was 10:15.
Only 45 minutes left of the gathering. Staff started moving between the tables, taking food and plates away from those who were finished and replacing it with individual bowls of warm chocolate; white, milk and dark chocolate were the options. A small plate with cheesecake, fresh strawberries, pound cake and various other treats were placed near each person.

Damian didn't really notice the place filling up, he was too busy trying to remember what his step-mother had told him about fondue. Something about melted cheese, and bread on a stick? He couldn't quite remember.
He looked down at Alessa as they made their way to a table, flashing her a grin. "Yep, fondue. I'll let you in on a secret, I've never tried it either." He was leaning down a bit, whispering back to her, like they were sharing a big secret. "But, I'm pretty sure I know the gist of it, I'll help you out, promise." His smile grew and when they reached the table he pulled out her chair for her. While he was under dressed, it seemed his manners were appropriate enough. After Alessa sat he sat down next to her, instead of across from, so he could try and explain the fondue.
Picking up a stick he twirled it in his fingers before spearing a bit of steak. Leaning over, he draped his free arm across the back of the brunette's chair. "So, what I gather is we put the food on a stick, and then you can dip it in the batter, and then fry it in the oil." What was all this? Vegetables, seafood, his step-mom had only explained about fruits and melted cheeses, not all this. Now the poor kid was stuck totally winging it, fondue wasn't one of the many hobbies he had picked up then tossed aside. It wasn't interesting enough to hold his interest.

Fallon kept quiet while she worked, adjusting the little bag every so often. After a few minutes, she moved it to her plate to let it cool and finish steaming. She glanced up to Calintha. "Really? Because I have Wednesday nights free. Maybe I could come by this week? I'd love to see your place." Fallon hadn't been too close with Calintha at Barren Pines, but since the incident, she felt a connection to each of them. She wanted to talk to Cali about it, and meeting up later at her apartment was just as good of an excuse as any. * * * * * Time wore on, Fallon took a few spins on the dance floor, and the table was set with sweets. Her eyes returned to the clock on the wall. She wanted to stay, but she wanted to reorganize her yarns before it got too late. Fallon passed through the room, saying her goodbyes, saving Jada for last. "This was so wonderful," she said, giving the girl a stiff hug. "You did an excellent job hosting. See you at the stables?" With that, Fallon grabbed her coat, slipped out into the cold, and hailed a cab back to Crystal Academy. (( Sorry for the time jump. I wanted to give Fallon a post out, and my computer has been weird lately. Hope it's okay! ))

During the supper, she let herself be guided by the boy who admittedly didn’t do much better than she did. “So, we fry it this way? Small pieces like that? How... how long?” The first tries ended up with undercooked or fried-beyond-repair meat. Fortunately, the both of them perfected their fondue skills over the course of the evening.
By the time dessert arrived, they hadn’t made too much of a mess. Damian’s attempts to get closer didn’t go unnoticed not rejected, either. “That was a fun - but sophisticated, she added with almost a whisper – way to cook a whole meal! How did you find it?” Before she got an answer, her hands were approaching the cheesecake with gluttony. That wasn’t too sophisticated for her. “Do you want some too?” she asked, with a smile brighter than usual. She felt more at ease after a few hours spent with him.

The evening was full of a lot of laughter and grins, neither of them were very good with the fondue. They could have asked for help from the waiters nearby, but it was more fun to go trial and error with her. During the course of the meal, he brushed his fingers across her hand, and leaned closer to her, taking opportunities to whisper in her ear, or gently bump her knee with his own. It seemed things were going good so far.
At her words he grinned, leaning forwards, about to whisper back, but then she offered him cheesecake. The boy laughed, pulling back a bit. "Sure, I love cheesecake. And a guy's gotta have some secrets." He winked, responding to her earlier question. Damian glanced at the bowls of chocolate sauces, unsure of which one he wanted with his cheesecake. He was glad he found the flier for the party, he was having a good time so far. He might even get a number out of it. Spearing a piece of cheesecake he dipped it into the milk chocolate, twirling it a couple times to keep it from dripping, before he offered it to her, one hand cupped underneath it to catch any drips that the twirling didn't catch. "Ladies first," He smiled at her. Yes, he was being forwards, attempting to feed her, but that was the kind of guy he was. The forward type.
