"I'm sorry." Kiba said quietly, putting his hand down. "You remind me of my brother, you know? It's actually a joke that my family plays on others. Sorry if what I said earlier didn't make any sense." He said with a small smile, as if trying to lighten the pretty dark and gloomy atmosphere.

Nozomi was still blushing through, it was apparent on his pale flesh. "Embarrassed?" Kiba smirked slightly, a small smile playing on his face. "Don't be, it was just a joke. Just take it was a joke."

After the warmth in his cheeks cooled down, Nozomi began to write on his notepad again. Oh, okay... Just don't do that again. Those words looked reluctant to him, and he knew that he didn't exactly want to write them. Hopefully, Kiba wouldn't know the difference between regular writing and reluctant.

Nozomi had never been one to take jokes very lightly. A lot of times, he took them very serioiusly even if he knew they were just jokes. It was just a problem he had with those kinds of things, especially since many were plain mean.

Kiba watched carefully as Nozomi wrote down his sentence slowly, slower than ever. Reticence? Interesting. "Still embarrassed? It's okay if you write at your normal speed and it's messy, I can read doctor writing." Kiba used the word for super messy penmanship that he had learned when his 'owner' had taken him to Hawai'i one time.

" 'Eh brah, you get girl-writing? Or Docta' writing?" One of the boys had asked him.
"What's girl-writing?" Kiba had asked. One of the girls came over and showed him her extremely careful and neat penmanship. Before Kiba could even reply, one of the other boy's pulled out a prescription paper for pain medication.
"That's Docta' Writin', ya know?" The boy had smirked. The writing was almost illegible, but Kiba could read it slightly.

Doctor writing? What was that? Nozomi wrote, curious and momentarily forgetting about his utter embarrassment. Actually, what had happened before now didn't seem to matter anymore, which meant he had reached the end of a fast recovery. His attention was all suddenly focused on wanting to know what that doctor writing was.

Nozomi stopped writing almost as quickly as he had begun, now considering Kiba's earlier words. Messy? Was that what doctor writing could be? Unsure, he decided to just look through the previous pages of the notepad to see if any other sentences had been messy. Sure enough, a lot of them actually were.

"Doctor writing is incredibly messy handwriting." Kiba explained, trying not to laugh a little at the irony of the situation. This kid lived in a hospital and didn't know what doctor writing was? Pathetic, but he would never say that aloud.

"Are you still embarrassed?" Kiba asked, pulling the trays closer to the bed. The food was still warm. Soup in the styrofoam coffee cups and sandwiches. That was about the best thing he could afford.

I'm still a little embarrassed, but I should get over it, Nozomi wrote in reply. As long as you don't play that joke on me again, then I'll be fine. He smiled shyly as if to emphasize his point, but he knew there was no need to.

It was then that he had the feeling that Kiba might be mocking him or something. The volunteer didn't exactly show it, but sometimes people can mentally mock someone else. The past volunteers had attempted to keep the mocking to themselves, but they eventually just let it out as if Nozomi was stupid and didn't know what was going on.

Kiba smiled kindly and nodded his head. He wasn't going to do that anymore, really. Kissing somebody he had just met wasn't very high on his list of things he wanted to do in his life. Maybe later, once he had known Nozomi longer. If he were allowed to know Nozomi longer. Many of the other volunteers kept on telling him that Nozomi got a new volunteer almost every other day. Maybe the hospital staff would have him removed and replaced with somebody else?

"Well, are you hungry? You should eat." Kiba sighed, getting up slowly from his knees and easing himself into a chair on the other side of the tray. "Choose whichever one you want, they're both the same." he motioned towards the food, a small smile set on his lips.

Nozomi took one of the cups and a sandwich, almost immediately digging in. He wished he could say 'Itadakimasu' like Mother would, but he couldn't due to lack of voice. The closest he could get to saying the word would be to mouth it, which was exactly what he did.

The food tasted okay, much better than the usual. It was strange that, after sitting in a bed for days and days on end, he had yet to gain any weight. It was funny and almost impossible to think of such a thing. It wasn't much of a surprise to Nozomi, but he was the one sitting in a bed all day while many others could walk around whenever they wanted to.

Dustynn smiled slightly, walking over to the window as he did so. His phone began to vibrate in his pocket, and he swiftly pulled it out, not recognizing the number. "Excuse me for a minute." The young man smiled, walking out of the room to take the call. "Kyuuketsuki."

The phone call was far from pleasant. It was the two men from earlier trying to get in touch with him. Sadly, it was they who bought him the phone. Kiba just listened quietly as they called him almost every single swear-word imaginable and began yelling at him to leave the hospital and go outside where they could take him back to where they lived. In their dreams. Kiba hung up and went back inside the room.

"Sorry 'bout that. I didn't lock my door properly when we left for the park earlier. My neighbor just called." Kiba smiled quietly, trying to put his own worries aside, as well as quell any that Nozomi might have. But his smile seemed wrong, it felt wrong. It felt forced.

Nozomi swore that he had heard something rather angry coming from Kiba's phone. Not wanting to intrude on whatever matters he had to face at that moment, the mute boy just wrote nothing. As Kiba had implied, the phone call probably was nothing. Maybe the person who called was just an angry neighbor.

He tried not to pay any attention to the forcefulness of the smile Kiba was giving him. He was sure that the volunteer was aware of the smile being forced as well. So many questions filled Nozomi's head that he would have wanted to write down, but he kept his trembling hand from moving toward the pen.

Kiba's smile disappeared as he took note of the other boy's appearance. Always calculating was the only word that his mother had used to describe him. The boy's hand was trembling, literally inching towards the pen. His eyes had that questionable look in them. And his face. Oh Jesus, his face was literally screaming at him to spill answers. But the boy made no move to ask, no move to write.

"It looks like you're going to explode. Just ask away already, I have nothing to hide." Kiba said quietly, sitting down in a chair and picking up a small cup of soup. He said nothing as he popped the lid off and began to take small sips from it.

Nozomi shook his head. He didn't want to risk asking a question that would hurt Kiba in any way. It would just be a regrettable question that may come back to bite Nozomi at one point, probably very soon after he asked. He had always feared hurting someone else, so he never tried to. If he did, he would panic and almost nothing can make him calm down. In fact, he would only be able to calm down if Mother told him that it wasn't his fault.

Unfortunately, Mother wasn't here anymore. Maybe she would appear in Nozomi's dreams, always telling him that everything would be okay, that she was still with him, but he could never truly be calm. It was like he felt that he had no will to live anymore, but he was still alive.

"Nozomi, I really don't mind. Trust me, I have nerves of steel. You're going to have to stab me in order to get me to flinch." Kiba laughed quietly, closing the now empty cup and setting it back on the tray. "Not that I'd really allow you to stab me. I'd prefer you'd just keep the weaponry to yourself." The young man muttered under his breath, picking up the sandwich delicately between two fingers before removing the crust.

Deciding to just go along, Nozomi finally picked up the pen and wrote the thought down. You seemed really troubled, so I wanted to know why. This was the first time he was worried about a hospital volunteer, but then again Kiba was the first person besides Mother who was nice to him.

Kiba's eyes widened slightly. Not exactly a flinch... but that could possibly equal a poke. "Well... those people from earlier are outside waiting for me. But I can't go with them." Kiba sighed, finally removing the rest of the crust from the bread. He opened the window next to him and dropped it outside. A loud yelp was heard from the ground below, a very familiar yelp that Kiba knew all too well. "And that would be them." He said quietly, closing the window as he said so.
