I loved the book. Farmer made marvelous use of parallelism. And while the intense emotional appeal of the first half of the book is amazing, I absolutely loved the anti-socialist argument for individualism during the second half.

I personally despise socialism, and although dictatorship is far from being the best alternative to socialism, Farmer shows how dictatorships can be better than socialism and that many of the evils associated with dictatorships are also inherent in a socialist society.

That's when I liked matt the best, when he was contradicting them, i jsut wish teh others had done it soooner! but i guess soemtimes u jsut need fresh eyes to see some pretty plain things... yea i wantto discuss it more, but i had to go earlier, and now i have to get soem sleep. but theres more i want to say! so stay tuned! and i am very curious to more of your opnions consus.

This book, I thought, was extreemly well writen....I kinda liked the voice it was told in. You know, from a 3rd person, but still matt's point of view and stuff. I also loved how Matt wasn't all good all the time...it really showed how love can change a child.....how he emulated his original, but through the guidance and love of Selea and Tam Lin, he learned what was right and wrong, and he learned something El Patron didn't learn, which is compasion for others.
I remember the first time I read the book, I was so blazing mad at Tam Lin for drinking the poison and not staying with Matt and his mother (I just knew there was something going on between him and Selea!) I cryed punched my mattress. It's amazing how much emotion Farmer can envoke. eek
