A strong gale spun around everyone, intriguing Charles. "Hmm, delightfully cunning... Using wind to keep away the enemy..." He pondered a bit, and thought about attack opportunities. The sun was still bright, and he was close enough to aim it well, so he said the hell with it.

He got close to the edge of the maelstrom and started to do his thing. The light bended on the selected bandits, and they combusted, flailed, screamed, and rolled around, looking very silly. They soon found out the sand was just as hot as the flames, and jumped back up, still screaming with a face much like this.

After a while, they fell to the ground, either dying or going into shock.

So, he selected more targets, seeing that there was a vast plethora of them, they were easy pickings. "Pardon me..." the light centered on one point, becoming very intense on one bandit's forehead, and moving down quickly to slice him in half with extreme light exposure. He didn't have time to scream. Another was downed from neck burns, and another from the same thing, only on a different part of his neck.

As the bandits began to surround the company, they were shocked, when a wind barrier suddenly erected itself. It was much too powerful to break through. Ali watched from fort gate, and smirked. "Very clever..." Of course, Ali wasn't as stupid as the other bandits. He knew that a wind force of that power would soon suck all the air out of the center. But, they were still able to attack, seeing as the intruders apparently had a light magic user. Even more than that, they still had a huge tornado that was turning into a small sandstorm. At first, Ali was going to order the mages to unleash fire attacks, but realized that fire might play to the enemy's advantage. Instead, he ordered the bandits to move away from the whirling wind. With all the sand, the intruders couldn't see the bandits anymore, just as the bandits couldn't see the intruders, causing the light magic attacks to become far less accurate, now.

The wind attack could either be released with full power in one direction, or with distributed power, all around, to get the most desired results. This would mean that either all the bandits got pushed back momentarily, or some would get killed in one section, and the rest of the bandits would fill in that hole. However, Ali did not know the true power of this magic. When the spell was unleashed, it flew out to the entire front, knocking back, slicing, and killing a great deal of the surrounding bandits who hadn't gotten far enough back. The rest of the bandits went to quickly fill in the hole, but the intruders' retribution was swift. Arrows, magic, and swords soon flung out attacks on the bandits.

Things seemed more even-sided now, but the bandits were still greater in number. With the wind gone, the remaining archers began to attack from the fort walls, and the mages launched fire, mainly toward the light magic user, thinking that their anima could best the light. In fact, Ali didn't even move from where he stood. From what he was seeing, the intruders had indeed sent out a powerful and surprising attack, to help their odds, but it looked like they were out of moves. The help that had come to them was not enough to take on an entire bandit group. Was this all the help they could conjure up? Things would be finished, soon.

They could not be seen by the bandits, but they could see the bandits perfectly fine. Among the group was a dark-skinned woman, who seemed more than a little frustrated. "Looks like we found deh others..." As she looked, she saw what appeared to be a sand tornado, and then saw it launch, revealing the figures who had been hiding within. Among them, a red-haired figured could be seen. "Damn dat boy, he ran right in, and now he's trapped wit em'." She looked around a little more, and saw that the bandits still had the upper hand, and were closing in to kill. After getting an idea of what the situation looked like, Deborah turned to the others with her.

"Dis group is one of deh smaller groups, but has been growing in powah, evah since dey got a new leadah. From what I hear, he's one of deh lowest, most disgusting filth in existence. Dey were on dere way to becomin' one o dah largeh groups... until dey messed wit us." Deborah gripped Graver. "Come, deh east side will allow us tah move unseen." She led them around, hing amongst the dunes, until they reached the east side of the fort. With all the fighting, nobody would notice them, and all the archers seemed to be on the western side.

As they came up close, Deborah could see a familiar face at the fort's entrance, and grumbled a little. If that man intended to interfere, it would be at his own peril. Deborah whispered to her companions. "Okay, les go save dere sorry butts, and get outta here! ...I don't wanna hear no lectahs from dat woman about leavin' Pentheus."

As the bandits continued to attack, figures shot out from the east side of their fort; a lizard man, a younger looking one, a male lancer, and an ebony woman. The four on them rushed and ambushed the bandits from the side, and began to create a hole in their formation. The bandits were slow, and didn't know what was going on, causing their time to counter this new surprise to be refuted. Music began to fill the air, and the attributes of many increased. Soon enough, a big hole was made, and a clear path between the two allied groups appeared. They would be in a much better position with not being surrounded on all sides. And to top it off, the bandit numbers were spiraling. Surely the bandits would not let up, but they would learn soon enough not to mess with FEF.

The reptilian bard sighed as he whipped the bow across the strings of his violin. Those few bandits who recognized the true potential for a single bard to turn the tide of a battle came at him quickly, but the blades of sound he fired felled them as he concentrated on empowering the two closer members of the rescue party.

"What'll ye do if the kettle boils over?
What'll I do, only fill it again,
And what'll ye do if the cow eats the clover?
What'll I do, only set it again.

The preaties are dug and the frost is all over,
Kitty lie over close to the wall!
How would you like to be married to a soldier,
Kitty lie over close to the wall!"

And so it was that once again, Charice found herself with a magician riding as a passenger, casting Flux spells this way and that at whoever took her fancy. In theory, this was very nice for Charice; although a bit rusty at riding with a passenger, she still knew enough to move not so quickly and mostly just let the Flux do the talking.

"Waugh! For the last time, don't hold on to me! I don't need your help when I'm casting! I'm a noble! I can handle myself!"

...In practice, she still had some nice magic, but unlike Katherine, she was a royal pain in the butt. Oh, well. At least they'd saved her, assuming Charice and Aph survived this. Their odds looked good, at least--most of the bandits couldn't reach them, and the ones that could seemed focused elsewhere.

1 2 out of town, 3 4 back into the desert, 4 5 attack team go. All that in a mere matter of minutes. It took them a few minutes...possibly hours..? Ephraim lost count, but somehow they managed to catch up to Roy and his obnoxious pride of wanting to handle things on his own. Didn't the boy know by now that there were others that were here to help? Honestly now, the young lord probably forgot.

Never the less, they were here to help. Things were about to get rough once more and from the small glimpse the lancer could see, a majority of the team were tired out. That's understandable..considering they've been sitting out in the desert for a good hour or so. Lets get this over with..shall we? "This won't be easy" Ephraim pondered, eyeing his surroundings.

Get it over with, now. The first move was made by the lancer made the first move toward a swordmaster that was heading their way. How did this runt even make it into bandits? Surely he could do so much better. The spear flew from his shoulder to the tip of his fingers, in a matter of seconds was the spear dripping in blood. He turned, leaving the swordsman on the ground, not quite dead but bleeding heavily.

((.....Bah))

"Oh, that was not predictable, using an opposing magic... Bah, I will strike those chaps." There were 4 fireballs heading towards him, but with the wind barrier still up, they would diffuse on it. Still, Charles didn't want to cause Akihi more stress, so he used his old trick. 4 streaks of light beamed against the fireballs, and they stopped in place to fall on the ground like a napalm.

More bandits were going down, but it seemed like they were endless. If he could see where the mages and archers were, he could have taken them down, but his sight isn't that great.

It had been merely a matter of time before they overcame their intruders. It had started as a simple chasing of one boy who had escaped them, then turned into one simple raid, then into a fight to defend themselves from annihilation. These people had been an enormous plague to the bandit group, killing many of the lowlifes. But things had finally turned around in the bandit's favor. The intruders were outnumbered, tired, and soon would be taken care of for good. They were going to pay.

However, something had come out of nowhere and was causing quite the commotion. Bandits started to fall to the ground left and right, and at first, the cause could not be found. Looking out in confusion at the sudden chaos, Ali was able to spot a few new faces on the eastern side of the battle. Looking closer, he saw a woman he despised so very much, and he now understood who these newcomers were. His ear caught the sound of music, and frost suddenly began to appear on the sand! There couldn't have been more than three of four of them, and yet his men were being taken out most swiftly. The wall of brigands had already been broken, allowing the prey to be able to get to safety. This was no good. At this rate, the bandits would surely be done for.

Ali thought quickly, and made a decision he thought would be best. "Quickly! Into the fort!" He saw the group that they were about to finish off start to get to a better location, and rushed forward. He grabbed both arms of a light-haired girl, and held them behind her back with one hand, while he tried to cover her mouth with the other. She put up a little fight, though, and managed to get out a couple screams. From her appearance, she seemed to be a dancer. Feo would be happy to at least have one new addition to his harem, for now.

"Into the fort! Now! If they follow, we'll get em' as they rush in after us!" These were Ali's commands, as he ran into the fort, followed by a majority of the bandits who were outside with him. As the bandits entered, they quickly got into position. A number of them lined up by the entrance, some went to guard the treasure rooms, and a few accompanied Ali, as he made his way quickly up toward Feo.

When he reached Feo, he immediately showed him the girl he had taken. Ali pulled off the scarf she wore from her shoulders, to show more skin, and pushed her to the ground before his leader. He then threw the scarf out, not knowing what it was, and it was picked up by one of Feo's harem, out of admiration. "Feo, sir. These intruders are much more powerful than anticipated. We've taken many losses, and Sajid is dead. Our men have taken refuge in the fort, but they could storm in at any moment."

Feo stood up from his harem, and walked over and stood in front of the girl. He smiled with much delight at her beauty. She was quite a find. However, it appeared there were other things he needed to address, at the moment. "Hm? Ridiculous!" He spat out. "If we are in any predicament, it is because of the weakness of you and these other fools! I did not take command of this group so that you could fail me, and let us be overrun by pesky mice. You WILL put an end to these bothersome maggots, this time. I don't care how, just do it. Sacrifice all the men we have, if that is what it takes. I can always get more, later."

Ali growled at the arrogance of his leader's words. They were simply following the orders that their fat leader had given them! Still, they had managed to regroup, and they could possibly stop the intruders inside their own fort. "...Yes sir." He begrudgingly muttered.

"Good." Feo blurted. "And if they get passed you all and make it to where I am, I cannot guarantee the safety of either them OR you! ...Now go!" He looked down at new girl he had been delivered. "....Leave me to my fun." He grew a most distasteful smile, and licked his lips, a little.

Not wanting to see how things played out in the room, Ali quickly rushed out and spat out some orders to the other bandits, then made his way again to the back to block the pathway to Feo's room. If anybody made it back that far, he would deal with them, personally. This was a new battle now, and this one would determine which of the two forces would live another day.

The wind had been cleared, and the bandits had been forced to retreat. They were safe, for the time being.

Roy took a knee, then looked up at the dark-skinned woman and the others that had come to their aid. He paused for a moment, then looked away.

"Thanks...for coming to help us. If it weren't for you guys, we would have been overwhelmed, even with my assistance." he said.

Yes, he was ashamed of what he had done. First, he had abandoned the group to come try to play the hero and help out those that were left here. In his defense, some of the people out here he couldn't afford to lose. If Alihi wasn't being treated for her injuries, she would have rushed out here to aid her brother. It was exactly his case, but instead of a sibling to protect, it was his mother.

He got back up to his feet. The young lord only had to use the Rune Sword twice to heal himself. The SoS, rapier, and the dark sword were all sheathed. In his hands was a Steel Sword he had picked up from one of the slain swordmen. Why waste his weapons when he could just use the ones his enemies carried? It was also much easier to discard, since he wasn't planning on carrying them for long. After all, there were always better suited weapons some other sword user would carry (He had already cycled between several Iron swords, a few Slim swords, an Iron Blade, and now the steel sword he was carrying).

They were free to head back now. He turned around.

"Mother...we can fin--"

She wasn't there.

"Mother?"

He looked around. Did she get up on her own, and he had merely missed her? Was someone else supporting her? No. She wasn't with them. And then it hit him.

His mother...had been taken...by the bandits.

He had failed to protect the one person he swore to protect until his father returned.

"No..."

This was a total defeat for the young lord. His commands put his comrades at risk. He thought he could hold off the bandits with the small force he had, but in the end had to be rescued by the very people who would have probably waited too long to come out here (his hastiness to help the others was probably the cause of them coming out here). They had failed to defeat all the bandits. And now, his mother had been taken hostage.

He could understand Alihi's pain when her child was taken from her at that party. But his situation was far different than what the female tactician had to deal with. At least Amara had been kidnapped by a woman and not by some butt-ugly, lustful bandits. Ninian was a full-grown woman, and a very beautiful one at that (yes, he did call his mother beautiful. And no, he did not have an Oedipus complex), not to mention that she was an ice dragon. The dancer would not last out here, unless the bandits took good care of her. The chances of that ever happening? Slim to none. Good, gentlemen-like bandits don't exist.

Roy couldn't head home. What was he going to say the next time he saw either of his Uncles without the dancer with him? Oh, sorry...she was kidnapped by a bunch of bandits? His Uncles would never forgive him. And what if his father saw him now? He couldn't bear to even look at the man, let alone say anything to him, if the older lord truly was here in the desert.

Negative emotions began to swarm into the crevices of his heart and mind. Sorrow. He had someone precious taken away from him. Regret. She was right there, right behind him, and she had been taken without his notice. Guilt. He swore he would protect her, and he failed to do so. Fear. He dared not think about what would become of her.

Anguish. One of the worst emotions for a physically, mentally, and emotionally strained dragon (even though he was only a quarter dragon, dragon blood was dragon blood) to have to ever feel.

~Ninian~

Ninian knelt in the sand, doing her best to stay conscious. Her body wanted, demanded sleep, but she could not give in to that desire. Not in the middle of a battle.

But it was not simply that. She knew if she slept, she would never truly get the rest she so needed. Not when the nightmares refused to cease, returning night after endless night.

Strange images kept flashing before her, the desert sand replaced by green forest. Oddly, most of the trees closest to her had been felled by some unseen weapon. Faces kept flashing, appearing and disappearing as quickly as they had come.

What is happening to me?

She knew that her son and the others were fighting the bandits, the dancer herself relatively safe behind them. Not safe enough it would seem.

Dimly, she felt someone take her hand. No, not her hand, her arms. Slowly she realized that they were being tied behind her back. A hand tried to cover her mouth.

"No!!" she screamed, struggling. "Let go of me! mmph--Ro--!" She tried to call out for her son, anyone, but in her weakened state, she was no match for the much stronger bandit. She tried to fight back, but though her fingers clawed at his flesh, though her legs kicked out in protest, it was too late.

"ROY!!" she cried once more, before the bandit won the battle, dragging her back with him towards the fort.

There was nothing she could do, completely helpless. Silently, she berated herself. How could she have been so stupid as to let herself get hurt, to end up like this? And furthermore . . . she knew what bad men did to women, with or without consent.

Like a trophy, she was shown to a man her bandit captor called Feo. Ninian assumed he must be the leader. He looked at her, smiling with obvious delight. While a part of her sat in fear of what this man would do to her, the other part was in an uproar.

They had taken her scarf away from her, cast aside like trash. They had taken Briseschal.

And some girl had dared to pick it up, had dared to touch it.

Ninian barely noticed when her captor left, most likely to do his master's bidding. Feo looked back down at the dancer.
"Leave me to my fun," he had said.

She looked up at him, defiant. Slowly she spoke, her words soft and commanding. "Give me my scarf."

User Image Before Feo could have his little fun, he heard the woman demanded her scarf back. The woman wanted her scarf back? Feo couldn't help but chuckled amusingly.

"My dear woman," Feo smiled lustfully as he tucked the dancer's chin underneath his hand. "A delicate desert flower such as yourself shouldn't worry herself over a raggedy cloth. You should be treated with fine jewelry and royal clothes if one is so beautiful."

He then turned to one of his harem and pointed the royal blue silk cloth among the treasury. "You there, bring that robe to me now." He ordered.

The harem girl jumped a bit from the order and went to retrieve the robe. She then walked toward the leader and presented the cloth to him. There was a bit of fear in the harem's look. Feo took the cloth from the harem and placed it over the dancer's shoulder.

"See? This fine cloth matches you so well than that rag you've brought with you." Feo spoke. His voice sounded husky as he went behind the dancer's back. He was still holding two ends of the cloth in his hands.

"Now then..." Feo smiled with lustful desire. He pulled the cloth back, binding the woman's arms together to her body before tying a knot behind. He then pushed her to the ground. If the dancer was lying on her back, she would see a leery look of the leader as he was hovering over her. "Let's have a little fun right away. I have a feeling these bumbling idiots will interrupt me later on, so we might as well do it now."

~Ninian~

Ninian fought to hold back the bile in her throat that cam at this man's words. She cringed away from his touch, disgusted at the feel of his sticky, sweaty hands on her face. She didn't care if she had to wear rags or was clothed in the finest of silks, so long as he would stay away from her.

Turning, he ordered one of the girls to bring a robe, which, once brought to him, Feo placed on her shoulders.

"See? This fine cloth matches you so well than that rag you've brought with you," he said, his intentions quite clear in the tone of his voice.

Still grasping two ends of the fabric, he bound her arms, tying the cloth tight, and shoving her to the floor. She landed on her stomach, very nearly smashing her head on the floor. She winced in pain at the tightness of the bonds, her ribs aching from her fall.

"Let's have a little fun right away. I have a feeling these bumbling idiots will interrupt me later on, so we might as well do it now."

NO. No, this can't be happening. No!

She struggled to at least sit up. If only Briseschal was still in her pack, she might have been able to reach it and use it against this swine of a man. But no, he just had to take it from her.

"Please," she pleaded, fearful. "Don't do this. Return my scarf, please. If I have that, I can dance for you."

She could not see a way out of this. If only she had learned how to properly use Briseschal . . . if only she was not injured so . . . So many 'if only's, and they were getting her nowhere.

Please, someone, anyone! she thought, her words a silent cry. Please help me!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The bandits were in chaos, and their comrades were fleeing to safety. Deborah and the others could drive back these scum easily, the way things were going. But then she caught the shouts of a familiar voice. It was Ali, commanding the bandits into the fort. This was good, it was pointless for the bandits to continue, in their current state. It was uncommon for bandits to simply give up, after getting enraged, but Ali was obviously smarter than a regular brigand.

As the main host fled back into the their fort, a few bandits remained outside. Whether they just didn't want to follow orders, or if they were covering their companion's backs, it was uncertain. Whichever reason it was, they were still going to fight. One came toward Deborah, and swung his axe loosely. It was easy to parry, and after doing so, the halberdier smoothly slashed the brigand's side. She spun around and blocked another axe, causing the brigand to flinch, giving Deborah the perfect opening for a jab straight through the lowlife's gut.

Deborah looked around and saw that the others had pretty much taken care of all the other stragglers. The rest of their group were resting; breathing heavily from their long struggle to survive. Quick treatment could be given now, before they quickly fled from the fort. However, something was off. Deborah didn't know all the names of the people in their original group, but she could still remember their faces. A few were missing. As she pondered a little more, she remembered seeing the dancer's face among the surrounded ones, but now she was gone. Deborah found the dancer's son and looked upon him. The look on his face said it all. The bandits had captured one of their group members.

"Damn it to hell!" She growled, in frustration. Ali must have had something to do with this. All the others were simply running wildly, not paying attention to what was happening. Deborah turned to where the others had gathered. "Hurry and apply any healin' items ya got. Deh bandits managed tah capchah one of us, and we're not leavin' her behind! Deh probably got some kinda ambush waiting for us, so be prepared." Deborah pointed to the top of the fort walls. "Even deh archers have stopped firin'. Deh clearly waitin' for us tah go inside. But dey'll be in a big surprise, if deh tink we'll be done in by some petty ambush attempt. So get deh treatment ya need, and let's hurry up. ...A dancer in deh hands of dis leader is not promising."

As the rest of the group applied any bandages, or took any vulneraries they needed, they made their way over to the fort entrance. There was no time to check for other entrances, and they were probably locked anyway. After all, the bandits wanted the group to come through this gate. The group was going to walk right into a trap. But that didn't really matter. They had to save a friend, and damned if some ambush was going to stop them.

Deborah made the motion to move, and the group rushed in. The more powerful of the group took the outside, while the backup units stayed in the center. Looking around, Deborah indeed saw that the bandits were awaiting them. Archers were preparing their bows, and bandits were chuckling, thinking that they were going to catch their prey at last. But Deborah simply chuckled back. "Alright, listen up! deh fools spread demselves out real good. Fight deh best ya can, and get rid of any bandit in sight. When we make a pathway, we'll rush through, until we make it tah where dey got our companion! Don't let up, and ya won't die! Go!"

Roy sighed, then closed his eyes. Damn, he was a fool. Wallowing in his own despair, now of all times. His mother was in danger. Regardless of the situation, he would do everything in his power to protect her. He had lost her once already, and was powerless to prevent it. Now she was taken a second time. Was he going to be powerless once again?

No.

He had fallen to his knees when he discovered that his mother was taken. He slowly got back up, eyes hidden behind his messy red hair. The steel sword was still in his hands. The SoS still had a few uses left...three, at best. Rapier had a lot of uses left, and the Runesword was still fresh. With these weapons (and whatever others the swordmen bandits inside carried), he would free his mother.

His eyes were no longer hidden behind his hair. There was a new fire in them, one far fiercer than the usual his eyes had whenever it was time to fight. This had become personal. He had the power to save his mother. He was NOT going to lose her for good a second time.

The chances of a bandit ambush inside were pretty high, according to experience and reasonable tactician logic. If he could counter the ambush with one of his own, then maybe he could do this by himself. Chances were still slim from there, but he would do whatever it took to get the dancer out of there. He had a plan to counter the potential ambush, but it would require Darko, and a traveller's cloak with a hood.

...Or he could just forget about plans and just Leeroy Jenkins his way through. Whatever would get to his mother the fastest.

But one thing was certain, regardless of what happened inside.

There would be no mercy. No amount of bandit blood spilled would appease his anger. This desert will obtain fresh rivers of red. He was ******** PISSED, and that rarely ever happened.

He was thankful of the dark-skinned woman, rallying the others to help him save his mother.

"I have just one request. The boss of the bandits. Leave him to me. I don't want any help fighting him. Not even if I'm losing the fight." he said to the others.

This was personal. If they couldn't understand that much, then Roy had sorely misjudged these people.

His wounds were taken care of, and he was ready to go. His best bet would probably have Darko lead the way with his superior sense of smell to track Ninian's whereabouts.

The tides of battle were not being merciful upon the small group that was fighting in the desert. Who could say that chances of victory would be good with their numbers against the bandits? And yet, Sue and the others had the same feelings: they could not give up, for to surrender was to suffer a fate worse than death.

But that pride she had in battle turned to despair rather quickly, when she'd noticed her General losing his composure. Ninian had been captured, and she hadn't even noticed! How could she even call herself a nomad trooper if she couldn't see a tribeswoman being taken away?

She was about to drop her sword. Sue was feeling like she could no longer keep those oaths she made so many times. She never defended anyone. She never stopped those whom weren't really evil, like the Heroes from dying. How could she face Rath, knowing this happened?

But then she gripped the Silver Sword, choosing not to listen to her reasoning so much. So what if she wasn't perfect, if she was against odds that anyone else would have folded against? It wasn't her place to give up either, or she truly would fail to be a Sacae tribeswoman, one who protected their clan with everything they had. She was tired, but there were reinforcements.

All is not lost.

Even if Roy said the bandit leader was his target, she'd cut open as many of those desert rats as possible! There was to be no mercy, no quarter. They had another FEFer as a captive, and they weren't going to show them any mercy, for sure.

"... let's go..." was all she said, addressing no one in particular, but being one of the first to move into battle. When she did engage in a fight, the anguish she faced turned to frustration, and it showed in the speed she sliced one of the bandits' throats. "One down..."
