Mitsuka came to the conclusion that geisha were meant to be sensitve and take everything to heart. She wondered if she would turn out like that. Mitsuka suddenly thought to speek up.
"Sensei...are geisha ever turly happy? Is it possible for a geisha to live another life if she finds a place or something like that where she can be turly happy? Does she always have to entertain others and not herself?"

kitty-kungfu She took in a breath and exhaled slowly. The subject that she was about to bring, was the very thing she did. "Sensei, what about girls who decided to leave their families for this life of a geisha? Has this phenomon occured only in recent events?" "It is mostly only an occurence of recent times. Geisha have not had the priviledge of a normal life. Hardships befell their families or they were orphaned, in some cases. Whatever the story is, the geisha never chose this life until recently." Nai-Kyo Mitsuka came to the conclusion that geisha were meant to be sensitve and take everything to heart. She wondered if she would turn out like that. Mitsuka suddenly thought to speek up. "Sensei...are geisha ever turly happy? Is it possible for a geisha to live another life if she finds a place or something like that where she can be turly happy? Does she always have to entertain others and not herself?" "There are few geisha that find that life, but yes...it's possible if kami-sama smiles upon you. Also, many geisha find that they are able to pursue a happy end to their lives as the mother to an okiya, because their earnings were so great that the okiya adopted them as the daughter and heir to the okiya itself. So, you see, geisha have their many advantages in earnings later on."

"Thank you for answering my question sensei." Kikaru added, between some of the other maiko's questions. She made notes on the other questions as well. It was hard for her to believe that it wasn't until recently that girls actually choose this life..then again, this kind of life was hard at times.

tehamanda "Sensei... do many girls still become geisha because they have no other choice but to?" "Yes...even I became a geisha because I had no other choice. I was orphaned and an okiya bought me from my grandparents. When I became a maiko, my okiya burned down and this okiya was kind enough to take me in, whilst Kyoku was kind enough to apprentice me. Though my circumstances were harsh at the time, I do not regret becoming a geisha. Once you learn of the culture, why would anyone want to turn back to their old life? After all, the artist begins their adventure once their path is set."

Mitsuka yawned a bit and rested her head on her folded elbows. Everyone asked one question about why a geisha would become geisha and other such things. Things pretty easy for, atleast, her to explain to her self. She shifted her seat and looked blankly ahead.

'Do many women become geisha out of free-will also? Or are nearly every geisha some how 'forced' into doing it?' Yokome asked.

hieiandkurama 'Do many women become geisha out of free-will also? Or are nearly every geisha some how 'forced' into doing it?' Yokome asked. ((OOC: I will speak on this particular question from the year 2006.)) "There are less than 1000 geisha in Japan today, so they have the free will and are allowed to choose the geisha life as they please, but before World War 2, there was little choice, as most of the girls were sold into the life and had no other choice. It would be HIGHLY rare to see a geisha who had chosen her own life in those times."

She glanced over to Yokome, but quickly turned her attention to her notes. She did not think that many had chosen the life like she had done. This life is not made for all, unless there is no other life to chose.

Makoto continued to write down her notes, and read over them. She bit her lip looking back and forth taking in all the information she could.
"Sensei how much does an Okaa-san pay for a maid?"

"There is no set rate to that, Ryoko-chan," Sayuri answered. "Each Okiya is different, as well as the asking price from the scouts themselves."

Makoto nodded and took note of that, before she continued to go over her notes smiling bright in how she was able to grasp a better understanding of the new world around her.
