To bring this conversation back to the subject of ODSTs, I've actually been trying to shift the emphasis away from the shock troops and special forces operators. Part of my reasoning for keeping the ODSTs cooped up aboard the ships for the first half of Harvest was to give everyone a chance to work as Marine regulars for a change. Of course I wasn't expecting the Prayer to get blown up or for Sentinels to show up.

I would have been completely happy with staying aboard the Prayer and trying to have my RPC settle in with the other jumpers. Luckily we were shot down before the dear ship was grounded into mincemeat.
It would be, however, realistic if ODSTs wouldn't get the chance of operating in every operation. I know, I am severing my own RP arm off here, but still.

ODSTs are a last resort, or for special missions, such at the infiltration of Prophet of Regret's ship in Halo3: ODST.
Of course, the mission basically failed when the ship jumped right over the city. Also screwing with the SI's system doing so...
