Sir Valdemar hugged Lin warmly, then motioned for her to take a seat.
"Ah," he smiled, "then you know of course of the success of Prince Aranel and Lord Aldrich's mission. Not without consequence, but at least now our lands are safe."

Lin nodded, "Before the Eastland Dad wanted to go on another hunt..."
She sat down thoughtfully, sometimes she thought about it, when she wasn't doing much else. It wasn't that she liked to dwell on it, but it was another notch under her belt in how different she was becoming for even the average Gaian.
"So... yes I do know. Miyu had a talk with Aragost about it. He's retired now, but is still in Haven thankfully."

Sir Valdemar nodded thoughtfully. "Yes ... I don't believe he will ever leave there, now. I have never seen him create such a bond with any other place before ... or any other people. But it's good for him, he should have done that long ago."
He sat in his own chair and leaned back, smiling warmly at her. "I suppose you've been keeping yourself quite busy, from what I hear."

Lin blushed at that, she never knew because of the time difference what Sir Valdemar had heard or hadn't heard yet. Really with the time that passes she should just assume he knew a lot of what she did.
"Very... especially now that I'm an adult whatever assignments I have left in Gaia are being finished up. Dad is still trying to get use to the idea, for someone who grows gradually three or four years isn't enough time to adjust, but with my new siblings his mind should be occupied for a good while."
She motioned to Senka who was now obviously sleeping, she could hear slight wheezing noises coming from the tiny thing.
"My foxes didn't want to come with me this time, after spending a week in the Eastland they have become not fond of the desert life. I thought I was prepared for the desert but the Eastland makes the Southland look mild in some ways. This is Senka, she's like Wish if you remember her. Only more catty."

Sir Valdemar nodded. "I remember Wish. It was a very long time ago that she was here, but I remember her. Is Senka a kitten, then? She is rather smaller than Wish, as I recall."
He leaned forward a bit to get a better look at the small cat.

If Senka noticed she didn't show it, but Lin had always assumed that Senka was a heavy sleeper. She perhaps twitched a bit before going into a deeper sleep. Maybe she the heat made her sleepy.
"Actually I think she's an adult, though it's hard to tell talking to her though. The winged cats are divided into different races of their own. Wish is angelic and they're the second biggest type to exist, the smallest I'm told are the butterfly and dragonfly types."
She joined Sir Valdemar in Senka watching.
"If they're close enough in size they can also crossbreed despite the wing and supposed type difference. I don't know if you met her when you visited Haven, but there's one named Saki, she's half regular winged and half butterfly I'm told."
One might think that a bit weird, but when you had parents like hers it wasn't so weird when one thought about it.

Sir Valdemar nodded. "Such variations always occur when different breeds come together," he agreed. "The elves are a strong example of this. For millenia, the light elves and dark elves kept themselves separate ... and when they first began to mix, the children would almost always appear to be either one or the other ... but of late, there have been some ... interesting developments, shall we say."
He chuckled softly.

"Interesting is an understatement, Sir Valdemar there are elves who have natural blond highlights while having black hair," Lin pointed out, "Or the other way around..."
She could still remember that one elf with all the blond highlights she knew blond highlights were very popular among her father's people (younger generation though). To get that naturally was unheard of.
"I've never seen such straight blond and black on the same head naturally. For most people back home if they mix they actually mixes into a colour that isn't exactly one parent or the other. It could be a shade off.... or so..."
Like hers, it was black but look at it in certain light or keep her out in the sun and it sometimes had a brown sheen. Lin blinked when she realized not all elves had straight light and straight dark.
"Though... there are two brown hair elves.... Timeaus and his mother.... and they have both the pretties brown skin colour. Like.... coffee lighten with cream," she scratched her cheek thoughtfully, "And then there is that one fighter with hair like fire.... I didn't even think elves could have red hair."
Which reminded her that elf also had freckles... How in the heck do elves get freckles anyways?

Sir Valdemar chuckled. "Yes ... you visited the Eastland," he smiled. "That is where the more interesting variances appear. As for Timaeus and his mother ... they are unique. To my knowledge, I have never seen anything like them before ... and I don't have to remind you how old I am."
He chuckled again.
"On the other hand, I have not yet met this fighter with fiery hair," he added as an afterthought. "Tell me about him?"

"Her," Lin corrected, "And her name is Aerin one of the newer fighters. Her and her friend Caranthir were hired since Elros left for the Eastland. Caranthir has Elros' old room and Aerin has Aragost's, but only because Aragost wanted a room with more sunlight."
She paused and looked thoughtful, she had tried to keep a tight rein on her questions while around the two, not being able to get away with as much as she could as a child. Not that it was hard Aerin wasn't that social and even though Caranthir was, he wasn't as straight forward as first impressions would give.
Timaeus was right... it was a cover for something more serious or so it seemed.
"I don't know much about her, she sort of makes Aragost looks social. I know she has a personal agenda, but no one knows what it is. I also know she hasn't slept in the past several centuries, well not true sleep. Her looks are unusual, not just because her hair is red and wavy, but she has freckles."
She tilted her head as if trying to remember something, which she was. Lin was good at remembering facts but it didn't always mean she understood them.
"Freckles are caused by skin damage from the sun, at least that's how Yukito says people get freckles."

Sir Valdemar blinked at Lin. "Aerin, you say?" he asked, leaning forward and staring at her intently. "Aerin, you're sure of this? Where is she from?"
The look in his eyes said that he knew something about this woman, and that it was something big - but he wouldn't say unless knew that the person they were speaking of was the very same one that he was thinking of.

Lin blinked, now she really had asked more questions, but honestly it would have seemed rude.
"I don't know, I know Triton found them in the Eastland when he went to set up the portal and they came back with him, Shael, Adoni, and Rhea."
She paused and thought about more, there wasn't anything else.
"Aerin is a fire user from my understanding if it helps any, but that's the name she gave. Otherwise the only person who would certainly know is Caranthir and he's not forthcoming neither. Though you can't tell because he's really social... if he sort of acts like a bit of an idiot, but I think that's on purpose. Like he's directing you away..."

Sir Valdemar nodded, still staring at Lin in awe. "You really have no idea," he murmured, "just how many living legends you're fortunate enough to run into when you're here, despite how infrequent your visits are. I had heard, decades ago, that she had picked up a partner ... but no one knew who it was. Well. Now I know."
He chuckled softly. "You are correct, Lin. The way Caranthir acts is indeed a front. I have heard of him also, though not as much as Aerin. And how long have they been with Haven, now?"

Lin had to think about it and even then she wasn't so sure. [i"]The last time I was there four years, but at this point it could be a few more than that."
It was really hard to tell with her going back and forth like this. For all she knew Timaeus could be married by now! He was more than old enough after all.
She looked thoughtfully up at her teacher before asking.
"What do you know about them? They're a mystery even to the other Haven occupants."

Sir Valdemar raised one eyebrow at Lin. "I can almost guarantee," he said softly, "that if you were to ask Prince Elrohir about the dragon-slayer, he would know more about Aerin than she would like. And if he has educated his children with the same knowledge that I passed on to him, they would know it as well. You see," he leaned forward, his voice changing to his lecturing tone, "for a long time, this world was full of dragons ... well, the rest of the world still is, but this land even was full of dragons, so many of them that it was dangerous for even the most skilled of fighters to travel. Where Aerin came from, no one knows, but she has been hunting dragons for several hundred years. Legend has it that that is also why her hair is the color of fire - because she has so often been the victim of dragon-fire. Of course, that is only conjecture," he smiled, "and no one knows for certain. As for the freckles ... I have never heard of an elf with freckles, so your guess is as good as mine."
He paused and leaned back thoughtfully. "I think I would like to meet her," he mused. "So many legends are told about her ... but I have no solid facts that I can put into the history of our land."
