My band camp is 1 week from 8am-6:30pm. It actually starts tomorrow. We're on the field all morning, eat some chick-fil-a in the band room, and then break off into sectionals. After, we have a snack and go back to the field. Every year, there are some pretty crazy stories to be told, and at the end of the week, we have a family and friends dinner to show the parents what we're made of!

Yesterday was the last day of bandcamp. Goofiness aside, we got a fair amount of drill done, and can polay aalmost the entire show.

goofy points of the day:
-During sectionals, mys ection played through everything we were supposed to and even moved on a bit, playing everything well.

So, in order to quell the large amount of boredom, i asked the dm for somethign to do. He said that because we were so ahead of everyone we could take a long, hour water break. We just had to do runthroughs the last 15 minutes. So we all sat on one end of the girls dressing room and started talking. We said a few jokes, and then someone said they had a ghost story. So I'm like, alright, we'll tell ghost stories.

When i said that, our only freshman, Jordon, started buttschooching across the dressing room. We asked him what he was doing. "I'm going to the dark side!"

I believe today is the last day. We'll practice from 1 to 5 and then have our BBQ and do a premiere show for the parents and guests.

Funny story:

So we're eating lunch yesterday in the band hall way when one of my friends spells "booty sweat" with his Cheezit Scrabbles. Turns out thats a joke in the drum line where in the show, there's a rest for two counts, and instead of counting "1..2.." my two friends would yell "BOOTY SWEAT". So back in the hallway, everytime someone walked by, my one friend would say "EXCUSE ME! Whats that on your pants?" and his friend would yell "BOOTY SWEAT"!!

You just have to here how he says it, its just a classic!

My band camp starts next week. It'll be my last one EVER crying

Random, but does anyone call their band camp something different? Ours is called "Fall Training Program," or FTP for short. I guess cause it sounds cooler.

This is my third day at band camp...it's not at a camp, it's just at our school. 9 to 1, Monday to Friday (one week). Everyday we work on the music for a while, then we work on the field show for an hour or two on the field. We've had optional practices all summer, so we've already got almost our first song out with the sets. 8D
Next year we're going to be spending a few days at an overnight camp! I'm so excited for it!

A few stories from this year:

We stand up when we work on just the song, so we can march in place, and memorize our step offs before we go on the field. So naturally, we move our chairs back a little for room. Well, while the BD was talking, we suddenly hear a loud thud. We all look back to see our barri sax player Rob on his back, with his horn across his chest. (he tried to sit down) And the BD looks shocked and says, "Woah! Is the horn okay?!" Rob says, "Yup. I broke it's fall." x'D (it might be funnier if you were there.)

Also involving Rob, we broke into sections (flutes, saxes, clarinets, etc.) to work on marching and maneuvering. We do "8 to 5" (8 steps per 5 yards on the field), and we have to count, "and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4." Well Rob decided to yell in a German accent while counting. X'D After a few minutes the BD yelled across the field, "Hey Rob, less German, more marching."

Oh, and my section, the saxophone section, is now DELTA SQUAD. (Δ SQUAD) x'D and we form triangles with our hands and proclaim it loudly.

As our bass clarinetist likes to yell, "I LOVE BAND CAMP!!"

I wanted to kill myself when I was at band camp.

Why?
1) I nearly cried like over 9000 times.
2) I had to run 6 laps. I have high blood pressure plus I'm kinda chubby so I nearly threw up (It was like 87 degrees..). I ended up crying to my section leader and band director.

But... A pit DID come over to see/listen to us play!!! 4laugh So I guess we did pretty good.

Our band camp was all week 8-3. It's been almost 5 years since our band completed drill on the third day of band camp. Thats a pretty good thing. Last year, we didnt have our first song memorized by our third show.

Band camp ends with skit night. All the other sections have a well thought out funny skit. The drum line skit. Put me on the stage and have me do impressions and walk around funny. Funniest things is, drum line came in second to last. We beat the group disqualified for inappropriate material. But since I was the only one who went on for drum line I, personally, won skit night "sweepstakes."

Well, my band camp is 6-9 for 1 week, 8-4 for 1 week, and then 6-9 until school starts. My camps start in late July. We have it on a practice field (that sucks) right outside of our band room. It's also only from the 35-35. (This shows how much people care about our band.) And then once a week during school, we have a practice for 3 hours. My band director is stupid. This is what we do every practice. Fundamentals, section warm up, Chunk part 1, chunk part 2/3 (they are combined), chunk part 4. Then he wonders why we don't get better. We do the same exact thing every show. I hate it so much.

One time at band camp...

The lights went out! No seriously last year during my band camp the lights in our room went out while we were playing what we knew of our show (Latin Fest including; Estancia, Smooth by Rob Thomas, and Conquestador). The very odd thing was we played better in the dark than we did outside on the blacktop xD

However this year's band camp nothing eventful happened to the entire band... But it was so hot on the third day that my pizza lunchable cooked itself! I had baked pepperoni and melted mozzarella cheese heart

Our band camp is monday-friday, and the last two weeks of august. It's not really a camp though. but that would be cool if it was.
Anyhoo~ we go from 8 AM to 5 PM everyday. However, on the friday of the first week, it only goes to one, and from 1:30 to 4, we have a pool party in the school's pool. Then on the last friday, we have a preview night, where a carl's jr. truck comes, we eat, then we perform for our family and friends.
Thefirst week, we have music block first, lunch, then basics block. The second week, we have drill block, lunch, sectionals block, then music ensemble block, which is either the band in two arcs (one woodwind and one brass, then battery behind) or marching and playing.
Last year (as in the 2009 season) our field had burnt lines (yard lines, sidelines, hashes, and then every four steps for cleaning drill). But this year, we had to use the soccer field, which had to be repainted every day. that was done by field managers, aka the lazy people that wanted to be in band but didn't want to march. They...failed miserably. Ah well.
