nathan_ngl I didn't see it happening at 15, but I do see it now that I am 17. I think I am mature enough to start talking about a serious relationship with the intent to marry. Even though I probably will not marry immediately at 18, I think I am of age, and mature enough to start planning my life 3nodding . well said! I have to say, age does not necessarily equal your maturity level; consequently, there is physical, mental, and emotional maturity, all of which are very different. While young, I at least like to think I am somewhat "mature," at the very least for my age. I'm still going to wait to get into a serious relationship, but I don't really think there is a certain age where somebody is "ready" to be involved in a relationship or not. Just my opinion- feel free to disregard it A random question- what does Judaism have to say about the differences in ages of people in relationships/marriages?

Ethically, I guess there could be a debate about that. Time for a new thread i guess? wink .

Ethically, I guess there could be a debate about that. Time for a new thread i guess? wink . nah, it'd probably go best in here. So I'll just start the discussion up with a new question: What is your opinion on the ages of people dating, and why? Personally, I think a few years, like under 5 or something, isn't bad, but if you have this 50 year old dating an 18 year old, I just find that a bit wrong sweatdrop

ok, about ages...
minimally, one has to be 12-13, to marry, depending on gender (girls have to be 12, whereas boys have to be 13. simple biological fact is that girls usually mature before boys). there is no maximum age of marriage. concerning age differences, there are also no restrictions. it is preferable, however, because of the commandment to have children (there are several opinions as to what that means- for example, to have a child, to have several children, to have at least one boy and one girl. i believe the latter is most accepted), that if either member has not previously had children (another debate is whether bastards, and other children conceived out of wedlock count), that that person marry someone capable of having a child with him/her. so it's ok for an 80 year old man to marry a 14 year old girl, but an 80 year old woman should not marry a 14 year old boy, because she will not be able to have children with him. again, this isn't chauvanism, just simple biological fact. of course, this is disregarding the possibility of polygamy, infertility, and several other issues. polygamy would indeed render the 80 year old-14 year old case moot (a woman can only have one husband, whereas a man can have any number of wives, though certain limits are suggested. again, not chauvanism, just practicality). but polygamy was hetered (outlawed...bad translation there) by rabbi gamliel, at least for ashkenazim. stuff like this makes me gratefull i'm sphard.

I'm 20, and there's no way in hell I feel like I'm ready to find a husband yet. I'm still getting to know myself as a person, reeling a bit from past relationships, and my mind chafes at the idea of committing to one person. (For now, anyway) I guess everyone's different. Right now I just wanna get my act together. >.> and right now I totally have a crush on an absolutely adorable goy. . .
