Asheirra barely heard his voice in her excitement. Suddenly, she froze. The fire fizzled away, face paling and her pupils returned to normal slits. But as they narrowed, so did her eyes. "Darn you Alek! You know better than to sneak up on me! This happened the last time!" Her cheeks turned red as she pushed away from him. She busied herself with smoothing her hair as she calmed down and recalled something. In that brief moment, when she though someone was attacking her, the first thought to fly through her mind was that Alek had been asleep when she'd left, and vulnerable. Had that made her react so much harshly? She gnawed on her lip to the point where one sharp tooth pierced it, though she didn't notice.

"Yeah, yeah." Muttered Alek with a small pout as he stepped back. His tail swished behind him, fire looping behind each swish as circles. "I was just checking you out." Alek nodded and crossed his arms trying his best to appear sincere. "How else could I find out if you were ready in case of any attack?"
Suddenly Alek's eyes narrowed because he thought he saw the shine of fresh blood on Ashierra's lips. "Are you okay?" He asked softly pointing to her mouth, "Is that blood?"

"Yeah, yeah. Just making sure. I believe you." She said sarcasticly, shaking her head. "You could have just asked. I'm fine for a fight. Could have told you that without breaking your neck." Her tongue flicked out and licked her lips where Alek pointed. The metallic taste of blood made Ashierra's mouth salivate slightly. Blood? She licked it again to clean it off. "It's nothing, I'm sure." She said, softer than before, almost embarassed. She didn't think Alek had hit her face... where'd the split lip come from?

"Yeah, but then you would've gone easier on me. No?" Replied Alek with a smirk, before pointing to himself with a silly grin. "I mean who would want to fight someone with this gorgeous~ face?"
Still Alek's playfulness shifted again as he peered at Ashierra's lip. "I wonder about your sureness." He murmured gently tracing a finger over her lip, "Does it sting?" He asked barely brushing his finger over her bottom lip once more.

"No. Fighting for life is not something I take lightly." She said in all seriousness, glaring at him as if to a misbehaving child. Fighting was one thing she took most serious. It was what had her here, alive, today. She lowered her eyes to watch his finger brush her lip, carefully making sure the warmth his touch sent up her neck was hidden. "I am always sure. And no, it doesn't. I've had worse." She didn't feel pain from it, but it was starting to throb a little. She was touched that Alek actually seemed to care about something as small as a cut lip on her. It was also embarassing. "I should clean it up." She said quickly, spinning and heading into the cave and settling next to the fresh water in there as far down the spring as possible so as not to taint the part they drank from.

"Well that's good." Replied Alek though he frowned, "I wasn't just goofing you know." His tail flicked as she walked away before he could get another word in. Still the cattaur couldn't help but to humph and roll his eyes at the empty space.
"Well jeez thanks, Ashierra. I mean I was just worried about you and well just thanks for the sudden leave!" But he whispered instead of yelled and an amused smile flickered over his features before he took went off. But he didn't walk to the cave, instead he walked the opposite way so he could see the clearing in daylight this time.

As Ashierra cleaned her lip, she didn't think. She just focused on cleaning, using it to return to her training. Blank mind. Focus. Forget... Forget the warm touch. Forget the tender eyes. Forget the soft lips.... Calm... Soon, her heart beat was steady, and any attraction to Alek was pushed back. For the time being at least. Travelling into strange land, she could no longer allow herself to be so easily distracted.

Since everything looked clear and safe, Alek decided it was time to get Ashierra so they could move on. His hand brushed against a tree and he sighed. Maybe one day he would visit this place again, it was such a restful place for him.
Tail swishing eagerly behind him with excitement for the journey, Alek approached Ashierra. "Hey, Ashy! Hey!" Alek's voice rang out like music in the warm morning air with a bit of urgency to it, "We should get going." He simply stated with a grin before heading inside the cave to recheck everything before leaving.

By the time Alek got back to the cave, Ashierra was finishing packing her bag. She looked up when he entered. "Yes. We'll see how far over the mountains we can get before night. I prefer not sleeping on baren mountain tops such as these. It didn't seem like much shelter will be provided to us up there." Slinging the bag over her, she looked around once more. "Lets head on." She stated, all business.

For a second, Alek was nearly stunned by Ashierra's stiff reply. What was up with her now? "Ye-yeah." Alek shook his head and checked to make sure his own traveling pack was firmly closed.
"And like I said, if we can find the pass it should be fair travel. Surely we can find somewhere to nest for the night if we had too." His eyes gleamed, "If you really didn't want to rest we could just walk the whole night as well until we found better ground."
His hand touched the cavern walls as he headed down the tunnel and back out into the light as a silent thank you to the cave for sheltering them. "Hurry, up!" Alek tried to sound light hearted, but the way Ashierra acted still kinda confused him.

Also giving the cavern a gentle thank you touch, Ashierra exited after Alek. "A pass would be preferable. We'll see what the terrain and the light is like up there before choosing to travel during the night." Breaking through the woods, she nearly gasped out loud. The world in that secluded forest was so radicaly different from the rest of the mountain side, she'd almost been able to forget it. She pushed silently on, tail held high for balance on the ever steepening slopes.

"The terrain is a bit rocky, but besides the loose pebbles and occasional boulder that rests against the trail it's smooth." Replied Alek as he walked towards the forest's edge to where the path began. "So when we're traveling on one of the really narrow strips, which we'll reach one after several yards of travel, please keep your hand against the cliff side for good balance. The pass will probably be narrow as well from what I've observed of the trail."
Alek didn't even turn around to smirk at Ashierra as he looked up at the mountains. His gaze narrowed, they'd have to be careful indeed. Just because he didn't see any others last night didn't mean that they could be surprised.

"Okay." Ashierra said with a nod. Her golden eyes were sharp, taking in everything she saw. Took a deep breath. This was traveling, not a battle. She let her shoulders relax, and used her tail to play with a ball of fire as they walked on. "I don't like narrow passes." She muttered.

"Get used to not liking things." Replied Alek, half playfully before he stole the ball of fire with his own tail. Rolling it on the tip, Alek finally threw it back to Ashierra.
His focus was back on the trail as it started getting narrower. Pebbles skittered under his paws, and he was torn about going first. 'I trust her not to fall.' He stamped out of the fire of worry, and decided the being ahead just in case the path was dangerous was the best idea.

Ashierra cocked an eyebrow at Alek as she caught the ball in her hand. "Trust me, I'm used to it. Doesn't mean I can't still voice it once in a while." There were many things about her life she didn't like... but she needed to stay focused, and didn't linger on the thought. She looked down at the loose ground and back up at Alek, who was going ahead of her. 'Be careful Alek...' The thought suprised her, and she shoved it angrily away, carefully following after the male. "This looks like a solid mountain. What's with all the loose ground?"
