"No, not tired. Frustrated." Abigail said, lifting her head up. She sighed softly. She had replayed the message from that strange voice in her head a thousand times. It had no distinct voice she could recognize, and left no trace. She couldn't figure this out! She drummed her fingers softly on the table.

Kit heard a loud knock at her door, and stood from her place on the floor, she had been cleaning out a small combustion engine and had grease and smuts all over her hands and face.

She stepped over the dozens of parts and used her forearms to unlock and open the door. To her surprise a man stood outside, one who she had never seen before.

"May I help you sir?" She asked and glanced around to make sure he did not have any one watching the house. She wiped her filthy hands on her dingy stained apron and opened the door wider, gesturing that he may come in.

Gustav blinked a little as the door opened. "Well well, a woman! There's not many in your line of work, I have to say."

Noticing her gesturing for him to come in, he did so, removing his outdoor jacket and hanging it on a coathook in the hallway. Looking around, he found the house was a bizarre mix of comfortable homeliness, and at the same time, a chaos of mechanical parts, books and other paraphernalia.

Entering the sitting room, where Kit was stood, he introduced himself.

"You may have heard of me, you may not have, it is of no consequence. My name is Gustav Sedriech, and I run a small successful airliner business. Anyway, the trouble is", he said, motioning to the box of piston seals on the floor by his feet, "I need someone with enough mechanical knowledge to work on my airliner. Tell me, do you know anything about a Mark I Falke? I have one of the first, and while it is a beauty, a joy to fly, it has developed a problem."

Kit shrugged. "I may be a woman Mr. Sedrech, but I am not uneducated." She closed the door and moved to take a seat on a small chair after moving a stack of reference book off of it and onto the floor. She grinned and crossed her legs.

"I know what your ship looks like sir, but I don't think I will be able to give you my opinion on how to fix it until I have been hired. I can't afford to give any handouts right now." She laughed. Her dirty hand reached down and picked up one of many projects next to the chair, this one was something she could do without even looking, it was simply a good-sized tarnished gear head that needed polishing. Kit needed something to busy her hands with, if she landed it, this was exactly the opportunely she had always dreamt of.

"I never wanted to imply you were uneducated. Why, some women are the greatest and most respected minds of our time! Look at Laura Kingsley, the Queen of Analytical Engines! She absolutely revolutionised the world with her knowledge of mechanical computers!"

He smiled at Kit, watching her deft fingers pick up a gear.

"I have a very good idea of what it is, according to this book", he mentioned, pulling out a book from underneath the box of seals. Handing her 'HimmlerHersteller Engines and You', he continued. "I believe it is the steam seals on the pistons, as there is a noticiable lack of pressure under load. However, I am no mechanic, so you, Ms. Lob, are the very person I am looking for."

Standing up, he put on his jacket, smoothing out the crinkles, before flashing a smile at Kit.

"How does a payment of Ten Pounds, for two months sound? Upfront of course. I have the utmost confidence in you, and I'd like you to work for me as soon as possible."

((Remember, back then, ten pounds was a huge amount of money.))

{Ahhh! sorry! }

Kit nodded and chuckled. She stood and took the man by the hand heartily. "Yes! I shall take it. You've got a deal Mr. Sedriech." Her face had lit up and she was very happy with the payment. Her dirty hands spread grease and grim onto The mans as she released him and balled her hands into fists to be placed on her hips.

"So where is this ship of yours I need to start right away... Do you have tools or should I bring my own?" Two very important questions. Her own toolset would take a long time to drag over, it was kept in it's own room and scattered about the house, she loved wrenches and pliers, hammers and mallets.

((Hello, hope y'all don't mind me joining. Been out of the forums for a while and thought I'd join one again. Hope you like my writing as must as I've liked yours.))

Erin walked into town near the end of the day, the setting sun highlighting her hair with auburn light, and illuminating her eyes sharply. She was dressed in lace-up boots, knee-length workers shorts, a loose-fitting tee and a small cargo vest that covered her shoulders to just below her waist. The most conspicuous items she carried were a large metal case in her left hand and a crossbow across her back. The crossbow was mostly metal with a small steam pressure tank attached to the shoulder rest. Each tank was good for about 12 shots and served the dual purpose of assisting her to lock the cord back, and propel the bolts. She had modified the weapon further to activate a variety of "trick" bolts she'd invented.

Her critical gaze passed over the buildings and people around her as her mind went over her current assignment. Being asked to transport a new experimental valve assembly for ST&T wasn't her usual job, but the pay was good. She had of course looked it over thoroughly last night, before putting it away for safekeeping, and was impressed as usual with the workmanship. It would probably help streamline many engines on the market and be in the works for several years to come. Till some new young buck worked out a better design anyway.

The next stage of her journey was set to take off in two days time, but she needed to find a temporary residence until then. To this end, as she walked a few of the streets, she allowed her mind to expand slightly into the surrounding area. Although her first discovery of her telepathic abilities had been traumatic, she had learned to control them to the point that she was able to subtly gain knowledge of a person’s state of mind without them realizing anything. She could do more, but not as subtly, and she never liked people to know of her ability unless absolutely necessary. Besides, usually a basic knowledge of a persons feeling was all she needed. Right now she was trying to find either someone who would feel like opening their home for a few days, or a hotel manager who was disappointed about not having all their rooms filled.

"Oh, well that's excellent! I do have a few tools at the airpad, but nothing specialised. You may just want to bring them along, theres a storage hangar up there if you feel like keeping them near the AirSpire."

Fishing inside his waistcoat, he withdrew a chequebook and curiously decorated fountain pen, and made out an amount of ten pounds to Ms. Kit Lob. Putting the articles back inside his pockets, he flourished the check towards Kit.

"I have the utmost faith in you Ms. Lob. Show me that giving you those monies was worth it." Looking around, Gustav pondered, before picking up the box of piston seals and his book. "I shall give you time to gather your tools. Meet me on Airpad 28 on the Spire. It's the only one with an extending platform. Much needed for a craft that accelerates horizontally, don't you think?", he said, with a wry grin.
