Started Weight Watchers: 9 March 2006
First Weight Loss Goal: 22 pounds -- GOAL MET Current Weight Loss Goal: 25 more pounds (total of 47 pounds)
Total Loss: 26.6 pounds as of 2 July 2006. Yes, this is up 2 pounds from last week, but I'd eaten a big breakfast and lunch, and drunk 2 liters of water before weigh-in, so I'm not at all upset by the apparent gain.
Fitness: I work out in the gym once a week; take three walks weekly; do stomach rolls/crunches/situps once a week; do deep/forceful breathing exercises once a day.
Recent Rewards: I took two skirts in to be altered on Tuesday, trying out a new tailor. If I like the results, I'll have the rest of my skirts done there as well. If not, I'll search out another tailor and try a couple more skirts. Best of all, these skirts were tight in March. Now they're falling off of me. When I told this to my mother, she went and ordered me a couple of workout outfits. SO cute. I'm going to enjoy wearing them to workouts.
Non-Weight Goal: I will be able to enjoy my family reunion this October with my active family, including walks around town and country to visit sites important in our family history.

Started Weight Watchers: 9 March 2006
First Weight Loss Goal: 22 pounds -- GOAL MET Current Weight Loss Goal: 25 more pounds (total of 47 pounds)
Total Loss: 31.2 pounds as of 10 July 2006. Woo hoo!
Fitness: I work out in the gym once a week; take three walks weekly; do stomach rolls/crunches/situps once a week; do deep/forceful breathing exercises once a day.
Recent Rewards: Tomorrow I'll be picking up the skirts I had tailored, and we'll see how well they fit. If this tailor did a good job on them, I'll take my other skirts down to be tailored as well; if not, I'll take them to another tailor which is more expensive but known to be the best in this part of town.
Non-Weight Goal: I will be able to enjoy my family reunion this October with my active family, including walks around town and country to visit sites important in our family history.

I know how you feel, vanthie, but take heart!
If you were ever at your ideal weight, count up how long it took you to get to the point at which you decided it was finally time to work to get rid of the extra. Then take the average of how much you gained. For me, it took gaining about 5 or 6 pounds a year to reach my highest weight. That doesn't seem like much, but it certainly adds up. Over 5 years, that's 25 to 30 pounds; over ten years, that's 50 to 60 pounds; over 20 years, it's 100 to 120 pounds of excess weight.
The good news? If you lose weight at just 1 pound a week, that's 52 pounds in a year's time and 104 pounds in two years' time. It may feel slow, but compared to how slowly you probably gained your excess weight, it's lightning fast. You're doing VERY WELL, and you have a lot to be proud of!

I never thought of it like that, it really does put things into perspective. 52 pounds in a year o_o. I guess sometimes when I see I have put on a few - or I don't lose any, it just seems pointless and makes me want to eat junk. I really need to start doing more exercise again to keep it off. I think...using that I put on about 7lbs a year since I started gaining weight...damn that seems like alot. I guess I just have to been more patient xD when losing weight.

I really encourage you to join Weight Watchers or some other group that focuses on sensible eating and activity. It's very, very encouraging to be among other people who have the same issues you have, and who can speak to the experiences you're going through. Every week, someone in my meeting reaches a milestone -- first five pounds, first ten pounds, first twenty-five, one hundred, goal weight -- and we talk about what the person considers the most motivating factor and the most important factor in the weight loss success. There's also a lot of talk about non-weight success, and I love that, too. Sometimes, success is just making it to the meeting that week. Sometimes, success is overeating one day, then getting up the next day and starting with a clean slate and self-forgiveness. Sometimes it's having a good workout. Sometimes it's putting on clothes that have been too tight, only to find that they're too loose. But yes, the most important thing is to stay encouraged and motivated. I was whining to a friend of mine before joining the program. "But if it takes me two years to lose this weight, I'll be _____ years old by then!" She looked me right in the eye and said, "How old will you be in two years if you don't lose the weight?" Even if it took me ten years to lose the weight I want to lose, I'd still enjoy those ten years more, knowing that I was healthier and that I could wear cuter clothing. So don't give up! You can do this!

You can do this! Thanks for the encoragment whee I have thought about joining something like weight watchers in the past. But I get scared (I swear I have social anxiety disorder xD) about meeting new people and all that stuff that comes with it. Also at the moment I am looking for work...so I don't exactly have that much money left, and even though *I just checked* at the moment you don't have to pay a joining fee, it still is quite a bit a week to be paying when I haven't got a job...but then I think....when I get a job...I'm not going to have time to go gonk it's like a vicious circle. If I had the money, I would probably go - but would I find the time? It's the same reason I haven't joined a gym ( That and the fact I'm afraid if I go everyone will be skinny) - not anough money, not enough time...I do want that support network - and I do want to talk to people about weight loss etc face to face, but at the moment I don't know if I am ready for it sweatdrop

Of course, with the Season Pass, you can go to as many meetings as you want. I think the meetings are extremely helpful, since you get to share ideas, recipes, and encouragement. Also, knowing that you have a weekly weigh-in can keep you honest all week long. "If I eat this today, it'll show up on the scale next Wednesday." That kind of thing. The support network is wonderful. Plus, if you can walk to the meeting and home again, that's at least one day a week that you've done exercise. But mostly, I'd encourage you to go, simply because paying for the meetings isn't nearly as expensive as paying for the medical bills that come along with all the problems associated with being overweight.

Over here (UK) they do the same kind of thing I think - every now and again you don't have tp pay for membership. I think I will probably do sometimes like going to weight watchers eventually, but right now I'm just going to have to make do with free exercise at home and onlines stuffs until I feel as though I'm ready for it 3nodding
