Hiding in a fair fight is cowardly, but if you're getting chased by a turbo powered tank it's different, hiding is actually a smart menuver when trying to outsmart someone who is vastly better equipped.
wouldnt you throw a grenade inside a tank to kill the passengers and drivers if it meant you could disable the tank? wouldnt you hide in a cave if it was too small a crevice for a T-rex to even get it's jaws close to you? wouldnt you run around corners and get out of line of sight if it meant that cocky mage wouldnt get to hit you with a fireball?
you'd run around a corner if it meant dodging a bullet right?
well that's the point of hiding from the land masters and massive giga bowser.
I have a very simple solution to this;
Don't let them get the smash ball. Or better yet, don't use items.
Why do you think items aren't used in Melee tournaments? Because they're unbalanced and create a large luck factor that doesn't show skill.
"Being able to use items well is just another skill that you have to master to master the game."
We've heard this before, and really, can you do consecutive bad drops with half of the cast? (And if you think its simple, you obviously can't.)
Unless you can duplicate the item so that each player gets it at the same time, so much depends on WHERE the item drops when it does, that it doesn't depend on actual skill with your character. Every character can spam the beam sword and chuck it at you while you're off the edge, killing you easily. I could do that before I even knew what advanced play was.
