I was actually thinking about that, and I think in the case of the Ba'al, you would have to choose a TYPE of sword

So Katana, or longsword or broadsword etc. Since most people aren't carrying more than one sword on them.

=3 Alright then, thanks so much!

I hope to have something to post by next Friday; this weekend'll be my only chance to type something up. ><;

GRATS, RAJA AND GABS! whee heart

Ah, so the speciality of a Ba'al is their weapon? ... Does it have to be? Because I was thinking of a particular skill / role, instead. More like, say, "assassin", "beserker", or what kind of attack / fighting they specialise in. Does that work?

A few questions about the prompts:
For prompt 1, does your character have to start at the apprentice stage? Not having a Master yet implies that they could not even properly be an apprentice yet, let alone a journeyman. Would it be acceptable to have that as a flashback-style RP so that the character could currently be a journeyman and be remembering the difficulties he/she had finding a Master?

For prompt 2, is there a 'too high' or 'too low' for the Ursari's stature to be (as in, do you want to avoid characters who are nobles/beggars)? What are the relative levels of 'highness' among the families, and are there ranks for it or is it more along the lines of knowing that a certain matriarchal line is more important than others?

Setting-related questions:
Since these characters will be involved in a future plot, is it safe to assume that they are all within the same location? To that end - the current metaplot RPs are within a caravan, right? So what's that caravan like - who's the prominent family, where have they been, where are they going... that sort of thing.

Is the 'Baba' the matriarch of the caravan, or is that another character? Are there any prominent figures of note within the caravan, or can we assume that it's a large enough sprawl that nobody stands out above the rest?

General questions:
Would an Ursari ever change families? You mention that some Luminista have joined the Veduni, for example. Could a Ba'al-born child with an interest in dance join the Aishe after apprenticing in bladework for a while, or are they pretty much set in their family from birth? Is there an age past which that sort of family-shifting would be frowned upon (or even impossible)?

Does the 'seller of' designation have to relate explicitly to their family calling? For example, a Ba'al could be listed as selling daggers, but also 'protection' or 'peace of mind' if their trade is in their services rather than their goods. But a Luminista could also sell 'protection' if they sell warding spells or the like, and 'peace of mind' if they sell something to soothe your fears. And an Aishe could sell 'peace of mind' for... well, other things.

Also, you mention that the 'seller of' designation must be original - does this mean it must be unique among characters? So if one Ursari sells 'Small Animals' does that mean that nobody else can, or that they must word it in a different way?

*Buries Natsu under questions!* XD

Questions as well:
1.) Do we place our rp profile in the thread first and wait for it to be looked over?
2.) Similar in a way to Slander's question. Since families marry from other families at times, could a master from another family be a tutor for another family? Say, a Luminesta that was married into the Aishe, and now tutors a Aishe?

I think Slander got my third question about ranking.

What exactly does Position/Expression mean?

Thanks! smile
PostPosted: Fri Oct 31, 2008 9:44 am

It's (probably) talking specifically about the art. Like.. in what kind of position would your character likely be standing in as well as their facial expression / general demeanor. ^^ Could also apply to any kind of actions you'd like your character depicted doing.. pouring a vial of something into another vial of something, leaning on a sword, hefting a coin purse, etc etc.

It doesn't have to be; In order to leave some ideas free, i asked her to choose a type of sword, since each type really has a different connotation ie a samurai vs a knight.

But as long as it fits in the family type, anything goes. And I'd rather see things as SPECIFIC as possible. Broad categories such as "Healer" doesn't fly with me.

ALSO. Anyone who wishes me to look at quest threads and answer specific questions pertaining to whats allowed can link me to their quest thread. Posting your forms in your quest threads won't count against you.

LOL.

1. You can do that, no problem. Flashbacks are totally fine with me.

2. As for stature, there are different levels of "nobility". It usually pertains to power and wealth, as Ursari can move up the social ladder by becoming wealthy. On the same note, there aren't beggars as such. Even the lowliest Ursari would never, EVER beg. They are far too proud. Beggar Ursari could pick up the streets, wash caravans, etc. They don't have a craft, or any talent, and they do what they can. Some beggars could possibly be ousted members of families (ousted members are usually exiled but sometimes they are simply stripped of their name and worldly goods)

There are ranks, I just havent worked them out yet, but there are Matriarchs of the clan which are "Voted" on, but usually one family dominates.

3. GOOD QUESTION.

Currently, the caravan that all the characters are in is a mid sized one. It would have about 500 people in total, with vast amounts of livestock and wagons, etc. They are currently on a different planet, AKA not gaia. Feel free to make the sky a different colour, change things, etc. While setting is important, the fact that the Ursari are constantly moving can be taken in to account.

This caravan is run by the Veduni, who have an iron clamp over what the Luminista can do. And have started to try and control ALL magical aspects of the caravan.

4. Baba is a matchmaker but not a matriarch. Consider matriarchs as Guild leaders, and the 7 families 7 different guilds. Matriarchs control the money of the family (as the Ursari pay a tax on every item/service they sell for wagons, upkeep etc)

Important Members: The matriarchs of each family, Baba the matchmaker, Iyagi, who is in charge of the caravan, such as where it goes, what it does, how they lay things out etc. (he's a Aishe, though is prim for an Ursari), and Silva.

Silva is a uni, though she has not been born yet. Her mother is resolutely holding to the oft chance that they might have missed something, though its very easy to tell when a uni is to be born. Hold a tuning fork up to the belly. With a normal birth, it sings. With a uni... it makes a terrible sound and twists. Do not use a good tuning fork when attempting this.

Ursari DO change families a lot. This is usually done by cross-family marriages. Usually, marriages take place within the family, when a child has become an apprentice and their abilities set. But if a Luminista child is born without a talent in magic, it is common practice to marry her to someone within the family that her talent lies. This usually takes place before a child reaches 13 or 14, but some children have very latent talents. It is rare, but not unheard of, for a journeyman to apply to a different family for new training. In that case, the journeyman renounces all ties to his prior family and assimilates in to the new one.

And an Aishe could sell 'peace of mind' for... well, other things.

The seller of is their main ware, what the largest amount of their money comes from, or what they are particularily talented in. A pitivo might be a swordsmith but trains with the Ba'al and is sometimes called upon to be part of a rag-tag mercenary team. Think of your character as if they are a shop, and market them that way. No one wants to go in to a shop and not clearly know the path of the services or goods available to them.

Slander

Also, you mention that the 'seller of' designation must be original - does this mean it must be unique among characters? So if one Ursari sells 'Small Animals' does that mean that nobody else can, or that they must word it in a different way?

YES. You HAVE to be specific with your ware, since if someone goes for even "exotic animals" uh. all animals are then taken. Even choosing mammals or raptiles etc will be better than claiming a largeeee group of things. Anyone who chooses a BROAD category will have a bit of a harder time with me, because it just isn't fair to those who come later.

Ask me MOARRR slander.

1. Please post a link to your quest if you want me to look it over so you have a chance to change it. If you post everything in here, i will be saving it and considering it done. Posting one half will just disqualify you (adds to the front page)

2. I sorta answered this for Slander, but marriages between families are a neccessity not something that happens a lot. Its more like a business deal than anything else, a way to give another family a new worker that is of use to them and getting a sum in return. So yes that would happen, because that luminista (male or female, the name change depends on the person moving to a new family) is now considered an aishe, and will always BE an Aishe.

Exactly; anything not related to the clothing, such as holding an animal or a lantern etc, would be listed there.
