Reaper tried to keep a straight face as much as he could. But the look on her face...it was one he was rather used to seeing. Even after he'd tried to hide the gore a bit. Maybe she'd...caught a glance at the back wall out of the corner of her eye. Whatever the case, he knew that she was scared now, and it was after he had approached her. His immediate thoughts pointed the blame at himself. Again.
With his heart pounding in his chest, he nodded. "Sure." he replied gently. "Do you...want to leave in a different way? I can teleport rather than using shadows if you'd prefer." It would probably be quicker. She wouldn't have to think much about where she wanted to go if she just wanted to get out of the room.

That allowed her rational mind to cut through the thick haze of fight or flight response, and her eyes became a little less wide, a little less like a terrified animal's. After a moment she nodded once, just a sharp little jerk of her head. "... Thank you. Just... outside," she said quietly, then seemed to think of something and quickly added, "The other animals--I don't want to leave them here."

Reaper nodded. "Alright. I'll take care of them. Let's get you out of here first though." he said.
Barely a moment after he had said that, the scenery around the two changed drastically. Fresh air, the sky above them, the city below them, and the Oscorp building behind them.
Reaper paused a moment, looking over Cat to make sure she was alright. "I'll....be back in a minute." he said quietly. A moment later, he was gone. Back inside to take care of the other animals.

Cat stood there for a long moment, her body still wire tight and her face white as a sheet. Then, as the night air blew around her, smelling like ozone and cars and too many people, the way it always did, she gradually relaxed. Very slowly she sank down to the ground, her legs curled underneath her, and took a deep breath as her rational mind reasserted itself with a vengeance.
That had been... unexpected. It wasn't as though she had any particular problems with gore or death, but... There had just been so many dead animals, predators all, and she had been able to smell every one of them, smell the mutation that had been in their blood just and the sick, sewer smell of their organs. The feeling of it had been all around her, saturating her, and she had been positive that she was next. Positive.

Reaper reappeared inside the room and just...stood there. His eyes were focused on the painted wall behind the cages. Going over each pattern. Each different shade of red. How black it looked in the dark, and how reflective it was in the light. Dripping from the cages. And yet...he didn't feel any better. To be honest, he felt worse. He hadn't felt bad about making a painting in...years. He almost wanted to take it back. Just the look on Cat's face...he'd seen so many like it before and it never phased him. The few that did phase him, well it had been years. It used to make him feel like...reminded him...that there was something wrong with him.
Looking away from the cages, he turned towards the frightened animals left in the corner. They were still in a panic. They'd probably never let a human around them again after that. Perhaps it was time to play with his new telepathic powers and see what he could do. Get a lock on each little brain. Put them to sleep. And...try to erase this whole day from their minds.
Alright...that wasn't very difficult. Now where to take them? Zoo? Animal shelter? That one would probably be best. Make sure he put them in cages so no one would get hurt when they walked into work. Slowly, the animals behind the cages faded from the room. Reaper stood in place, trying to concentrate on what he was doing. After a few minutes, he sighed and relaxed his stance. He took another look over at the wall, then shook his head and walked over to where Cat had been sitting. Perhaps he should give her a few more minutes...

Frowning, Cat glanced back at the building. He had been in there a long time... Maybe... she hated to think about it, but maybe he had gone in there to take care of the animals, and had ended up... Taking Care of Them. She wanted to think that his self control was better than that, but she was almost sure that the only thing that had stopped him from killing Fisk had been her timely arrival and fairly obvious disprovable; Wilson Fisk had been a person, and these were just animals.
Frowning, she pulled out the file again, mostly to give herself something to do. There wasn't very much information, all things considered; when one took into account Fisk's resources, that said something rather alarming, all by itself. This organization had to be well funded, full of heavy-hitters, or both. ... That said, there weren't exactly a surplus of heroes around to take care of it.

Shadows from the corner of the rooftop finally moved about, and Reaper rose out of them. He stood still for a moment, looking over her again to make sure that she was alright. Realizing that she did seem to be in a better state, Reaper carefully walked towards her. He tried to keep his expression as neutral as he could, but he still felt an odd sense of guilt.

Hearing his footsteps, Cat looked up from her reading. He looked... normal. Certainly not like he'd just finished slaughtering a bunch of helpless animals. Suddenly, she felt absolutely horrible. After all, she had suggested this. A weak, rather sheepish little smile made its way across her face as she stood.
"Sorry," she said, trying to keep her tone light, "I didn't mean to freak out on you." Her cheeks were burning. What the hell had happened to the smooth Felicia Hardy who made Peter Parker stammer like a teenager on a regular basis? She felt incredibly stupid, not to mention guilty for assuming the worst so quickly. Luckily, she was able to keep her facial expression under control.

Reaper attempted to return the smile. "It's alright. I have a knack for making people...uncomfortable." he replied, then paused a moment. "I'm sure I went overboard. I shouldn't have made such a mess of them. I'm...not used to having someone else with me." Not like that anyway. The few times he did, they either wanted to see him work...or Reaper wanted them to be freaked out. And he was so used to making an utter mess of his kills, it didn't really occur to him to tone it down a couple dozen notches.

Cat shook her head. "I was the one who suggested it, remember?" she pointed out. "It's not like I usually have a problem with blood, either. It was just... I could smell... everything. I mean... everything. It was like concentrated death, in that tiny little lab, and..." Without really thinking about it, she moved closer to him and put a light hand on his arm. "It wasn't you that made me uncomfortable."

Reaper blinked a moment, as if he weren't expecting to hear something like that. And he could feel his heart pound away in his chest again. Though with a much happier rhythm than it had been beating out before. He let a small smile curl around his lips. "I'll...try to make sure I check the room out a little better next time then. Make sure it can air out." he replied.

Cat quirked an eyebrow at him. "That's not necessary. I'm not staying in the room, next time," she told him dryly, "It was stupid of me to do it this time; I trust you to do whatever you have to do; there's no reason for me to chaperon."
Suddenly she remembered the file and held it out to him, her expression growing somewhat pensive. "Not to change the subject, but did you see this one?"

Reaper took the file and gave it a look over. "No, I really didn't look at any of them yet." he replied. "Something problematic?"
Ooh...yeah. Advanced tech, magic, possibly controlling powers...not that he seen much of a problem with such a thing. Be a bit of a hypocrite if he did. But still...having literally anyone being able to have powers.
....two things came to mind for that. And neither of them were things he really wanted to think about. The....lab....he spent so much time in was named something utterly different. And they didn't have the most advanced tech around, or magic to help them. Blackstone would certainly be someone who would be involved with something like this. Probably footing the bill for it. But...he doubted Blackstone would just give out powers to anyone. Even if they paid for them.

"To be honest, I'm not very interested in getting involved," Cat said offhandedly, "But this looks like a recipe for disaster. If everyone had super powers, any order that's been created in this..." She gestured uncertainly. "Pocket dimension would be completely out the window. Not to mention," she added irritably, "It would be considerably harder to do my job if run-of-the-mill security guards could throw fireballs."

Reaper nodded, his eyes flickering over what information was given in the file. "That would change things quite a bit..." he said, then looked back up at her. "So then...what do you think? Find this place and sneak around...try to find out more about the place? Or...see if there's anyone else that would be able to help do something about this?"
The more he thought about it, the more he kind of wanted to go. Not completely...especially not if magic was involved. But...he was curious now. Was this one of Blackstone's new factories?
