"Is that so?" Edmund murmured, watching the creature fall limp and pitiful, hanging from the broken wing. And so, despite not having seen Mordred in so very long, the angel had discerned all purpose. An interesting man indeed...

But why had the angel deigned it his responsibility to come and tell him?

"Indeed, it is. You see, this pathetic beast was sent to find a certain demon who happens to be lost in his own mind right now-- a member of the house I live in, but certainly not all there. He apparently remembers nothing right now, save the coon Beta." This brought a peculiar smirk to Mordred's lips as he considered the chaos going on right now.

"Unfortunately, there are a pair of troublemakers who seem to want to find this demon and do hell knows what with him-- and one has already been dispatched by the other, to find him. Quite frankly, I think that this little demon deserves some... special attention-- so I decided to bring this to you, as you're probably the only one I've met who might understand what's so interesting about this," Mordred smiled, wings all a-shimmer with excitement.

Edmund bowed his head slightly in deference. "Your concern touches me deeply," he murmured. There it was again, the pulse of eagerness and the suggestion of control. Complete control--knowledge, understanding, and more knowledge than all other parties combined. For that was where they stood, wasn't it? None of the others new quite as many parts as they... For even if one of the others were to become aware of Edmund, they still wouldn't know what part Madison Square Garden had played.

And yet, now Edmund wasn't the only one to know it all. He should have felt challenged by that, but in the case of this angel... in the case of Mordred, it was practically desirable that the angel should know as much. Expected at the very least.

And now appreciated.

"Now comes the real question, doesn't it, Edmund?" Mordred smiled easily. "What shall we do about all of this, I wonder? Rae is, right now, on his way to collect Asteil from who knows where, and Sajar is contemplating how many ways to attack the boy to get whatever information he thinks that demon holds."

Yes, wasn't that the question? Leave Asteil to the wolves and murmur to Kairos whose fault it was or take him into your own keeping and... that was where the logic stopped, really? What advantage could it possibly be to him to interfere with Asteil, especially if he really was in danger?

"Wouldn't it be the responsibility of his pack leaders to ensure his safety, my lord?" Edmund murmured with a slight smile, "Or even the responsibility of my own to keep Sajar and Rae in check. Whatever the case, the actions of one of my position mean nothing and should not be allowed to interfere..."

"Well, Asteil's pack leaders are, shall we say, out of the picture for now?" Mordred rolled his eyes at that. "And your own are the causes for this-- and the pair of brats won't listen to anyone. Besides, I'm not looking into this for his safety, per se. More for the information locked inside that pretty little head of his.

"You see, if Sajar and Rae think Asteil knows something, or is involved with something, chances are he's involved with something akin to it. And what they think he's involved in is a very big problem, you see. Because I don't think that their ideas will bring anything to fruit."

Edmund remained silent for a moment longer. What he said was true. Neither Sajar nor Rae quite had it in them to understand what was at hand, with words such as 'Nature' and such. Edmund couldn't quite claim to understand either, though at least he wasn't trying to do anything about it and tended to ignore the mystical business if it really came down to that.

"It is folly to believe Asteil knows any more than others... How odd that they should be convinced as such," he murmured by way of response. "I would gladly ask what they intend to find if I thought it was of any particular consequence. You wouldn't, by any chance, have an inkling my lord?"

"They're probably looking to find something to tarnish the name of your Alpha," Mordred laughed. "They're none too fond of it-- especially after Balin caught them playing their games when they were younger. They want to throw him down from his place."

Games indeed. Sajar and Rae were the sort of schemers and upstarts that Edmund had little patience for. Perhaps because he viewed them as less refined, less worthy versions of himself.

"Balin is quite beyond reproach as far as Asteil's mind is concerned," he said politely, a touch caustically. "They would do better to challenge him outright than seek a roundabout through a demon."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 16, 2005 6:28 pm

"Oh, you and I know that much, Edmund," Mordred smiled. "I actually am more interested in the fact that the Alpha has suddenly taken a previously unnoticed interest in his Beta." Mordred wasn't as block-headed as Arthur liked to think-- and he paid more attention to the subtle undertones that everyone thought he looked over.

Oh, he noticed them-- just seldom thought they were worth his time.

Again, something worth noting. It would be a pity if Atticus were to find support, even solace in his alpha. Such attachments would have to be carefully severed... This didn't necessarily mean taking down the alpha period, merely ensuring that he was in no mood to offer aid to his beta.

If, then, they were able to ensure Asteil's return to Balin... It would require tricky maneuvering. It would require a plant of thought, of worry in Balin's mind, that something even worse than Asteil's amnesia had occurred, something for which Atticus deserved no pity...

Whatever the case, it wouldn't do to let the idiots find Asteil first. Mordred certainly was looking out for the best... "Why?"

"Why am I interested, you mean?" Mordred smiled. "My dear Edmund-- I am the Lord of War. I can feel the stirrings of one here. Perhaps I'm not certain on all the details, but I rather enjoy being in the thick of my element."

A smile edged across Edmund's lips, the small smile he reserved to hide any larger ones that might perchance creep up from inside. He bowed respectfully, "I hope I shall serve to your expectations, my Lord," for when this particular master called, he would almost undoubtedly be willing to serve.

Almost, of course.

"I'm sure you will," Mordred smiled, bloody ruby eyes shining with a peculiar sense of anticipation. "I'm sure you will. Now, do you want to come along on the hunt to keep the pair of idiots away from this demon who appears to be caught up in everything he doesn't understand? Or shall I go myself?"

A choice. Everyone made a choice sometime.

Edmund raised his hands in an apologetic manner, "I'd much prefer to separate them first, my lord. I'm much more inclined to deal with them one at a time. Besides which, it simply wouldn't do for anyone concerned to know too much about our association."
