Well...I went into the band room on my first day of middle school. I signed up for percussion. I had broken my arm that summer. He put up a piece of music and said, "Let's see if you can play number 2 here." I picked up both drumsticks, 1 in both hands. He noticed my broken arm and took the stick out of it.
"Whoa! No accidents here...Let's see if you can play this with 1 hand." I didn't know how to read the music (hoping I would learn that) so I stood there and stared at him like an idiot.
"Why don't you go back to your seat." he said. The next day he made me pick a different instrument. My aunt had a trumpet I could use temporarily until I could get my own. So now I play trumpet. It's not so bad. I can play pretty well...with the band. Not alone. But I would have wanted to play drums more. But I am the drummer in my rock band. It's called Silent Serenade.

Hahah. Well, I wanted to play something that was no where near the clarinet. Because, my mom played clarinet. And he would constantly critic me.
SO! I wanted to play trombone. DOESN'T EVEN HAVE BUTTONS!
But. She wouldn't let me, said it was too big. Then my dad said, since I like jazz, I should play the alto sax.
So I did.
But along the way. I ended up playing the Tenor, Soprano... and the Bari sax.
Trombone is too big hey?
xDDD
I still want to learn trombone though. ITS SO COOL!

I was a trumpet, but our band director said we needed people to switch because there were like two low brass, so I switched to baritone, since I used to be a trumpet.

My mom said I had to play to play the flute. She didn't want to buy anything else. But I love it. And I'm the best because no one else can play. :/

Well i play Trumpet, and how i got started was that i was asked by a Very close Friend to play Taps at his Fathers funeral (His Father was in the military) I couldn't say no so i bought a Trumpet and practiced. The day of the funeral i showed up and played. A couple of ppl came up to me and said i had played it perfectly and i have a talent for an 11 year old. so i've been playing Trumpet ever since.

It can be difficult, but still taps is a simple enough piece. I guess it would all depend on how much he practiced.
Anyway the reason I picked up a trumpet was because it was a sort of tradition. My dad plays trumpet and so does my uncle. It was natural for me to take up trumpet. By my playing the trumpet I filled in the gap my family was looking for to make the quintet and quartet I am now part of.

In our class you have to do a test thing to be percussion and the tests is that you and the BD each get a pair of drumsticks the BD plays somethng and you mimick. I have NO rythm whatsoever so I did not become a drummer. I then picked the flute cause it sounds cool.

My mom played the clarinet and my brother plays the bassoon. I chose a combination of the two- the oboe- and have luffed it ever since! I'm the only one in the school (I think), so I'm automatically first chair! I'm also last chair though, so that sucks lol.

I was really good at recorder so the people running the chosing thing recomend I play clarinet!!! And so I got Zoey!!! heart And we've been making beautiful (and sometimes a lil squeaky) music together for 5 years!

Well, my flute was my older cousin's (and before that my aunt's), and my mom didn't really want to buy an instrument, so I just kind of got my flute (Sakura). Not that I don't love my flute, I just didn't really choose it. I am planning on buying an instrument on my own, but I can't decide which one.

well originally I wanted to be a drummer. But when we went to go and pick out our instruments my dad told me that there in no way I will ever get the drums so I decided to play the clarinet. Come to find out that my mom had played the clarinet when she was in high school and just never told me. Now that was in the 5th grade and now I am a senior in high school.
Then there was the alto clarinet. I was just starting high school and I decided that I wanted to be different so I chose to play the alto clarinet for about 7 months. I decided that I really didn't like it.
Then the second half of that year I decided I wanted to switch so I started to play the bass clarinet. At first my BD only wanted me to play the clarinet but then we started to do a play and there was a bass clarinet part in it so he asked me to play that. The next year we got a new BD and he only wants me to play the bass clarinet. lol some change.
So now I only play the clarinet for marching band and when ever the music calls for one in plays. And the bass clarinet for every thing else. We played "Fiddler on the Roof" this year and I got to play a duet with one of my bestest clarinet buddies. blaugh

I started out on trombone, because i didn't want to be a wood wind and i could make a decent noise out of it. LoL But my friends thought I was going to pick clarinet or sax.
