Red mages are ok if you want to keep magic to a minimum

I usually have a balanced team, fighter, whitemage, and a black mage.

Nowerdays yes, back then no. Basically in FF1 a ninja is a thief that can also use up to level 4 black magic spells. They are like confuse spells and fira sort of things. the throw ability wasnt introduced until later

Yeah I thought the throw ability was a waste, the magic abilities sounds much better.
Also in Tactics Advance they had special elemental jutsu which did quite low damage but was aimed at inflicting a variety of status effects, they also got the double sword manouver.

Ninjas were effective in tactics advace simply for the double sword ability razz
You may have guessed but the knight is basically a fighter that can use up to level 4 white magic spells which covers stuf like cura and nulblaze

It has its occasional use when wanting to get rid of a few weapons efficiantly but I don't use it much.

9999 is pretty good if you are yet to break the damage barrier but when you compare it to things like my Auron in FFX it doesn't seem that much. He did 80,000-99,999 damage for each physical attack.

Yeah but to be fair Metal FFX took the damage limit to a whole new level.
I was too attached to my items to throw them away.

Thats true but not to the extent of X-2 where you could do 300K+ damage. You can always get spares but I found it a small pain in some of the earlier games where the only good throw items cost 5,000 each.
