Sirius furrowed his brow and chuckled. "What're you, mate, my mother? When've you cared when I haven't gotten in?"

Remus shot Sirius a look that plainly said 'I care when you haven't gotten in after last being seen in the company of a girl you obviously fancy, Padfoot.' "What are you talking about? Unless I'm part of it or-...I've recently been ill and unable to, I always care. It's just on very rare occasions that I'm not a part of it or have recently been ill."

"I think you're clearly overreacting, Moony," he replied, acknowledging Remus's look with one that replied, 'what do you take me for? I'm a perfectly responsible adult... and I treated her like a gentleman.'

It was all too easy. 'Well, therein lies the problem, old friend. You should have been treating her like a lady, idiot. You're the gentleman, unless there's something you'd like to tell me?' He raised one eyebrow teasingly. "I overreact to nothing. I react with perfect appropriateness."

Sirius started laughing. Not at what Remus said, but what Remus meant. "Of course you do. Now, if you must know before you stop grilling me, I was safe despite the fact that I didn't return to my bed. M'kay. You needn't worry about my well-being."

"Yeah," said Marketa seriously, leaning so she could look around Sirius at Remus. "We 'ad only beer and cigarettes!" Her face was set with determination not to even smile.
Remus finally broke his crabby facade and snorted. "Alright, I'm done. You know how a mother worries, though," he said, also putting on a false fluttery and nervous voice to go with it.

"S'okay. I understand, Mum," Sirius rolled his eyes at Marketa, and stuck his tongue out at her for the beer and cigarettes comment.

Mar finally took this opportunity to laugh a little, her eyes twinkling madly. She stuck her tongue out back and poked him in the ribs affectionately.
Remus shook his head. "I'm getting creeped out by this; I think you were destined to be motherless, mate." As am I, a creeping thought emerged, but he banished it with a vengeance, not even letting the thought go anywhere past a brief flicker in his eyes.

"Ha-ha. Well. We both know what my mother is like. I'm too much of a loose canon blood traitor for her tastes. And, well, frankly, I don't mind that she's not that fond of me. But I think I could find a good replacement if I tried..."

"James's mum?" asked Remus immediately, both serious and teasing at the same time.

Wendy, still smiling from the "mother-son" exchange the boys had displayed, waited for Sirius's answer, remembering what he'd said on the train about having run away to James's house.
It was in this brief moment, however, that her family's owl, Mercutio, dropped an envelope next to her plate. She turned simply to verify that it was indeed what she thought it was, then turned back to the conversation, her grin widening.

"Bingo," he said with a wink, unfazed by the owl exchange. "I'm surprised she hasn't officially adopted me, yet. She adores you quite a lot, too, Moony."

Remus felt a lopsided grin forming on his face as a blush crept up. He adored Mrs. Potter too, she was the only mother figure he could really rely on during his adolescance. Then again, she didn't know about his lycanthropy either. "Yeah, well..." he muttered, still grinning as he took a hurried bite of his sandwich to cover up his boyish happiness.

Katherine Benediere sneered at a few first year Gryffindors as she walked into the Great Hall and sat down at the Slytherin table, grabbing a bite to eat. She was getting quite annoyed with the little buggers, and she would probably end up hexing one of them by the end of the day. She had to struggle to control her anger. She didn't want to lose points yet.
Alice sighed as she took a seat down at the Gryffindor table, smiling gently at everyone there. "Hello.." She murmured, not wanting to intrude too much conversation if she wasn't wanted.

Wendy turned away from Remus's adorable lopsided grin to the girl who'd just sat a little away from her. She didn't recognize the girl, but she smiled warmly in welcome. " 'Morning!" she said cheerily to the newcomer.
