Rain had poured down on the island as Lauren trudged through the sandy mud of the island jungle. The warm rain felt and smelled wonderful, making everything buzz around her. Everything seemed at peace during rain. Island plants gorged themselves from the rain that fell from the sky.
Lauren stopped by an old tree to for some shelter as she pulled out a cigarette and pursed it in her muzzle. She had taken up smoking again to relieve some of her current stress in life. It seemed like a good thing at the time and she knew she would regret it anyway but there was no telling how long a guinea pig would live. She might as well enjoy some of life's more hedonistic pleasures once and a while.
Her mother had smoked. Lauren allowed herself some of those memories. How elegant and movie star like she had seemed when she had taken the smoke in; how she used to blow rings out for Lauren to watch and poke at them. Somehow she felt more happy then sad about these thoughts recently. She quietly wondered when that had happened.
Her attention was drawn almost instinctively to a geological feature nearby. There was a huge and strangely familiar drop in the ground. Lauren dropped the half finished cigarette on the ground, stepping on it to insure it was out.
Approaching closer, Lauren realized this was the tunnel made for her and Timothy during the lockout. A huge satisfaction washed over her as she had forgotten this place even existed. "It's still here..." She said in awe as she descended the sinkhole. It wasn't as clean and fresh as before but there it was, a perfect size for Lauren. Mud dripped down onto Lauren's head as she cursed herself for not wearing her hoody. Memories of the lockout flooded her mind. How she drove herself into neglectful starvation and insanity, how she carved that knife and created a bow and arrow from scrap materials, how her and Awen battled the crazed wild boar and left injured but triumphant non-the-less. Had she been relying too much on her humanity lately? It was just during her recent change the mongoose was taking over, and Lauren liked it.
Lauren found a dry spot in the tunnel. Fatigue told her napping would be needed at least until the downpour calmed down. She pulled out another cigarette as she pulled off her wet clothing. Being covered in fur Lauren's thoughts turned towards wondering why she even wore clothing at all. Still, the extra layer added a some human element to her making it easier to remember herself in all the changes that had surrounded her. It also allowed Lauren to feel safer around those she hardly knew as trust of the opposite sex still seemed an alien thing for the girl.
She let in a puff of the cigarette, unsuccessfully trying to create those perfect circles she remembered her mother making before. Perhaps someone could teach her. The feeling of her natural habitat coupled with being clothed only in her own fur felt invigorating. That coupled with the nicotine buzz and some slight frustrations created by not seeing Nita around the duplex as often built up extreme arousal. Lauren fell asleep after personally taking care of that sexual invigoration, a desire created by the hedonistic indulgent of her more feral side. Alone and on a cold damp dirt floor, Lauren slept better than she had for weeks dreaming of tunnels and mongooses.

Lauren The halls of the labs sometimes seemed to go on forever for Lauren. She hated these formalities she was still forced to follow, and that was a huge reason why she was here. Maybe she should of waited to talk to Moreau about her new wishes, she was certain to get what she wanted then. Or at least, that's what she thought. But lately her wants have been picking at her brain too much for Lauren to ignore. So here she was walking with an escort to Sabin's office. This made her more anxious because she barely knew Sabin. Lauren knocked at the door, "Hello, Sa... uh... Mr. Duvert?" She said in a slightly nervous voice. Sabin Sabin had his feet propped up on his desk and a sheaf of papers in his hands that he was looking through. His eyes were scanning the lines of text, sure, but he was fliping through them a bit too quickly to actually be reading them thorougly. There was a smile that fit strangely naturally on Sabin's face. When Lauren entered the room, his eyes darted to the door and he tossed the file onto the table irreverently and shifted positions in his seat, resting his chin on his hands. "Lauren! Fancy seeing you here. What can I do you for?" Sabin piped up enthusiastically. Lauren Lauren was very surprised that Sabin was cheerful to see her. She had expected a monster that she knew would say no to whatever she asked. But he seemed... too chipper to say no. Lauren let out a breath of relief as a smile went across her face. "Well Mr. Duvert... or can I call ya Sabin?" She shifted a bit and put her hands in her pocket. "I have a few things actually. A few ideas I think are ******** brilliant as well as a.... request." Sabin The smile turned bemused at her forthright question. He rolled his shoulders lazily and the smile maintained. "Sure, Lauren." Sabin did enjoy lauding his position over others, particularly the lab techs. He would snap if they forgot the "doctor" superlative, using it as an excuse to launch into a rant about how just because he had a PhD instead of an MD he was still just as real of a doctor as they were.... truth be told, he enjoyed seeing the lower-ranked staffmembers cow to him. He enjoyed the excuse. But with Lauren, a rather fascinating subject in her affinity to the lab and her embrace of the serum gave her points with Sabin. And given his current attitude, he was unshaken by the informality. "Brilliant, eh?" He grinned challengingly. "Well, I'll be the judge of that. But you've got my attention, Madmoiselle." He prodded with an encouraging wave of his hand, splicing in a rare bit of his native language. Lauren Lauren kept her smile as well. It felt like a battle of who could smile more evilly for a bit, but Lauren had a feeling Sabin would win. "Well, first the request... as it could possibly tie in with the idea... or not." She rolled her eyes as she helped herself to a seat. Crap! Should of asked... oh well Lauren thought as she sat in an upright fashion. An obvious air of being uncomforable surrounded her, she knew she was in HIS territory and HIS domain. The animal knew to stay alert and be cautious in order to gain favor to the outsider of her territory. "I've been learning quite a ******** lot lately from Moreau's teachings, as well as from the tutors he has assigned me from time to time." Lauren started, "And well now I'm feeling I need to USE that knowledge. Why else would Moreau teach me? It's clear my help can be of use around here." Lauren nodded, "So... I was wondering if I could have.... a job?" She looked towards Sabin attentively for an answer. Sabin Sabin didn't look twice as she took the extra seat in his office. He didn't seem to regret not having specifically offered, but then again Sabin didn't seem the type to show a great deal of regret regardless of the situation. But he shifted his position again, leaning back in his chair and made himself quite comfortable looking in comparison to Lauren's stiff posture. When her question was posed, he lifted an eyebrow. "A job? Hunh." He tapped his fingers together in thought. She was Moreau's pick subject. He certainly wouldn't have a problem with it. "welllll... that might very well be a possibility." Every record and observation on her attested to her loyalty. And it certainly was an interesting concept.... a subject working for the labs, and not a mockery like Newt. "Was there a particular sort of role that you had in mind..? Do you mean actual work in the labs..? Some sort of liason between the staff and the islanders...?" Sabin seemed surprisingly open minded. Lauren Lauren's eyes widened in surprise as Sabin was going right where she wanted to go next. He also seemed to not be telling her no, which made Lauren noticeably excited. Her tail started to wag in the chair making Lauren have to shift foreward in the seat. She looked as if she was going to pounce Sabin any second now with her obvious excitement. "Well! THAT was where I was going next. You know I would love to be a lab tech, BUT I have this other project as well that I want to see completed. Something I think is needed desperately on the island. Let's face it, this island needs it's subjects to start likeing it here. And it's obvious they are all ******** emo here. There's is no better way to help solve this problem than good old fashion propoganda! And I have several ideas to help this." Sabin "You are not alone in that idea!" Sabin expressed. "People have such a tendency to whine! People do not take for granted what they are being given, despite the situations. Much worse happens to people than being cared for for free for the rest of their lives... being gifted with abilities and senses that most people could never dream of..." Sabin gesticulated to drive in his point. "The labwork is probably less interesting than you imagine. It is mostly a lot of work with microscopes and chemicals. And I do not know how the other lab techs would respond to working with a subject...." he flipped his hand. "Nervous about seing the end results of their work and things like that. But propeganda? Do tell!" Lauren Lauren made a face at the obvious segway in the conversation. So she wasn't going to be a labtech. Man that sucked a**. But he did seem to be going with the other idea and Lauren was fairly certain this could occupy herself until Moreau returned. He would make her labtech then. "Hell, they should be excited to see what happened to me, the little stick of a beaten smelly bum that I used to be turned into a wonder of science. And they call themselves scientist." Lauren huffed a bit in contemplation before carrying on, "Well, for one idea, I think the island needs some way to get information out to everyone on the island. Some means of politics and cultural regulation disguised as entertainment. Everyone has a tv on the island? Why not make the best out of it? Maybe it could start as news, I know there is a newspaper all ready and the labs could attempt to wedge their way into that project. But I think we could also broadcast to the duplexes. Put someone up there spouting information about the benefits of the island, who Moreau saved today, what profound discoveries are being made!" She continued on. "And there could use of this for islanders as well, make them famous on the island. Run small skits, stories, sit-coms. Entertainment that disguises propoganda! That's how they run the mainland!" She sighed a bit knowing that first idea was a bit far fetched, "Alright, I know that may take too much cost to implement. But really how much does it cost to fly in new guards once islanders turn crazy against them?! And it could be done rather low budget as well. Home camecorders... a computer... but I do think broadcasting would be the part of all of this that would eat a the budget too much to implement without Moreau's approval. But I have more ideas and I'm willing to brainstorm if you wish to add." Lauren stopped for a breather to listen to any thoughts Sabin wished to air. Sabin Sabin pursued his lips and scratched his chin. It was an interesting idea. "I'm no broadcast specialist.." Sabin began consideringly. "But perhaps something could be arranged. Most duplexes actually don't have televisions, but there is the one in the common room that is frequented... and arranging for more individual sets might be a possibility. Your program probably wouldn't be so much of a broadcast in the way that radio towers work so much as channeled through the cables directly to the sets. There are also the intercoms, which have tiny screens.... but I don't visualize islanders sitting enrapt staring at the little panel in their walls. And it would be viewed as more invasive than voluntary." He considered again. "it also miht be an intereting counter to the stage that is being built... if you have taken notice of it. I have no doubts considering those organizing it that it will be used for some sort of negative propeganda against the labs. And Richard's newspaper as well. Information channels differnet that give other spins. I do like the idea." "Given the number of cameras already on the island, and the backups that we have to have, recording a program would be simple enough. It's the cost of the televisions in all of the duplexes that would be the consideration... but not impossible." Lauren Lauren smiled as her idea seemed to be brought, "Yeah, the islanders are doing their little thing, it would rock to up the anty! You see most people in America glued to their ******** television and programs. Plus it would make this place seem more like a community. For some god damn reason, everyone seems to think it's some prison." She smiled some more. "Posters are another idea, information about what we are doing and how Moreau's studies are implemented. Even some white lies thrown here and there if ya have to! Pamplets perhaps, or more ways to make this place seemed civilised somehow. Stepping in on their plays perhaps while things become figured out as far as telebroadcasting goes." She stopped to think a bit, "But yeah, I think being a liason between islanders and the labs would be awesome. I'd be willing to take up such a task! Or anything really. God damnit Sabin I'm 18 now and at home I've been working as often as I could since I was 15, then on the streets I worked my a** off to help keep money in for our hive, all be it not always legal. But yeah I want some part in this, NEED some part in all of this that's bigger than a test subject. I'm part human as well remember." Sabin Sabin nodded, listening to her ideas, the smile never leaving his face. But the smile was more friendly than was normally characteristic for the white-haired doctor. "I like your ideas, Lauren. And I'll do what I can on my end to see about getting the televisions installed and a method for recording and subsequent broadcast to the sets. I assume that the programs would be pre-recorded. You might even be able to take a camera around with you in the village... or wherever... and get you a computer and software to do edits. You can bring us the tapes and we can air them. I wouldn't want to risk a live broadcast from the village or else it would possibly put you in danger of having your stage usurped. Additionally... if you want to help with the posters, I wouldn't be opposed to some... decorations..." He smirked. Lauren Lauren nodded, "Alright Sabin! I knew you'd be all for it! I can see that, would hate to have someone come in on the show but hell if their pre recorded we can always cut them out." She made a wince, "Um I only know all of this in theory. I have no clue how to work this s**t. Perhaps I can find someone willing to do so, or teach me at LEAST. I only know the theory because camecorders and computers are pretty useful hot items on the streets. I was into sports in high school, not... computers, well except for the basic uses to talk to friends, use for my iPod, and find information on the internet. Say that could be another idea. We could have an island network type thing!" Lauren got up, "Yeah I will need some help. Any ideas you have we can toss back and forth. Right now, only cheesy things are going around in my mind but I'm sure I can make the island more sellable somehow visually. Moreau pointing at us all going 'We want you!' won't do any good!" She started laughing at this idea. "But thanks Sabin, so guess this is my job now?" The mongoose stood waiting for an answer, not yet receiving a straight one as far as employement went. Sabin Sabin nodded. "You seem eager to learn. I'll tell you what. In the meantime, I'll get an order in for the camera equipment, laptop, and some editing software to have sent to your duplex along with some books and tutorials on how to use the software. My dirty little secret is that I am miserable at learning that sort of stuff. Too oldfashioned, I supposed." He gave her a wink. "But let's take things one step at a time. No promises yet about a local network for the islanders. And if you can find anyone of similar mind to help you out with the filming and editing in the meantime... wonderful." Sabin rose as she did, an old courtesy. "And... I'd say you're hired!" He gave her a wink and a chuckle and reached out to shake her hand. Lauren Lauren shook her paw back, "SWEET! I'll get to work on it as soon as I can. One step at a time huh? Well that's not usually my style but I can try." She laughed a bit, "Going to need to on this huge a** project." Lauren started to leave when she remembered something else, "Oh one more thing... I discovered a tunnel in the woods. One I was dropped into during the lockout. I seem to be at home there, and would like it to be my home away from home.. maybe a large community liveing area for underground dwellers?" She added. "Would be nice to not just be a huge ******** hole in the ground." Sabin Sabin returned the enthusiastic handshake. "It will be a lot of work from the sounds of it - but like you said, there is not a great deal else going on that demands pressing attention. And I think that you're up to the challenge. I should have the materials to you in about a week." He pursued his lips at the inquiry. "So you mean a system of tunnels - reinforced, I mean? Perhaps. I can certainly look into it. There are alrady other specialized duplexes, after all.... though I might reccomend before I start investigating the possibility too intently for you to take a look on the Eastern shore of the island as well as the mountain. There are some cave systems already in the island that might also suit your purposes." And there were already cameras in place in a lot of them. Lauren "I look foreward to it. Will be just like christmas but no puppy." She smiled at the joke, "Love the dog by the way, she amuses me. Any seems to make it easier for people to not be intimidated by me." Lauren made a face at the caves, mongooses didn't live in caves. "Caves don't seem... right." She said, "Perhaps it's instinct but no, sorry I don't like the cave idea, I need tunnels of dirt made by hand. But I suppose I can look into it." Sabin "I'm glad to hear that, Lauren. I heard that Comet was a sweet pup." He nodded. "So you don't want manmade reinforcement to the tunnels? Hrmm... Not sure quite what you're looking for from us in that case. But you have my blessing if you mean you just want to take to them." Lauren Lauren gave Sabin another puzzled look, "******** I have no idea what I want. I think maybe a blend? I mean it doesn't have electricity which sucks, and some floor areas but maybe some raw looking dirt areas? I have no idea because well my head starts hurting whenever I think about this." She held a pawed hand up to her forehead and then ran it through her hair and started fiddling a little with her horns. Sabin He nodded, eyes drawn curiously to her mannerisms and the curved horns for a moment before he drew his focus back to her - still interesting - eyes. "Well, let me know. I think I know what you're getting at, but if you want to work up some ideas I can throw them by Moreau." Lauren She gave him a nod, "Sure thing. I'll leave you to your paperwork then and get started. Thanks Sabin!" She couldn't help herself and before she realised it, she was hugging the man in excitement as she wagged her tail more. Her scent also subsequently rubbed off of on him as if saying 'friend!' She pulled herself back, "Woah! Sorry about that." Lauren gave the man a rather apologetic smile. Sabin Sabin was surprised by the hug, but right now - in the positively soaring mood that he was in, Sabin found himself returning it briefly with a pat to her back before releasing her. Lauren had unwittingly picked an ideal time to approach Sabin with such large-scale project ideas. He shook his head and waved his hand. "Think nothing of it. And best of luck to you!" Lauren Lauren was even happier that he didn't seem to hate the small token of affection, "Good, sometimes I get carried away with that sort of thing, especially when I'm excited about something or meet someone who is friendly towards me." She waved at Sabin as she left the room, "Thanks! I'll need it." So much work to do, but Sabin was right in that Lauren had enough time on her hands to do it. Still she would eventually need to find help from others. She also had a lot of research and talking to do. But now she had a job! A purpose on the island. Something more than an easily catchable lab rat. This made her shine even more. Lauren was so far gone back into her loyalties right now that no doubt was in her mind about the brilliance of Moreau's masterpiece.

[RP: Belated Valentine's Day Picnic-- Gone Wrong] Nita MacNeal Nita woke only a few hours after getting into bed that morning. She kept dreaming of feathers and candy hearts, which always turned out to be chocolate-covered insects instead. However, she woke up in a relatively good mood (mostly because she was relieved not to be dreaming any more). But if anything positive could come from them, it was that Nita realized that the previous day had been Valentine's Day, and she really should do something for Lauren. She got up, showered and dressed quickly, then sat on the edge of the bed prodding Lauren's thin shoulder. "Hey," she said. "Guess what?" Lauren Granger Lauren had been in deep slumber and moaned a little, "Noo.... Just a little longer!' She whined out grumpily. Sometimes it wasn't so easy to get the mongoose up. She sort of came back into consciousness, "Uh... whaa?" She mumbled her eyes still closed and cuddled in the blanket. Nita MacNeal Nita leaned over and gave Lauren a quick hug. "It's after noon already! And!" she announced, "Yesterday was Valentine's Day. I was thinking we could go on a picnic or something." Comet sat at the end of the bed, her tail wagging excitedly. OUT! They could all go OUT! Lauren Granger "Valentines Day?" Lauren asked leaning into the hug, "Picnic?" Lauren's tummy grumbled audibly to the thought of food. She sat up and stretched out opening her muzzle in a yawn. Lauren ended her stretch landing on Nita in a hug, "I'm sorry... I totally blanked out on what day it was and... I didn't get you anything." Lauren licked the side of Nita's face and sat up. "A picnic sounds awesome! Let me get dressed." The unclothed mongoose got up from the bed to throw on some clean clothes and clean up a little bit. She wanted a cigarette so bad that her head hurt from it. Damnit, no time to now. Lauren grabbed some headache pills from the medicine cabinet. Maybe she should quit soon, it was getting annoying and she had no idea why she started it up again in the first place. She did slip the pack in her pants pocket in case she found a time to sneak away from Nita. She thought about how stupid it was to hide it from her, how childish she was being. "Ready." Lauren called as she came over to Nita and gave her a quick smooch. Comet interupted with a whine as to say Can I come too?Nita MacNeal Nita caressed Lauren's cheek with a smile. "Yeah, I didn't remember either, but it's okay. Even without presents or whatever, we can just hang out. Talk." The red panda girl brushed a strand of hair out of her face. "I mean, I know I've been kind of distant lately..." She shrugged. "I hardly even know what you've been up to!" While Lauren dressed, Nita found an old blanket in the back of the closet. "I figure we can run by the cafeteria, get some sandwiches or whatever, and find a nice sunny spot. By the lake, maybe?" Nita grinned at Comet, placing her hands on her hips. "What do you think, should we bring her?" she asked Lauren, teasing. "I don't know if any dogs named Comet like going for walks..." Lauren Granger "Maybe we should talk about some things..." Lauren said "I'm not good at this whole relationship thing and yeah..." She seemed a little guilty about distanceing herself as well. She had noticed Nita's distanceing but also had her own reasons as to why she was pulling away. But she thought it COULD still work out now couldn't it? "The lake sounds nice, would be a very pretty place. I just hope we can find a secluded enough spot." In the mean time Nita's teasing had Comet barking and whineing some more as she paced around in circles. Comet found her leash and brought it to Nita's hands and whined some more. Lauren laughed at all of this, "Hrm... I don't think they do at all." She laughed as she joined in. Nita MacNeal "Yeah," Nita agreed softly, her eyes darkening. However, they could still have fun afternoon, and maybe even get some things straightened out. Nita examined the leash carefully. "Hm.... Is this Comet's leash? I dunno... It could belong to some other dog." The whining got louder, causing Nita to burst into giggles. Clipping the leash to the dog's collar, Nita made for the door. "Shall we?" The three of them strolled along the village paths to the cafeteria, Nita and Lauren chatting idly and amusing themselves by watching Comet frolic along at the end of her leash, snapping at insects and generally being a young dog. In front of the building which housed the cafeteria, Nita tied the leash to a tree-branch. She figured the cafeteria lady wouldn't appreciate a dog inside. The two girls went in together to acquire a selection of picnic-like food. Lauren Granger Lauren kind of made a face at Nita binding Comet to the tree, but didn't say anything. She figured she would let Nita run the show, besides they didn't have the time to look after Comet in the cafeteria. She picked out a few of her favorite things and asked the cafeteria lady if she had any wine back here. It didn't make sense to trudge all the way to the beach bar if they could avoid it. She was in luck that the lady had a nice but cheap fruity red left over from stocking some during valentines day. Lauren happily took that bottle and put it with their stuff. It was getting rather cumbersome to carry on it's own so Lauren asked if she had a bag or basket as well and was also in luck with that. The lady had a basket that she kept some of the desserts in from time to time and was happy to lend Lauren the item. Lauren smooched Nita and as they went back to retrieve Comet and had another nice stroll towards the lake. Comet started to bark at a nearby frog as Lauren was reminded of her encounter with Newt. It seems Comet now had a thing against the amphibians. After some searching Lauren found a nice soft spot in the shade of a large tropical tree, "This seems nice." She said to Nita as she sat the basket down. "What do you think?" Nita MacNeal Nita looked pleased at the choice of wine; it would give the afternoon more of a sense of occasion. And it was a nice day, a little warmer than it had been over the past couple of weeks, and not threatening to rain. She was sure to grab a bunch of napkins, disposable plates and flatware. The spot Lauren picked looked just right. "Awesome," Nita told her. "Help me spread out this blanket?" She let Comet run around without her leash while they got everything set up. Nita flopped onto the blanket, making herself comfortable. She picked a sandwich out of the basket and held it up in a sort of toast. "Cheers," she said. Lauren Granger Lauren flopped down as well holding up her own sandwich, "To love, lust, and greeting cards." She said as she bumped her sandwich into Nita's and then started devouring it hungrily. She took out the plastic glasses and looked at the bottle of wine with a frown. "********! I forgot the cork." She said with a frown. Nita MacNeal "Hell yes," Nita laughed, chowing down on her own sandwich. She leaned over to inspect the wine bottle. "Crap. Screw-top wine is so much easier!" Scratching at the cork with one claw, Nita wondered if that would be at all effective. She inserted her claw into the cork and gave an experimental tug. "Ow," she muttered. "Okay, that was a bad idea." Pulling a couple cans of soda out of the basket, Nita shrugged. "Well, I guess we can save that for later?" She popped the top on one can and settled back. Lauren Granger Lauren nodded, "Guess so... " She had a funny idea, "I wonder if my horns would work! But... we better not try." She reached for the soda can and started drinking from it. Was it a good time to bring up anything right now? Lauren didn't want to bring up anything at a wrong time but was there a right time? It was obvious something was on the girl's mind as she bit into another sandwich. Nita MacNeal Nita laughed. "Only if you could turn your head all the way upside down! And then you might end up with a wine bottle stuck to you." Setting aside her sandwich for a moment, Nita gave Lauren a sidelong glance. Was she okay? She hated to admit it, but Nita knew that she had been so wrapped up in her own troubles that she'd barely been aware of what Lauren might be doing. She poked around in the basket for a bit of fruit. It really was a lovely day... "So," she ventured. "What have you been up to? I mean, I haven't really seen you, except in passing... Anything going on?" Lauren Granger Lauren looked at Nita and started messing with her own fur nervously, "Well, I had hung out with Jordan some, and met up with Sabin with some ideas for the island. I also found the tunnel I had been dropped in during the lockout. It's kind of been where I've spent most of my time, or at least will be until I recieve my equipment from the labs." She picked a bit at some fruit and decided to eat it. It was funny how much fruit was no longer as appealing to her, but it was different. "I had this idea about running an island television station. So that will keep me very busy once I get the equipment. First I have to learn how to work the equipment, it could take months to get up and running. What about you?" Nita MacNeal "Jordan?" Nita asked. "I haven't met him, I don't think. Has he been here for a while?" It was always a bit disconcerting to realize how close Lauren was with the Powers That Be, even being on a first-name basis. Especially because Dr. Duvert- Sabin- had been the source of so much pain and frustration for several of her friends. And while a tunnel didn't seem like a very nice place to Nita, she knew not everyone would appreciate hanging out in trees. Not that she had spent much time at all in the jungle since Annie... No. This was a good day, she told herself. "A television station, huh? That sounds pretty cool. What kind of stuff would you want to air?" Nita shrugged. "Seems like entertainment's a common theme these days. A bunch of people have been building a theatre. That's actually where I've been sometimes. Lauren Granger Lauren shook her head, "Nope he hasn't. He is a nice guy but he got into it with a snake islander, cobra I think? So I helped him out there." Lauren neglected mentioning how she met him by doing Moreau's bidding. Sure she started out being friends with him because it helped Moreau's brain washing but it had become a real friendship now. Few islanders understood the island, and Lauren got the feeling Nita was no longer one of them. "I think news, maybe some form of sitcom. I don't have anything solid planned. Maybe how the island's research is helping the world beyond." Lauren shrugged, "Seems silly huh? Think I can handle it?" Her ears perked when she heard Nita was helping the theatre. "That seems cool. Maybe some people will want to step up from that and star on island tv? Hell I bet I can get you on air if you want to!" Lauren said with a touch of excitement. Lauren nodded at the last of it, "Not much to do is there? How is Miller doing I havn't heard from him in forever. Wish I could of hung out with you then." She pouted at the feeling of exclusion. Miller did seem like a cool guy and put up with Lauren's not so tactful self. He even helped her move. She was genuine in wondering what he was up to. All this time Comet had been chasing frogs from the bank of the pond back into the pond until every frog was hidden. She then took some time to come over and sniff at the food begging quietly for leftovers. Lauren fed her a bit of sandwich and ruffled her hair. Nita MacNeal A cobra guy was probably Thom. Nita hadn't seen him since Halloween or so, but it was nice to know he was still around-- even if he was terrorizing new islanders. And although Nita couldn't know what Lauren was thinking, the mongoose-girl was right about her. "Helping the world beyond," Nita repeated softly, trying not to make a face. Sure, she knew that some people on the island had been legitimately helped, but so many had no real reason to see things that way. "Sure, I bet you can handle it, though," she said, raising her voice a little. Nita went back to her sandwich, finishing the last few bites. "Oh, I don't think I'd want to be on the air! I don't really like being the center of attention like that." She smiled. "Thanks for the offer, though. "Miller... Um, he's doing alright, I think. He's changed since he helped you move in. Right around the time I did, actually. He said he'd been locked out of his duplex for a while because of a prank gone wrong, but he'd stayed with Awen for a few days." She reached over to scritch Comet's ears, shifting her weight to ease the pressure on her tail. Lauren Granger Lauren was starting to feel a little bitchy due to the lack of nicotine. She hadn't had a cigarette all day and it was driving her nuts. She drank on the coke and continued to chew on some food to keep her mouth busy. "Nita, you don't like the labs do you?" Lauren asked straight up, "I can tell, I mean I'm not stupid. Everytime I talk about my life and the labs you seem distance. I don't want you walking on ******** eggshells around me all the time!" Her voice raised a bit in slight anger and irritation. Nita MacNeal Nita's hand dropped away from Comet as she sat straight up, staring at Lauren. She bit her lip, and the blood rushed to her head. The food she had just eaten sat like lead in her stomach. "No. I don't," she said softly. "Lauren, I- I tried." Lauren Granger "Tried?!" The anger was riseing again. "How exactly DID you try?" She couldn't control herself anymore, she saw Nita there and could smell her anxiety riseing. "If you are hideing that, how can I trust you with anything else?!" Her face felt hot and tears were starting to well in her eyes. Lauren stopped for a second before she became more angry and took a deep breath, "Alright I'll come clean about something, I started up smokeing... again. It's stupid I know but I NEED a god damn cigarette right now or else I don't think I can think." And Lauren proceeded to start on just that, pulling the cigarette from the pocket of her shorts and lighting it up, she puffed angrily. Nita MacNeal Nita gulped, definitely starting to feel ill. "Look, I did, okay? I told people it wasn't so bad here, that we were still being taken care of. That it could be so much worse. I went to that dinner with Moreau, and I said I'd try." She spoke softly and quickly, but her words were still clear. Her hands were clasped in her lap, tightly, as if holding on could keep her from falling apart completely. Nita's nose wrinkled involuntarily at the cigarette smoke. "Fine," she muttered. "Maybe if it gives you cancer, this precious research will help them cure it." Whoops. That was out loud. Lauren Granger Lauren's face became harder the more Nita retaliated. "That's NOT what I meant. You didn't TELL me what you were thinking, all this time!" Lauren pressed on, "What else are you hideing!" At the last comment Lauren nearly droped the cigarette as she stared at Nita, her mouth opened but nothing came out at first. Finally she took a puff and blew it into the panda's face, "******** you, ******** this, who knows what else your hideing from me and I don't want to know." She sputtered out, "I mean ******** Nita I don't give a rat's a** if you hate Moreau's guts, I don't care but to hide it... that's just PATHETIC!" Lauren got up and frantically started grabbing some of her things. Nita MacNeal "I didn't tell you because I didn't want to hurt you! Lauren, I tried for you!" Nita protested. "If you only knew some of the s**t I've seen here..." She backed away from the smoke, her eyes watering.. and not just from the cigarette. "What the hell, Lauren, you know damn well you'd have cared if I said anything." Nita's voice cracked dangerously. "But fine, if you're going to be like this, just leave. And don't bother coming back to the duplex, either." Lauren Granger Lauren's eyes were watering as well, and her heart was pumping really hard, "Maybe I don't want to come back. I'd be better off without you trying to dress me up as your little doll of a girlfriend. Well ******** that, I don't want to pretend anymore. I'm a slob, a c**t, and and... ******** YOU I don't WANT to be what you want me to be anymore!" She kicked around some things in anger and threw the unopened wine bottle into the lake. As a side note, she looked at Nita her orange eyes nearly red with rage and tore off the heart necklace from her neck, breaking the delicate chain. That she also threw into the lake. "Come on Comet!" Lauren comanded, but the dog was too frightened of the dangerous angry vibes she was throwing to follow and just whimpered closer to Nita. "Well ******** YOU TOO!" Lauren said tears pouring down her furry cheeks. Nita MacNeal "My doll?" Nita repeated. "What the hell does that even mean?" Tears ran down her cheeks, tracing the dark stripes of fur below her eyes. She winced again at the violence of stuff being thrown around. When Lauren lunged at her, hands to her throat, Nita first though that she was about to be strangled. Her neck stung as the chain was ripped away. Under the fur, there would probably be a welt later. She pulled her knees up to her chest, burying her face. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. But it was, and she knew it was partially her fault. Comet whined pathetically, pressing herself against the huddled up form of Nita. Lauren Granger Lauren too couldn't believe what was happening. Something had been building up for a long time in both of them to fester out like that. Lauren grabbed all the stuff and ran off. She wasn't sure where but she knew she wanted to be somewhere else. "Happy ******** valentines day to you too Nita!" She yelled off as she stomped away. Later would be when everything sunk in and Lauren realised what a t**t she was truely being but for now, she was the victim in a loss of trust and love. And that victim's heart felt like it had been ripped into two and spit upon. No more red headed cunts as girlfriends.. Lauren silently swore to herself. Nita MacNeal Nita couldn't even respond, she was shaking so hard. Happy ******** valentines day to you too, Nita.Great. Just great. She kept her head down as Lauren stormed off with what was left of the picnic. "********," she mumbled into her knees. "******** it all." Next to her, Comet laid her head on Nita's feet and whined.

Miller returned from his little dinner time fiasco, Nita was obviously pissed at him and he needed to sort out what had happened last night. He had grabbed a pen, paper and a little bit of tape along with a feather left around his room untouched still.
He wrote the note quickly, didn't bother signing it, he rolled it up taping it to the feather before moving to the bikini and pack of smokes. He grabbed the latter of the two before heading out the door and making his way to duplex 14.
He left the package there, the bag of smokes half unzipped inviteing Lauren to open it more, the bikini folded up beside it. When Lauren opened the smokes she would find the addition of the feather and the note with a very simple message.
'We need to talk.'

Lauren had moved back into her duplex after that night. She didn't trust herself enough not to do that with another guy, and while it had been extremely difficult she preoccupied herself with her new job on the island. Sure she had started a week later than origionally planned but she was going through books and tutorials at an amazing rate these past couple of days. Not much else to do on the island.
When she got fed up with the Japanese Culture Film tutorial that came with her Final Cut book, Lauren decided to grab some fresh air. Ironically she was also out of smokes and needed a new pack. She had stepped out and saw her bag on the doorstep. She knew she had left it somewhere and it didn't take a genius to realise where. "Mother ********..." She said quietly to herself as she picked it up and looked inside. She found her skimpy bikini, her cigarettes, a lighter... and a note with a feather. A simple message of 'we need to talk' was in there.
Lauren hit her forehead with her paw, "CHRIST!" She cursed out loud. "What the ********, I was TRYING to forget that damnit." She hoped she hadn't created a love bird that would follow her around at her every step. She knew she was good in bed, but she didn't want someone to fall desperately in love with her for it. And that was precisely what she had thought he was going to do. How could she possibly let him down, he obviously was going to be a love sick puppy at her feet. She didn't want that, sure she loved the attention and would probably revel in it once given, but she still didn't WANT that.
She pulled out a cigarette and put it to her muzzle. It tasted slightly of sea salt from the bikini. Lauren rolled the feather around in her claw after she lit up. One blue feather, from a very blue bird. The first guys she had been with since.... but no memories intruded on their fun. It was a good sign.
Still right now, thinking about being with a guy made her slightly ill to her stomach. Even though she had fun that night, it was easier to do and deal with when drunk. Memories dared to rear their ugly heads, transforming the scraps of memory from that night into nightmares from her past.
Lauren's slight ill feeling increased. This was the only good time she ever had with a guy and memories STILL were tainting it. She couldn't tell Miller that. Lauren put her lighter up to the feather and burned it along with the note. She needed to do something to keep this out of her mind now. She went in, threw her bikini in the laundry basket of the already accumulating mess around her duplex, and grabbed the rather large camera to shoot some practice footage. That would help her forget, for the time.
Talking with Miller DID have to be done, but it could wait until later tonight. That is IF she remembered. Right now she had work to do.
