Lord, I have an almost infinite well of patience for cats behaving like cats, but I almost lost it today.
I got woken up this morning by a potted plant landing on my face, courtesy of Clover. Then, when got home after yoga this evening I found that one of the hibiscus plants on the headboard had been knocked to the floor and there was soil all over the headboard, bed and floor.
Stay the hell away from the plants!!! scream

rofl When I got my first cat, she was kept in a room with my mum's plants, thos succelents... The kind with fleshy leaves that looks like mini balls and can drop off easily. Then we left the house to get cat food. My cat then jumped all over the room(I suspect. Claw marks everywhere) and killed my mum's plants. We came back and saw my mum's pot surrounded with those leaves or what ever you call that... and the whole plant was 'bald'!

Oh my god. I'd be so upset if that happened to me. I love my plants almost as much as I love my cats, and while I can tolerate a bit of destruction, I don't like it and I would be very distressed if the cats killed any of my plants. They've already knocked several pieces off my Xmas Cactus and several large leaves off my aloe.
I bet your cat thought it was the greatest thing ever and acted totally innocent though.

I'm honestly surprised it's possible to keep plants and cats in the same house. Ours really don't mind the dirt, but they eat plants, flowers, and have unsuccessfully attempted to nibble a cactus. If we have a vase of flowers on the table, we have to put it in one of the cabinets before bed. If we don't, there will be bite marks, little leaves, and scattered petals on the floor. How do you all manage cats AND plants?

Well, the cats we've had just don't seem to be inclined to eat the plants. I have a few plants in my place and my mum has a veritable jungle in her house, and chewing hasn't really been a frequent problem, though we have had occasional issues with digging, using a pot as a litter box and knocking small plants over.
One of my girls was chewing on the tips of a small palm type plant I had, so I took some of that lemon juice you can buy in a bottle and used my fingers to dab it on the tips of the leaves and that seems to have stopped the chewing.
I guess some cats are just more inclined to attack plants than others, though I imagine with a combination of training and deterrents like citrus sprays, any cat could peaceably co-exist with houseplants.

they find it fun to pluck the leaves... they're thinking like 'oooh... If i bite. . .O_O CAN DROP! ITS FLYING ROUND THE ROOM!!!' the flying part is due to the wind... xd And aren't cats scared of CACTI? ITS SHARP!!

Well, once they poke their noses they're afraid of them, but there's seven cats so by the time they've all poked and attempted to nibble the cactus is long gone anyway. That is, if it isn't knocked on the floor first. rofl Thanks for the lemon juice tip Anlina, I'm going to have to try that next time we have flowers in the house. 3nodding

I was greeted this morning coming out of my bedroom, by 7 wide eyes stares, since I have to lock them( My queens) all out of it or I never get a mins rest they pig the bed and then theres the Luff fest which entails cold wet noses in my eyeball at 2 a.m. or the tunneling under the blanket to get moms toes if she moves. The sight that met my eyes was two folded baskets of clean clothing all over the floor which was now a nest, and a roll of paper towels shredded from one end of the back hall to the other again now a nest.
As if not to be outdone, they Boys have decided to climb my back screen door & play tag on the roof at night, leaping from branch to tin shed roof to car port to garage & back to the house, they discovered they could get on the ledge of moms window & serenade her last night. Because using the cat doors would be too easy to access the Mud room and after all its heated, has food & water as well as litter boxes. Moms window Now theres where all the fun is! We can hang off the screen & the noise of our claws should be somewhat like nails on a chalk board right? Oh joy & rapture to be a cat!

My cat is on the heat (I think that's the word, not sure though). We don't let her near other cats or anything, specially now that she's old and sick (tumors and a big sack of liquid in her belly, it's not very nice to see but she's comfortable).
So now she's meowing all over the house and brushing up against everything (even against the dog O.o ) and I couldn't sleep last night and...
xp
*edit* Plants. Luna likes those. I've tried getting grass for her and leaving it where she can reach it at all times, but I'm guessing she prefers the potted ones.

That made me think of this one time when my cat (A stray that thinks we adopted him! XP) decided to bring over his friends (went through the dog door) and have a party in my house it turns out there last visit was in my room at 7:30 AM. (time I get up) So I wake up there's like 15 cats on top of my bed and I practically peed myself! xD

ahaha, a cat party, that's hilarious.
i tried feeding mitts some greens to introduce fiber in his diet. i got one of those cat grass thingies, but he completely ignored it. the only greens he'll ever eat are bits of catnip.
i'm not a plant person, so i don't have to worry about my cats bullying any household plants. fortunately.

Is hunting by its very nature inhumane? (And I mean inhumane from an ethical stand point, not from a legal one.)
I've taken the hunter and gun safety course, so I could go out and get my hunting license this year(everyone around here hunts), and I do enjoy wild game a great deal.
At the same time, I just joined the Board of Directors at the Humane Society, and I'm debating whether or not it would be inconsistent and hypocritical for me to do both.
It may be a moot point - I'm not sure whether or not I could actually bring myself to kill something, but it's something I have to think about.
And then at the same time, is hunting any worse than eating meat from the grocery store? I'm not prepared to become a vegetarian, and even if I was, I still need to feed my cats meat, and you just don't know how those animals are treated when they are raised and slaughtered.

One of my cats died... crying I get so sad every time one dies. And she was still a kitten too.
We'll in other news, three of my cats are going to have kittens, smile , but kittens right now remind me of Tina, which makes me sad, but getting more kittens makes me happy, o.O, okay, I'm confusing myself now.

::hugs Kay-VW:: I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. ;_; Kittens are wonderful, but no one can replace the cats you lost, so it's normal to feel confused.
