Hello Everyone! Im Kali and I just auditioned and became the 2009 Assistant Drum Major of the Clarksville High School Marching Wildcats!!! I am a freshman this year so I know there will be drama with an underclassman having leadership over juniors and seniors since Ill only be a sophmore so Im preparing now. Im excited though but I have one question, when do I do homework lol? I have to attend all horn line and drum line practices. (Horn + drum line Mondays Wednesdays Fridays 2:30-5:30. Fridays-football games from 5-10pm. Saturdays Competitions from 7am-2am the next day. and then the drum line has extra practices on Mondays, tuesday and thursdays from 6-9pm.) So Ill be at school Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday till 9pm and fridays till 10pm and Saturday until Sunday till 2am.......Whoa.

I was also sort of a sophomore when I became drum major. It was weird, especially right after auditions. People would talk about me (in a bad way) in the hallways, lol. Once the marching season started, though, it didn't matter anymore. You just have to prove you are really the best person for the job. And it doesn't hurt to have a whole bunch of freshmen who look up to you and don't give a care whether you're a sophomore or a senior. Just be patient, they'll come around.

Hello, so I recently made drum major for North Pulaski High School Falcons 2009-2010 marching band, in which i will be a senior Yay!!! At first I was not going to tryout but. . . .after an incident I just had to! I kind of wish that we had a Co-Drum Major since we have well over 100 members in our band, but hey it will be less drama, so I guess i'm kind of glad we don't. I hope I have enough time next year to do my homework. sweatdrop Being vice president and drum major at the same time is going to be a lot of work haha
I wish the best for each new drum major coming in, and I wish you all good luck during your time as a drum major!!!!

What's the point of instruments?
I just made drum major as a junior. I'm the only one. I didn't even audition. And I am scared to death. I just got back from a drum major camp, so I'm hoping that I retain that information as best I can. Any practicing techniques that could help?
Words are a sawed off shotgun.

I'm a sophomore drum major at my school. And I'm only a second year marcher. My director says I have good marching style, and I'm disicplined and whatnot. I'm not really worried about the leading aspect of it. But I'm worried about people not taking me as seriously as they would if I had been marching for like...5 years or so. Any advice?

HELP! i will be a drummajor to a band of about 22 kids. Two years; there were 12 and amazingly, we came in FIRST PLACE for almost everything. Last year, we windled down to 9 and didn't get any trophies. Under new direction that year, everything was messed with and we lost it. My former drummajor [&&best friend/mentor lol] told me that after we had a new teacher [ this was our 5th band director in3 seasons] he was THE WORST. I undersnd COMPLETLEY what she means. The man doesnt even know what a 'rock-step' is and cant march to save his life. Our last show was atrocious: A Tribute to Tim Burton and he wrote the music himself. Last season there was nothing but bad attitudes and DRAMA. I personnally got into a fight myself and quit for the rest of the season. But because we were in desperate need of numbers, they gladly took me back, appointing me the new drummajor. I need advice to help me teach these 5th-11th graders on RESPECT, DISCIPLINE and to PUT UP OR SHUT UP. HELP ME PLEASE!

Teh -Moon Maiden- I'm a sophomore drum major at my school. And I'm only a second year marcher. My director says I have good marching style, and I'm disicplined and whatnot. I'm not really worried about the leading aspect of it. But I'm worried about people not taking me as seriously as they would if I had been marching for like...5 years or so. Any advice? I had the same problem. I got the position of junior drum major when I'd only been in band for a year (I graduated early, so I asked if I could try out early). After auditions, people would talk about me behind my back, including people from my section who had told me I'd be a great drum major. It got a lot better after band camp. By then, you have all the freshmen who like you and you've started to convince the rest of the band you're the right person for the job. That's all it takes really. Are you going to a drum major camp this summer? That helped me a lot. Hungry Hungry Hippie, did you go to Drum Major Academy, with George N. Parks?

I'm not a drum major, although I'm seriously considering trying out next year for my junior year. I just have a quick question for all of you- why did you want to become drum major? Just curious. :]
