Amaya sat lower on the cliffs, a comic in hand as her feet kicked back and forth below her. A few tiny pebbles fell from above onto her pages and she raised a brow, looking up while sheilding her eyes from the sun. There was someone up there...?

A small blur of motion attracting her attention, Greer's sharply focused eyes flicked from the blue on blue horizon to the girl sitting on a ledge below her. She blinked, brain freezing. The mental shift from trying to steel herself against her fears to being all social and nice stalled her speech center for a moment, requiring a random pre-written, rather dumb-sounding cue card to be read instead of a formulated sentence.

"Amaya! What are you doing down there?"

Blinking, she tried to focus on the form above her but the sun kept her from seeing it clearly and only got a shadowed figure. The voice was familiar, though. "Greer?" Amaya rubbed her eyes and looked back down, realizing she wasn't going to be able to see her. "Nothin', reading and thinking... what're you doin' up there?"

"Contemplating flight." Clearly her brain had caught up with current events, since otherwise she probably would have said something to the effect of thinking about throwing herself off the cliff, which probably would have upset the little one. Greer frowned. Spending time with her hawk bit always made her brain a bit muzzy.

"Want to come up and join me? I have news."

"Flight?" Amaya blinked, her eyes widdening as she looked back up at Greer in surprise. "... Alright." Greer had changed, haden't Ambrose said so? She hesitated for a moment, scared of what she might see. Letting out a sigh she placed her comic between her lips, clear of her sharp teeth, and climbed up to meet Greer rather easily.

Greer scooted back from the edge to give Amaya space once she reached the top, doing her best not to look too suprised at how easily the girl scaled the rockface. Wow. Yay for claws, apparently. Sitting carefully, she put her hands behind her back and held her arms at an angle that masked her wings. She'd practiced the gesture in the mirror. The beak and feet would be enough for her young friend's first look at her.

Upon seeing Greer she froze, not sure of how to react. Slowly she got into a comfortable position to sit beside her, taking the comic out of her mouth and letting it lay between her long, clawed fingers. Green eyes couldn't seem to look at her foster-mother, not wanting to stare or scream or cry but... it was hard not to. And she was scared.

Her mouth opened to say something but only a labored breath came out. A few more minutes passed before she finally muttered the only word that seemed to be able to pass her lips. "Well... poop."

Greer chuckled, raising a hand the ruffle Amaya's hair. "Aren't we eloquent today?"

Amaya laughed slightly and finally forced herself to look up at Greer. "Sorry just... scared is all." She looked back down at her lap and brought her JTHM comic over her mouth as she talked. "Cassidy changed too. It just... scared me a lot." Green eyes narrowed slightly in saddness. "'Cause it's gonna happen to everyone..."

Greer put an arm around the girl's shoulders, smiling warmly and hoping she wouldn't be too bothered by the wings that stretched down to her elbow. "That it is, but your change is still a little ways off now. No sense in worrying over things that haven't happened yet." She marveled at herself, amazed how easily she fell into mother-figure mode. The hawk must have decided Amaya was part of her pack. Thank goodness - feeling compelled to chase the girl out of 'her territory' would have killed her.

"Yeah... guess your right." She set her comic aside and fell into Greer, thankful for the comfort. "I've been trying not to think about it but no matter what I do it seems to come into my mind."

Greer rubbed the girl's back, enjoying the role of comforter. It seemed to be easier to deal with someone else's problems instead of her own these days. "What's been bothering you in particular?"

"I dunno. Just... I guess loosing the face I was born with and a piece of what mom and dad looked like with it." She looked up at Greer, now pretty unphased by her new apperance. Changes seemed to be getting easier to deal with. "I already miss looking at the stars and I don't know if being cold-blooded is going to get worse and... I'm rambling."

She smiled sadly, nodding. These worries she understood. "Considering the circumstances we're all in, I think you're entitled. You should have heard the stuff I said to Sean that first day after changing... geez. I have no idea why he was so nice and put up with me, but he did say some very wise things. Ramble all you want little one, but remember that changing on the outside doesn't have to mean changing on the inside. When my hands turn into wings I'll probably lose the ability to do most of the things I love to do, but I'll still be me." Greer tapped Amaya lightly on the nose. "As long as Amaya Vaughan looks out at the world from those emerald eyes, no amount of scales can take anything away you want to keep. And with the power of a good bonfire I bet you could see the stars again."

Amaya listened in silence and smiled once Greer was finished. "Thanks... that makes a lot of sense." She looked up at her and smiled.
