Unless we take the word of Pokemon Live (which I consider non-canon, personally), there is no way to prove or disprove that Gia... Giva... However you spell his name, is Ash's father.

Scathach13 Well, I've got a couple theory's - Prof. Oak - This is more or less impossible, because of a little something called Punit Squares - brown is a domanent gene, and red is rececesive (oak and deliah's hair colors). This means, that he couldn't have gotten the black hair from Deliah, because she has rr hair genes. And black is a more dominant gene than brown, which means that Prof. Oak most likely does not have one. If we belive that genetics has any impact whatsoever (I mean, look at the cerulian sisters?) then this rules out Prof. Oak as his father. Giovony - Possible, and a clasic theory. However, he has never shown any recognition towards Ash or visa versa... And the fact that Deliah knew how long it took Ash's father to get to Viridian City shows that she knew him closly (ie. it couldn't have been rape). And if it was consentual, how did Deliah get involved with him in the first place? There are a lot of clues suggesting it, but there are also a lot of blanks. Lance - WAY. TOO. YOUNG. As far as I know, Lance is about 20, which would mean that he would have had to have Ash when he was a little kid. Also, there's the same problem with the black hair gene as with Prof. Oak. The Guy from The Wave Guiding Hero - Ruriko: There is a HUGE amount of physical evidence and other clues that they are related - however, I'm pretty sure he died a couple hundred years before Ash was born... However, I'm not ruling out reincarnation - but that's a different subject. Some Random Guy - Possible, but considering how much effort the show goes to not mention Ash's father, it wouldn't make a lot of sence. finally! someone explains in logical genetics! surprised , but, alas, in an anime cartoon reality does not apply, this includes genetics. of course if someone in the oak family like a really ancient ancestor had black hair,(highly doubtful!) and all those years it was a recessive gene, ash could have gotten black hair from professor oak. evidence that proffesor oak could be ash's father. but that's just my guess..... sweatdrop stressed

Though with hair, many different genes are involved, one can basically break it down into one set for color in a situation like this. And Black is dominant, no matter what (usually... there are almost always exceptions no matter how wierd in biology), so there's no way Ash could have inherrited it from Oak...
You do make a good point about it being an anime, but what else do we have to go on?

Kira the wanderer Ruff07 If this thread isn't dead then I would add this:Its gotta be Giovanni cuz Ash never seen him face to face before!Of all the Pokemon episodes I watched Ash never ever met him in his life, not even when he got the Earth Badge in Kanto! Of course. Giovanni has to be his dad. Think: -In the episode Ash was supposed to fight Giovanni to get the eigth Gym badge, he suddenly left and he faced off with Jessie/James/Meowth. Yes, while he was in pursuit of Mewtwo it just so happened that the Pokemon escaped when Ash got here. What should the big deal be if he meets Team rocket's leader? He's met other members and high ranking ones too! But never Giovanni.... he doesn't know his dad is the leader of Team Rocket. -Jessis and James have repeatedly tried to get pikachu, and while they have reported in to "the boss" they never once mentioned Ash's name. This means that Giovanni also isn't aware that his underlings are chasing his son, which gives explainationas to why Jessie/James would be allowed to pester the boss's kid! Though others have come into contact with him, they never mentioned his name. -His dad is supposed to be a great trainer. Who else is so great as Giovanni? -His mom doesn't work. She just gardens. And gardens... and so forth. How does she make an income? Simple: Giovanni is a billionare. Very rich, so why should his family have to work? -They look alike. There are many fingers pointing towards this man as his father. Plus, wouldn't it make an awsome plot twist? think about it: The last episode is a show-down between Ash and his evil father, Giovanni! Both fighting for what they believe in, father and son spark in the stunning conclusion! mrgreen You make it sound plausible...Hmmm...

Again, Giavoni is one of the most plausible explanations... However, there is simply no way to prove or disprove it...

Giovanni is Silver's dad. :3 A worker for Team Rocket mention's Giovanni having a red-haired kid in FireRed/LeafGreen.
There are absolutely no fingers pointing towards Giovanni, there never have been. Those 'facts' are nothing other than coincidences. Ash doesn't make money either, how does he afford Pokeballs?
I think SOMEONE would know that Giovanni is Ash's dad, but no one has even hinted at it, not even his own mother.

Now, that's interesting... *perks up* ...And kind of disturbing, in a way. O_o" A cool way, but disturbing non the less. XD As for the issue of money, we aren't ever actually told how it works in the show, but of course, in the game you get it from winning battles... ...But when in the show do they ever actually show him buy a Pokeball? In fact, the whole thing with items... I mean, the only time I ever remember seeing a potion (or was it a high-potion?) was that really early episode with the Squirtle Squad waaaaaaaaay back near the begining of the series.

And I apologize for any flammatory responses about the Lance theory. I have finally come to terms with the amount of fans and that I am no longer one alone but a part of many. Random person: I think Lance is hot... Me: DIEEEEEEEE YOU BUGGGER THAT'S MY BF!!! See? Perfectly at ease with other fans! (seriously though, I have resolved my issues, so uhm yeah... if anyone was hiding a Lance theory 'cause they saw me post, it's okay to post it now... ^^; [as if anyone would hide from me ]) I'm starting to think the PokeGod or Pokemorphing is a very plausible idea. And genetics is withheld in ANY anime.

OMFG! if it's boss rocket every thing will ceass to exist. I can not see boss rocket being ash's dad. I got a theroy that can support that. in the movie Mewtwo strikes back giovanna and ash meet for the first time but brief and there is no evidence to show any connection to a relationship. Lance can't be ash's dad cause they meet a few times. There is no evidence showing any trace to ash's dad ever having any thing to do with the show. Maybe at the series finaly ash might get to see his dad and the truth be told. Maybe his dad is not alive anymore.

I also believed Ash's dad could be dead. But I'm sure that whenever they reference him, its not normally like you do when you talk about someone dead. Not past tense but... Hmm... I can't seemed to find an example.

Zarka Killerfog I'm not sure but I've heard that in one of the Pokemon CD dramas Delia and Giovanni date as teens. That has to be a clue!!! Ash and Gary both have the same age! [ What I mean is, GARY is SO NOT Ash's dad. ]
I guess it's Giovanni. Heard it from rumors. ^.^
Prof. Oak? Impossible.
Maybe he's dad's gone or something...

Miss Mew I always wonder why they never talk about Ash's dad. I wish we can know some stuff about him confused . Not relevant to the plotline.
