Jane kept silent through Luke's coughing fit. She silently fell behind to watch the rear of the group. Wink was more worried about his brother than whoever was following them. Shade looked over Jane's shoulder and wispered. "It's the girl from earlier. The one with the wolf deamon."
"Really? Does Luke have a stalker?" Jane joked.
"This isn't the time for that." Shade replied.
"I know."
She set Shade down and told him, "Tell their deamon's who's following us." Shade ran up to the panter and ferret and told them the news.

Dani and Arba both stopped at the sudden outburst of coughing that echoed through the streets that had been all but silent a moment before. They looked at each other, puzzled. Both were wondering who was coughing, and why. After a few seconds, the coughing grew more distant.

"Come on," whispered Dani, taking the lead. "They're still moving." Arba followed silently along beside her, never going more than a foot away from her side as they made their way down the alley.

"We're going to need to turn soon." Arba's soft voice broke the repetitive noise of coughing, and was so unexpected, it made Dani jump a bit. Swearing, she realized he was right. The alley ended soon, and their only options would be to turn around and go home, or turn and emerge on the street the others were traveling down.

Walter's carefully expressionless face relaxed. "It's someone you know?" He closed his eyes, allowing his profound relief to show. "Then we have a little more time." He gently removed Luke from across his shoulders, propping him up against a building. Alirialie came up and deposited Rhynall on the boys shuddering chest. Walter put a steadying hand on Luke's shoulder. "Cough all you need to, Luke," he murmured, his voice soothing. Alirialie, however, showed Walter's real state of mind, pacing back and fourth with long, gracefully silent strides, and throwing occasional glances back the way they had come.

Shade looked at Alirialie, then where Wink and Luke stood. He then trotted over to Jane. "I think we should tell our followers to come on out."
"Yeah?"
"Wink would rather them in his sight then in the shadows. Expesially with the murders going on."
"Ok..." Jane followed Shade to the ally and found the girl and her wolf deamon standing there. "It's a better idea to come on out then to stay in the shadows," she stated leaning against the wall of the ally.

Luke's coughing had started to ease a little when Walter took him down from his shoulders but his hand was slick with bright blood. He was still coughing, but he was exhausted and didn't have the energy to cough as hard as he needed to.

Feeling Rhynll on his chest, Luke wrapped an arm around his daemon as he climbed up to his shoulder and licked his cheek comforting. "Just breath," his daemon whispered softly in his ear. "It's better this way, it's out in the open, you don't need to hide it."

Luke tilted his to nuzzle Rhynll, before he started coughing once more. It was easing though, either that or he simply didn't have the strength to do much more.

"We need to keep going," Luke gasped to Walter. "What if... what if father finds us? He'll recognise the cough."

Rayne looked at the boys, a worried expression on her face. "i think what he has is an illness called.. Tuberculosis, or TB. its usually fatal if not treated before it gets out of hand." she watched 'james' disappearing off to the girl ember had spotted earlier. she stroked the feathers of her daemon sadly. "well, we should probably get going before someone else comes along.. or before that strange man catches up with us. he has a weird aura about him, and i dont like it." she looked at the ill boy as he mentioned his father, but put it from her mind for the moment.

Walter's heartbeat picked up again, but all he said was, "Let me worry about that." He looked back to Luke; the boy's cough seemed to be easing up. "Can you get up?"

Alirialie's pacing had increased in speed, and she was throwing glances behind her about every ten seconds. Suddenly she froze, and whispered, "Well, if you're going to be the one to worry about it, start worrying."

Walter blinked at her distractedly. "Aliri, what does that-" He broke off, his eyes widening slightly with sudden understanding, and turned to look back the way they'd come. His breath caught in a chest that was suddenly full of fluttering panic. An enormous bear of a man was standing at the entrance to the side street, leaning heavily on the wall of a building. It was too dark to see his face, but Walter didn't need to. "Oh."

((I really don't know how the dad is supposed to be when he's drunk, so if you (keshi) want to take over, at least until I get an idea, that would be great.))

((a bit of useless info, TB was known as consuption in the 1800s cause it consumed the body from within, and sometimes victims were accused of being vampires XD I love useless facts.
He's basically a violent arrogant p***k, maybe a bit crude if the opportunity arises for amusement lol. You're welcome to play him as well))

Rayne's suspicion merely confirmed much of Luke's suspicions but it didn't really sink in at that point that it could be fatal; right now it was just a painful annoyance.

He nodded to Walter's question and, bracing himself against the wall, managed to stand up. His legs felt weak and shakey but they held him and he definately felt light headed but he could cope. "I'll be fine," he said softly.

Well he thought that until he followed both Alirialie and Walter's gaze back the way they came and his eyes widened in alarm, feeling as though his heart leapt suddenly to his throat.

"What in hells do you think yer doin' out here, eh?" the man shouted, his voice obviously slurred. "Get home now! Both of yer! Before there's nothin' left of yer bodies but a bloody heap!" The man's white pitbull daemon had its hackles raised, teeth bared as it growled at them. Rhynll bore many a scar from those teeth.

Luke pressed himself harder against the wall, Rhynll on his shoulder had his fur standing on end and was shivering. He knew thier father didn't make empty threats, especially when it came to violence, but he couldn't move.

Arba nipped at Dani's hand and gestured to the turn-off. "Someone's coming." Dani nodded and fell behind her daemon, looking around for any kind of advantage she could use in a fight. For his part, Arba had raised the hairs along his back, making his body seem larger than it was. His lips were drawn back in a silent snarl, and his tail was held out erect behind him.

When the stranger and his daemon turned the corner, the other pair came to a standstill. As the boy leaned against the wall, Arba began to relax, his fur settling down along his spine. Dani, however, stayed alert, eyeing the boy warily. "Who are you?"

"James. Now are you going to come out of the shadows or am I going to have to drag you?" Jane was getting annoyed, but she was not going to lose her temper. Not if I can help it.
Shade sat silently near her legs, a living shadow.

Walter got to his feet, his expression one of frosty politeness. Alirialie stood calmly by his side, the only sign of her aggitation the twitching of her long tail. "Hello again, Father," he said smoothly, "I'm terribly sorry to bring this up now, but you haven't had any say over what I do for some time now. As for Luke, I'm taking him to a doctor. He's very ill."

Dani opened her mouth to argue with James, but Arba leaned heavily against her leg, warning her against it. Shooting him a glare, she strode forward and turned towards the street the rest of the group was on. "Fine." Arba shot James an apologetic look, and followed the girl down the street. He wondered briefly if he should mention the traces of blood in the air, but decided against it. Hopefully, they would get to the bottom of all this soon.

The pair emerged on the street and froze, looking to the sides. On their left, a young man stood with a panther daemon, a look of cold fury adorning his face. On the right, a bear of a man stood, obviously intoxicated, his pitbull daemon growling. Arba instinctively showed his own teeth, shifting his feet anxiously from side to side. Dani looked back and forth between the two groups, wondering what on Earth was going on, and if she would have done better to take Arba's advice and stay inside the house.

Jane followed the girl out and walked over to where Luke stood aganst the wall. She eyed the man and the pitbull daemon. Shade rinkled his nose at the two. "They reek of alchol," he stated, his own hackles standing up.

Luke's eyes darted from his father to Walter when he spoke. "Don't antagonize him," he whispered desperately, his fear evident in his voice. Luke had learnt from experience that it was usually best just to shut up and take whatever was coming, it was usually less that way.

Their father smirked, hearing Luke's words. "You'd best listen to yer brother," he said, sneering, as he approached ready to make good his threat. "Reguardless o' where you been for the las' free years yer still my son an' will do wha' I say!" he said as he strode forward and rose a hand to strike his eldest son while Luke flinched away from him, not wanting to watch while the violence began again, and infront of their new friends this time.

Walter sidestepped the blow neatly. "James," he began conversationally without taking his eyes off of his father, "Could you do me a favor, please? Take Luke and Ryane to the the place we discussed." He tossed a small bag of money over his shoulder. "That should be enough. I'll catch up." Ryane could probably take care of herself, but Luke was less likely to put up a fuss if he felt like he wasn't the only one being protected.
