-DamiLoki- My favorite Black Metal band has to be Gorgoroth. m/ Dani Filth is one of the greatest writers EVER. Satyricon and DarkThrone kick a** as well! Satyricon and Darkthrone kick an insane amount of a**. But I must tell you, Cradle Of Filth are goth metal, not black metal.

Could anyone recommend me some good, melodic, epic, symphonic black metal? I've been listening to lots of Viking stuff, like Equilibirium, any other bands like that that apparently have some ties to black metal, and I enjoy them. I'm not looking for stuff that sounds too mindless, please. (I use the word "mindless", because I'm used to listening to mostly power metal, so for me most black metal sounds pretty mindless)

Not symphonic/epic, but Catamenia are good melodic black metal. Albums like Eskhata, Morning Crimson, Winternight Tradgedies.. ********, all their albums are good.
Old Man's Child.
Tvangeste.
Dimmu Borgirs last three albums.
Rotting Christ's Sanctus Diavolos, and A Dead Poem albums.
Thats a few..

Ive always classified Goth Metal to things like, Moonspell, Christian Death, and Celtic Frost, not Cradle of Filth, They're always classified as Black Metal when I see them.

I_N_F_L_A_M_E_S heart i got Old Man's Child's "Vermin" for Christmas. DamiLoki - Yeah they are often classified black metal, but I just don't think they fit it at all, considering just their general image and things they do (maybe not their early early days), and their lyric content and really, the music itself. It's just not dark in the way black metal quite is, it's like some other kind of darkness to the music. It's very much in that supernatural, witchcraft, horror kind of way.

DamiLoki's perspective on OMC and Black Metal is VERY interesting. i completely agree with it, now that he could put my thoughts into words-- but now what the hell do i categorize them under? supernatural/witchcraft/horrific metal? domokun

(I posted this) Black Metal Ist Krieg DamiLoki - Yeah they are often classified black metal, but I just don't think they fit it at all, considering just their general image and things they do (maybe not their early early days), and their lyric content and really, the music itself. I was addressing DamiLoki about Cradle Of Filth in that post. But on OMC, it's hard because you can say both that they are black metal with death elements, or death metal with black elements. It's like, 50/50 between black and death, really. Galder himself was actually pretty highly influenced by death metal as a teenager. About the 'different kinds of darkness' .. well really, I couldn't start categorizing what kinds of darkness there is, it's all just darkness in general. I think what I'm trying to explain is the sound, and something you can associate their sound with (be the association to magic, life, a kind of person, a holiday, whatever..). Alot of metal is dark, it's not just black metal. I was just trying to associate it with something more 'goth-like', to explain sort of why I don't think the sound fits. But it's because of this that I think I've sorta got the ability to explain a bands sound to someone a bit easier. But it's all personal I guess, explaining their sound might lead me to think of an ancient civilization, and that's more of my personal vision and images the music conveys to me, not to everyone else.

Black Metal Ist Krieg Yeah, I guess I don't mind a little CoF here and there. Not my favourite though. mmm... theres some stuff by them that kind of all sounds the same to me, like it gets really repetative. but on the other hand, songs like "Better to Reign in Hell" "Serpent Tounge" "Coffin Fodder" and "Her Ghost in the Fog"... i could never get tired of those smile

Symphonic Black Metal from up North (quebec) you must like it. Check out their website or myspace. www.obscurcis.com ou http://www.myspace.com/obscurcis

I downloaded the two songs on their Myspace, and they sound really cool when they get to the fast parts in the songs. I also like their Keyboarding. I listened to some Tvangeste, and they kick lots of a**, and I'm starting to get into Summoning. Cool stuff.

TheGreatSephiroth Yah Black Metal is cool I just don't like the excessive use of Satan, goodness I am roman catholic and it pains me to se someone who has some much musical talent sing about satan. One thing Satan doesn't like anyone! why is it that christians pray for sinners but they never pray for the biggest sinner of all, the one who directly defied god and most surely needs their held and gods forgiveness? why do you people never pray for satan, when you make a big deal about trying to help save sinners' souls?
