Edi Nippoli .[FoxBoy~DigiMatt]. Vickicat ...and soon we might see posts full of stupid asterisks. Well, I dun know if that's an entirely bad thing, really. How many posts full of cuss words do you wanna read? i.e. Narutard rants, 1337 gmrz smash talk, unintelligable pre-teens preaching gay rights, and unintelligable right-wingers praising Bush as if he were God incarnate. It's more about free speech. You don't have to go into a thread talking about how great and wonderful Bush is if you don't want to. You don't have to acknowledge the Narutards or 1337 speakers either. Personally, I just find it puzzling that they'd choose to censor just this one word? There are millions of more offensive words out there. They didn't particularly do it, the advertisers and watch dogs did. I bet we can thank Dateline for it, really.

Why in the hell would you stop donating JUST because they're making a statement against something?

Kiss in Digital Vickicat I'm so mad at Gaia. And no, not because of the sponsors or the stuff that has to be bought with cash. That's annoying but I know they have to pay their workers. I'm mad because Gaia has resorted to censoring us now. No more optional word filter. As far as I know it's only one word, but since I don't know for sure that there aren't others, it makes me pretty mad. And if they decided to censor one word, then they may not stop at that word and soon we might see posts full of stupid asterisks. It just feels like Gaia is becoming more and more like the other sites out there that are geared towards younger age groups. They censored pe-do because of the watchdogging going on all around the internet now. I'm not pleased that they did it, but they did it cos they have to and it IS only one word. If they've let us go this long saying ********, c**t, a**, sex, masturbation and everything else - as is the rest of society - I really think that's where it'll stop. Livejournal had to do it, and MySpace & FaceBook are under intense pressure to follow suit. It DOES seem stupid but I'm hoping if we really do put the squeeze on these sickos, we can protect the kids.

The big-wigs that want things that are seemingly harmless as a word to be censored are the ones who think it will "protect". The rest of us know it doesn't protect didley squat. Censoring it is simply keeping from lawsuits and red-tape, etc. Precautionary to protect the site more than the kiddies using the site.
It may not be protecting anybody, but it isn't harming anyone, either. If someone sees "*****" and they want to know what it is, just hit the "quote" button.
Think of it as an umbrella. An umbrella protects from the rain. But rain in and of itself isn't going to kill us. Those people under the umbrella who don't want to get wet, won't get wet. And of those who want to get wet and don't wish to be under the umbrella? It won't hurt them to not get wet, either.(for arguement's sake, pretend it's an umbrella you can't get away from, like censoring you can't turn off)

I do virus I can't get rid of or what exactly, but I keep getting logged off gaia if I don't post for like, two minutes. Grr.
Ever since we got our 'new' computer it's been getting covered in viruses. I don't know what's going on with it. Never had this much trouble before.

@ Censoring: For some reason it censors my PMs more than the forums. Which I don't understand.

Well I got rid of the viruses. Finally. Loaded up a old anti-virus program we used to use. Maybe Symantex AntiVirus sucks?
