Doing it way more frequent...i'm afraid to use recovery disks because the comp might cut out in the middle of the restoration...

Well you should give it a go with the recovery disks anyway. If it shuts down in the middle of the recovery process it's a hardware issue and you'll have to send to pc to HP anyway to have them replace parts in it and they'll just repair your windows install while they're at it. If it doesn't, and the shut downs don't happen anymore, it was a software issue.
Though honestly I'm still sure it's just a virus that fuxed your registry.

Do HP or repair places have a privacy policy regarding computer content? I have some emulators, you see, and a few other pirated things.
Like RPG Maker VX, say.

I'm pretty sure they do. Because they probably get a lot of computers with stuff like pornography obviously and personal photos/journals and whatnot. They're probably like a doctor's office with the confidentiality stuff.
Also you could probably hit up like a Best Buy or something in your town that has a computer repair team present. If it's still under warranty they should repair it and report it as a warranty repair to HP for you.

I'm still afraid to take it in with all my emulator s**t...and the hardware for hp is under warranty still. Office Depot's repair team might work except its a one time deal and costs as much as bought software warranty from Microsoft most likely.
So pretty much my best bet is using up a precious system restore on this damn problem...
To be clear, I want Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot on my comp after the restore for protection. Good idea or not? What do you suggest I do?

Yeah having antivirus and antispyware software is definitely a good idea. Downloading stuff from the internet without at least antivirus is dangerous business.
I recommend Avast. It's free for home usage and unlike most antivirus programs it doesn't eat memory while running in the background. I've been using it for years.

I want something for anti virus and one for anti spyware, so I got spybot and essentials. I have tons of memory anyways...
And I don't think the computer will refrain from randomly shutting down only because the restore disks are trying to run, so i'm still fearful of using them. If the computer shuts down in the middle of those, what will I do then?

Frankly put: It'll corrupt the s**t out of windows.
However, that can still be fixed with the repair disks after you fix the hardware issue.

Daisuke, I think Virgil-kun meant memory as in RAM... not HDD memory. . . unless you meant RAM, then my bad. gonk
EDIT: OR I could be wrong. I am sorta computer retarded. whee
Virgil-kun, I have a feeling the Neida and Sakuya will be rivals. xd

What'll corrupt windows? Essentials and spybot at same time? Or the lost recovery?

@Keeper: Why so? And yes I did mean RAM and not HDD~
@Demon: The failed recovery. Namely because you'll have even more broken/incomplete/missing system files.
@Taigaa: Offers steak in exchange for no mauling.
