"Uhm..." Donovan nearly twitched at the sight at the thing.
He didn't know what was more embarassing seeing his daughter cart around a miniture size him, or to see Kara hug it at night sometimes. Both Kara and Lin really liked that doll.
"Yes."

Lin smiled, "That's my Van dolly! He needs company though, " she told her daddy seriously, "Maybe we can get him someone to be with him... like... someone who looks a lot like Mommy?"

Earendil chuckled. "Wouldn't that be nice," he commented. He took a quick glance around the room. "Anything else?" he asked Lin, knowing that only she would know if there was anything else she might be leaving behind.

Lin shook her head, "I put things away in there, and now my dollies are there so that's it!"
She pouted a bit, partly because she didn't want to go. She was having so much fun, but her daddy was ready to go back and she would have to go home.

Earendil knew what that pout was for, and he couldn't help but laugh a bit at it.
"When you first came and we said you had to go home," he told her with a grin, leaving the room and starting down the hall with them following, "you pouted and said you were going to wait here until Daddy came back. Now he's here, and it's time for you to go. I'd like for you to stay longer too but that's just not possible."
He reached over and ruffled her hair affectionately. "Besides, I'm sure you'll be back to visit me, won't you?"

"Of course I will!" Lin replied back.
Though she was not all that aware of the time difference that distanced the worlds between them.
She then added, "And someday up the mountain I'll go."

Donovan chuckled at that, though he felt sort of sorry for Lin, seeing as the next time she would probably ever be allowed back, knowing how the time went. Earendil might be already with a girlfriend if he didn't have a family yet, and if not any of those at least with responsiblity.
"We'll see," he murmured.
Of course he was coming back but it would be easier for him to use the Borderlands rather than the castle.

Earendil smiled as he led them down the stairs.
"It's going to be a long time here, though, isn't it?" he murmured. "As long as it was since the last time anyone was here, probably ..."
And it had been thirteen years since his aunt had been there. Would he have to wait that long to see anyone from that world again?

"Probably," Donovan replied, "The time difference is extreme to say the least. It can't be helped, time passes so slowly in our world."
He had to admit that, it would be many years if not more. After all it wasn't like a reason dropped into their laps for a reason to go.

"Aww..." Lin pouted at the thought of it being a very long time since she would be able to visit, she would be so old by then! "As long as no one forgets me," she murmured.

"No one could ever forget you," Earendil grinned, poking her nose.
They reached the bottom of the stairs, and he led them down the hall towards his grandmother's study. She wouldn't be in there, of course, but that was the way to the labyrinth's main entrance. He had taken Lin and Nina through the walls, of course, so they wouldn't have been this way before - but he didn't know if it would be a good idea to show off the many ways through the walls to everyone. After all, they were supposed to be secret.

"Even if it was a very very very very long time?" Lin asked as she hung nearly off of her father's arms wanting to see which way he was leading them this time.
She had always been interested in the maze, she liked being down there even though she was so small and to most it would be kind of scary to be down there.

"Even if it's a very very very very very ... very long time!" Earendil laughed. "We elves don't grow old, Lin, and we have very good memories. You spend a lot of time with Sir Valdemar - you know he's the oldest of our kind, and he remembers everything!"
He raised one hand and pointed it at the door. His hand glowed blue, and the door opened silently: then he lowered his hand and led the others through.
"Ah," he smiled, "but if it's going to be a while for you, then let me give you something ..."

"Where does he store it all?" Lin asked.
Quite literary because she could not imagine anyone being able to remember so much. Maybe he kept diaries or something, who knew? She blinked though as it clicked in that he was suggesting to give her something.
"But it's all sudden," she protested.

"You having to leave was sudden, too," Earendil agreed. He didn't slow his pace, but continued to walk.
As he walked, he held one hand in front of him, positioning the other just above it. A blue fire appeared, glowing like lightning, and just as it had the day they had played 'Stalking' in the labyrinth, it twisted itself into the shape of a five-petaled flower. It solidified in that shape, and cooled, and he turned around and held it out for Lin to take.
