Hi, i'm new! =) I play all of the saxophones, but I am currently taking the Bari in school, I just love playing with the lower brass smile Anywho, i've also played the clarinet and Cornet <--(SP) and I have taken piano for about 4 years. Just one more, but I am planning on taking Guitar lessons in about a year. I love my woodwinds though! blaugh

I play the alto and tenor, although it seems as of late I've dropped the tenor. I march with alto and play it in wind ensemble and jazz band, so now I'm kinda poking around for an opportunity to break out the ol' tenor.
In an effort to make some conversation, anybody here into improving in jazz band? It's my absolute favorite way to play, but being second alto sucks, as it means I get no solos ever, ever. Next year the alto one will be graduation, guaranteeing his spot will be handed over to me. I'm pretty excited; yazz band is my favorite whee

I do enjoy a bari solo, myself sometimes.
I find that a great bari solo kicks the a** of a great alto or tenor solo anyday. Sometimes a soprano solo might rival it, it just has to be a good sopranoist. I find that the novelty of an impressive player on the low end really inviorates a crowd.

i play tenor primarily and i'm playing bari in the jv band to get used to using more air. when i started i had an aweful sound cause i couldn't support my air. and the bari forces you to do that. but before i played sax i played clarinet. i miss it sometimes (like atucally having MELODY at points in a song.)

Purple Soap In an effort to make some conversation, anybody here into improving in jazz band? It's my absolute favorite way to play, but being second alto sucks, as it means I get no solos ever, ever. Next year the alto one will be graduation, guaranteeing his spot will be handed over to me. I'm pretty excited; yazz band is my favorite whee I know exactly how you feel. I'm way better than our first alto, but he's a senior so heaven forbid I play 1st and he doesn't. He never practices and he can't play the solos right at all. I can't wait 'till next year. domokun Kawii_Tenshi I play the Alto saxophone. I started playing in 6th grade and now I'm in 8th mrgreen I want to play in highschool as well. Is it hard? It all depends on how good the high school is and how good the middle school is. My middle school was pretty mediocre and my high school is pretty good, so being in a good band took a little getting used to but I was over it before 2nd semester freshman year. If you're in a really good middle school, though, it shouldn't be too bad.

our school doesn't even have a jazz band. And we have a lot of good players for one too...guess it's cuz our school's only been around 4 years now. Hope they start one up before I graduate.
