Washington Bullets defeatin' Philadelphia 76ers--1978 Eastern Conference Finals  Buoyed by coach d**k Motta's mantra, "The opera ain't over 'til the fat lady sings," Bullets {44-38}, after rallyin' to knock off San Antonio (52-30) in conference semifinals, eliminated powerful Philadelphia (55-27) in 6 games to reach NBA Finals. From there Elvin Hayes n' Co. beat Sonics to become NBA champion with fewest regular-season victories.

Chicago Bulls defeatin' New York Knickerbockers--1989 Eastern Conference Semifinals  After Michael Jordan hit his famous foul-line jumper (complete with fist-pump celebration) to lead 6th-seeded Bulls past Cleveland, Bulls were rewarded with a 2nd-round series against John Starks, Patrick Ewing n' rest of 2nd-seeded Knicks. Bulls jumped to a 3-1 series lead n' came back from a loss in Game 5 to win series in 6. They lost to Bad Boys of Detroit in conference finals.

 Baron Davis was main reason why Warriors became 1st No. 8 seed to win a best-of-7 series. Explosive point guard averaged 25 points against Mavs, shootin' 54 percent from field n' 45.5 percent from 3-point range. He scored 20 points in series-clinchin' Game 6 victory despite limpin' around on an injured hamstring.

 Jason Richardson, playin' in 1st playoff series of his 6-year career, averaged 19.5 points n' 6.8 rebounds in 6 games. He made 15 of Warriors' 62 3-pointers.

 Coach Don Nelson, shown here with Baron Davis, guided Warriors to a 9-1 finish just to make playoffs on final day of regular season. Nelson topped that in 1st round by tormentin' a Mavs team he coached for 8 seasons.

 Warriors relied on a small-ball style to upend Mavs, but Andris Biedrins, 1 true big man in their rotation, was a significant factor in series. He recorded 2 double-doubles, includin' a 12-point, 12-rebound performance in Game 6.

 Dirk Nowitzki was unable to exploit his size advantage against Warriors, who relied on their quickness n' an assortment of double teams to stifle Mavs' star 7-footer. Nowitzki capped his disappointin' series with a 2-for-13 shootin' effort in Game 6.

 Stephen Jackson had an eventful series. When he managed to stay on court--he was ejected from 2 games--he made big shot after big shot. He picked up slack for an ailin' Baron Davis in Game 6, hittin' 7-of-8 3-pointers n' finishin' with 33 points.

 Warriors put clamps on Devin Harris n' his teammates, limitin' Mavs to 42.3 percent shootin' in series. Dallas had shot 46.7 percent durin' regular season.

 Jason Terry had a decent series offensively, but he n' Mavs' other perimeter defenders had no answer for Baron Davis, who expertly orchestrated a Warriors offense that averaged 105.2 points on 46.4 percent shootin'.

 Owner Mark Cuban said he doesn't foresee ''blowing anything up'' after his 67-win Mavs failed to get out of 1st round in defense of their Western Conference title.
