A hint of surprise formed when the other mentioned he was kind of jealous of the elf's childhood. It sounded like they had no happy one for sure. Ayluin actually felt a little bad for the drow. Some of his fondest memories were from when he was still a child. But he also didn't see why anyone would be jealous of him. Stuck in a castle all day unless you visit the city or town heavily guarded, never truly alone except in your room though guards always stood outside the room at the door. But since Ayluin didn't tell the man what he was, and didn't really plan to at the present time, he didn't blame the drow for being jealous of a playful childhood when their's wasn't. Of course Ayluin could only assume here. "It doesn't sound like you had a fun childhood, if not I am sorry to hear. Every child should be allowed to play." he spoke as they walked to the cafe. Ayluin had been there before and he did enjoy it. So he looked forward to hanging out there a bit. Not to mention a warm drink sounded pretty good now.

While they walked, Ayluin looked at the man as he spoke, listening to them as they explained what was up. The elf had not realized that the other was quite on the older spectrum of life, but now he knew it made sense. He had seen it so often with humans and other races back home. Old age caused them all sorts of problems. "That sounds terrible." he said when the man finished and Ayluin made sure he wouldn't let them walk to fast. There was no real hurry he thought at that moment. Once they walked a bit easier, Ayluin also felt a bit more at ease and his smile returned to his face as they wandered the street to the cafe. Though they sure had an odd way of making their direction to the place. At first Ayluin followed suit, thinking they might know a faster route, but he soon realized it was just how they went about it so he remind more next to the other after. Then again it wasn't to surprising now he learned how the light hurt their eyes. Of course his instinct was to keep to shadows.

It became more evident once more when they entered the cafe and the other shielded his eyes from the light. For Ayluin it wasn't a big transit, but it seemed to genuinely hurt the drow. When they got to the counter he was just about to take his wallet from his back pocket when he heard what the man said. It surprised him a bit, but then he smiled. "Thank you." he said and chuckled at the joke, or at least he thought they were joking. "I don't think I even have the stomach room for the whole place." he joked back before he looked at the signs which he could easily read. "I'll go with a hot tea, then." Ayluin said and smiled. Ever since he came to Soleil he had grown quite fond of the tropical fruit mix tea. Once they had their orders given to them, Ayluin looked around a bit before he walked to a more dimmed area of the cafe. Usually he would just plop down on the closest available chair, but he wanted to spare his current company a headache if he could.

"I come here quite regularly ever since I learned it exists." the elf said once they sat down. "There are a lot of interesting drinks here and their muffins, pies and cakes. do you have a favorite?" he asked curiously to the other. They had led the way here very easily, so Ayluin could but assume they came here more often. Of course he could be wrong and they just knew it from passing by. There was a lot the elf found himself wanting to ask the man, he was genuinely curious to them. But experience had told him his curiosity wasn't always appreciated.

"Night never ending
The weapons we bring are our souls
You know, You know
You know what it means to feel real
So rise up, claim the sky
We fight, We fight
Night never ending."

Drizyrr Zaulyl

Oh good, Ayluin had picked up on the fact that it was a joke. It would have been awkward if he hadn't, but also it showed that Drizyrr wasn't entirely cold and wary. He could be fun, at least a little, when he wanted to be. He listened in on Ayluin's order, wondering if maybe he could glean some information out of that to make up for not being able to read the signs. Conveniently, he did get some recommendations. He got the tea as well, and three of the orange muffins (one for Ceres, and two for him, though he hoped Ceres would share hers with him, knowing his addiction to oranges.) The price seemed fair as far as he could tell, but he still didn't like spending money when it wasn't necessary; made him feel like he was plunging them into bankruptcy, even though they definitely had a better income than that. He noted that Ayluin refrained from taking the nearest table, or even one of the first few. No, he headed towards the back where it was just a little dimmer due to the reliance on sunlight (which just wasn't there today). He gave a flicker of a smile as they sat down. "Thank you for finding this dimmer spot. Even with the glasses, it is still rather bright in here. At least I don't think my skin will burn from artificial lights." He divvied up the goods, trying so hard not to show his obvious enthusiasm for oranges. Even with someone he was beginning to trust, he didn't want his greatest weakness exposed. Immediately he grabbed up one of the muffins and took a tiny little bite out of it, curious as to how orangey it really was. The first bite was absolute bliss. The batter had a bit of orange juice or concentrate or who cares in it, but there were also tiny little candied oranges. He wasn't as much a fan of candy, but if it wore the flavor of that most divine fruit, then he definitely would like it. Still, he had to act civil so as to not give away his secret. "Actually, I've never been here before. I just know where most everything is in the city, cased it out soon after I arrived. Besides, my fiancée works downtown, I work around here, I used to live over in Ombre, and we currently live in Etoile. For having only been here a handful of months, I've kind of been all over the place."

Even though he was being deliberate and savoring the muffin, it wasn't long until the first one was gone. Though he wanted to dive into the second one, he bided his time by taking a sip from the tea. It was a little hotter than he was used to, but not so hot that he burned himself. Even better, he could taste the fruit infusions. Fruit was his favorite thing, though vegetables were good as well: all stuff he hadn't really gotten to experience in the Underdark. To delay things even more, and also not just sit awkwardly across the table, Drizyrr figured he would start the dialogue back up. "What brings you to Soleil, if I might ask? I imagine it can't be nearly so beautiful as your homeland. Nor as idyllic." Even if Drizyrr had not said too terribly much about his homeland, what little had been said was probably enough for Ayluin to realize it was not a good place. So Driz leaving for somewhere like Soleil, while paradoxical because of all of the light, it at least made sense as a better place to be. But Odoraen sounded about as perfect of a place as was possible, so he really couldn't imagine leaving. Or maybe that was just because he was near the end of his life, so he was thinking more about trying to spend the last ones in peace and less about discovery and adventure. Though he wasn't sure how long the answer would be, he settled himself into the chair, getting good and comfy so he could ride out even the longest of narratives. Finally succumbing just a little bit, he pinched off a small piece of the muffin and chewed on it slowly, letting the flavor slowly engulf his senses.

"Long was the hour for the valiant knight that would ne'er be sick or slain
Lonely the bower in the candle light with neither kith nor kin
Storm clouds over the full moon raced, as he swung to the dapple grey
And man and horse to the westward faced on the eve of an All Saints' Day.

He's laid his hand on his hunting horn and with his dying breath
Has blown a blast to the blazing morn that would rouse the angel of death
High in the cusp of the starry night he heard his grey hawk mew
As out of the misty morning light his ghostly greyhounds flew.

Waillee waillee my noble lord who wakes me from my rest
There's none can heal the wounds of time that lie bloody on your breast"

It made sense the other didn't have a favorite of the cafe yet going by their answer. If they never had been inside, they never tried their wares either. Ayluin himself had pretty much visited enough times to have tried it all and pick a handful of favorites and then some. He listened to the other as they spoke and blew over his tea a little before he would even dare himself to take sip. He was well known with how scalding tea could be if you weren't careful, but it turned out it had cooled a bit already, making it ready to drink. "You are welcome." he replied and smiled when he heard the drow thank him for finding a dimmer spot. "With your eyes being as sensitive to light, it felt like the only good thing to do as to save you a headache." the elf chuckled a bit. To him such acts of kindness were everyday common. At least it was how he grew up back home under his parent's care and tutelage in the first years. Chivalry and consideration were still very much alive in Odoraen. Or it was among the commoners.

Sadly the same consideration hadn't extended from the King to his only son. But such worries were far from Ayluin's mind now. He more so lived like Ayluin the resident now more than anything. Still even though such thoughts might have ran through his mind at split seconds each, he never missed a beat when it came to listening and talking with his current companion. "Did you two move here together?" he wondered curiously. It sounded like they might have, unless this was quite the lightning romance, not that those were bad. Especially when they worked out! He didn't miss how fast the first muffin was gone but the elf just assumed it was because the other enjoyed sweet foods in general.

The moon elf had fallen quiet for a moment as he took a few more sips from his tea but he placed down the glass when he was asked what brought him to stay here on this island rather than his own. Ayluin considered the answer just a little bit at first. There was no way he would bring up the actual reason. Not for lack of trust, but he just rather didn't want to be reminding himself he was actually posed to marry a princess from the nearby lands. Thankfully that wasn't the only reason that brought him here. And when it came to Soleil also not the biggest reason. "It is true that the air at Odoraen is cleaner and Saela where I come from looks simply divine, but I have never liked being stuck in that one area." he said, hoping it was easily perceived as him meaning the city itself. "I guess wanderlust took over, especially once I heard about some mythical fruit with supposed special powers that was important to peoples' destiny from a traveling Bard. He never mentioned what powers or what it exactly does or is meant to do, so I grew curious and left the home behind.

It took me a while to learn the island they spoke of was Soleil though."
he answered and smiled. "Ever since I arrived I have often visited the library to find out more about this fruit and took some promising books home with me for the duration that you may borrow them." he finished as he thought about the books. He still wasn't much wiser about this fruit as many of the books had more mythical legends and creatures and it was easy for Ayluin to get sidetracked by his curiosity. though telling this in actual words to another person, he suddenly felt like perhaps it was a bit silly and he blushed slightly as he chuckled a bit. "I wouldn't blame you for thinking me flighty taking such drastic measures to chase after my curiosity." he admitted after hearing the words actually said by himself. "What about you? What brought you to Soleil? I mean, anyone can see you haven't had the easiest life but Soleil itself as a destination?" the elf asked curiously. Even Ayluin could guess that the man might be escaping his previous life, which was much the same with him, but why Soleil specifically of all places they could have gone?

Don't have acces to formats on mobile, so I'll add them later.

For him, it didn't feel so much like a whirlwind romance, but that was probably because he was used to political marriages and not anything associated with love. It was such an extraordinary thing to enter into a partnership not out of a need for an alliance or any sort of political/economical gains, but because he actually loved her. He shook his head, "we met at the lake on the island. She was so graceful, majestic, and kind, I couldn't help but be taken in by her. I'm not sure what she saw in me, but it was enough for her to desire my company." Even now he could perfectly envision the first time he had seen her: her delicate branches framing her voluptuous form as she gracefully glided into the water. She was the first person he had met here, but he would have still lived a perfectly full life if she was the only person he had met here.

He casually listened to the elf's line of reasoning, alternating between picking at the muffin (trying not to devour it in a single second) and sipping at his tea. Between the warmth of the building and the warmth of the tea, he felt eater at ease, but he was certain he was going to pay for being out in the rain in the coming days. Hearing Ayluin speak of wandering the world in search of some mystical legend that he knew almost nothing about...it sounded wonderful. Drizyrr wouldn't even think of it now, but even a mere century ago he would have been quite willing to abandon everything to go on some great quest, so long as the request was something of his choosing and not an order. If it was an order, he could be quite certain the result would be some form of travesty. As far back as he could remember he had dreamed of escaping. As a child he could remember imagining fantastical adventures in the most exotic places his little mind could imagine; he pretended that the beatings and laborious training were all to prepare him for this great adventure, and when he returned his family would be so proud of him and love him and they would all be happy. It didn't take long for those dreams to get squashed. "Don't trivialize your wanderlust or need for discovery. It is a virtue, truly. You should explore while you are young, to get a sense of who you are and what you wish to be. Maybe even find a place where you can fit in and live your best life." He didn't fit in here, but he didn't fit in back home either. The Underdark had not eclipsed his soul like it had the others, but it had dimmed it too much to match this surface world. And he was much too old to create his best life. Well, that was only because he hadn't found Ceres sooner. Just think how different things would have been if she had gentled him much earlier on! But he could make the best out of what was left, and try not to stir things too much in this new home. "You should ask my fiancée about this legend, it sounds like something she might know about. She has been here longer than I, is decidedly more knowledgable in general, and plants are quite her specialty." Which was quite the understatement: she had protracted conversations with plants after all! If the plants knew about this mystical fruit, then she could find out about it in an instant.

As for why he had chosen this place, he had sort of been looking forward to this question as it had a rather unusual answer. "I was sideswiped by something while traveling through a portal and ended up crash landing here. Midday on an incredibly hot day, no less. It was a decidedly unpleasant experience, and I spent several days in the hospital recovering, but at least it got me here. That and it was much better than what lay on the side of the portal from whence I entered." He would honor his promise to himself and not go into specifics, but Ayluin had already surmised that his life hadn't been pleasant, and whatever the boy was imagining had happened to Drizyrr was probably more tame than what Drizyrr had really experienced. "I do sometimes wonder where I would have landed if I came out on the other end of the portal, but I thank whichever god took pity on me and sent me here." And maybe that deity had also helped Malstra find him, and maybe she would bring more sympathetic relatives to visit, if there were anymore, which was not a guarantee.

Wearing: a Rainy Autumn day «» Company: Isa «» Location: The Moonbucks Cafe «» Money:$20 «» Relationship Status: Single

Dipping her hand into the inside of her coat’s pocket to retrieve the only twenty dollar bill she had, Val half-heartedly listened to Isa’s opinion about the matters of the girls. He didn’t believe that the girls like him and maybe he was right. To be honest, she didn’t have a knack for people. But the death-stares that the girls gave her as she walked beside him was something.“Maybe. But It seems like it.” The woman replied. She did hear Isa's rude comment, however it wasn’t her business to mind his mouth. He had every right to not be attracted to them if he wishes. Her hand finally grasped the bill and Val smiled as she brought it out for the barista to pay…

"I'm covering for her." Isa announced out loud.

The pink haired woman turned her head to gaze up upon the towering man. A smirk was wearing on his face as the words left his mouth. He was something. He knew that she wanted to pay, but he wanted to pay for her meal and wasn’t going to let up about it. Why? Isa then stepped up closer to the counter and started to order for himself. He ordered a couple of cookies, a muffin, and a cupcake. All to go. Val smirked as she heard this, but her smile faded as the man added a small tea to his order for here. Welp, it look like he was staying after all.

The barista was in the process of ringing everything up when Isa turned and requested that she look for a table. Val glared at him at first, but eventually sigh.“Fine.” she had nothing better to do . Val stepped away from him and into the rest of the cafe. Moonbucks was a decent sized cafe, even with a crowd of people in it. She had heard it through the talking of the locals that the popular cafe was once a warehouse that stored pool floaties before someone decided it needed a renovation. Val had little trouble spotting a vacant corner next to the metal bookshelves, brimming full of donated books. She walked over and made herself, waiting on Isa with the order.

It was just a couple of minutes later when Isa walked over to the table, carrying two bags along with a tray of both of their hot drinks. Val started to move to help him. However knowing the last half a hour of meeting Isa, the woman knew that he would promptly tell her to stay in her seat. Like a trained canine. So she did stay put. Isa was able to settle everything himself; he had put the tray on the table along with a bag. The other bag he placed on the floor by his feet. So Vasilisa could only presumed that the bag on the table was hers, containing her cheesecake. But for now, the girl only grabbed her coffee from the tray that was easily identifiable by her nickname on the cup in delightful cursive penmanship. Val sat back down and brought the cup to her lips to start cooling it down. This is when Isa began the conversation again by asking a simple question: What hasn't she asked him about his behavior yet? Is that a trick question...he didn't look like he was joking as he bore his hazel-colored eyes into her soul. "Apart of the occasional drink or two from men at a pub or something This is my first time getting spoiled by a strange man to this degree. Congratulation ." The girl remarked as she took a small sip of her coffee as she looked while he did the same. But he didn't even blow beforehand. Isa had a high tolerance for pain......Val brought the cup back down from her lips, "But I'll bite only because you are just dying to tell me. Isa, why is it that you are being so nice to me when I merely a stranger to you and your kindness?" Val said, with a touch of sarcasm in her voice.

                                                              --:::------::------------------->⛥<--------------------::------:::---

Though Ayluin was thrown into a marital agreement against his will as well, he had already seen even as a child that love marriages also existed. And the day he discovered he had much more interest in males than females, though he did like both, made it all even more complicated for him as his parents or more so his father would not allow him to pick his own partner, let alone another male. Yet the elf refused to accept his so called fiancee as an actual partner to be and thankfully the same seemed to apply here in Soleil. They didn't seem to recognize forced marriage here. A gentle smile formed on Ayluin's features when he heard the other man speak about how they met. That sounded perfect! "What a romantic meeting. I am glad it works out for you both." he commented genuinely happy.

Though it surprised him a little when the other told him not to think to casually about his wanderlust. The elf couldn't really help it. All his life all he had been told was that he was a dreamer and that he shouldn't give in to the childish need to explore. "Try to tell my father that." he said and sighed a bit. Still it didn't bring him down much nor for very long. After all his father was in Odoraen and he was in Soleil. Literally many miles apart. And he had managed to escape his home and follow his curiosity and need for adventure, even though it meant he now had no contact with his family at all. It seemed that Ayluin was fine though to think like this and actually showing it to his new found...friend? Ayluin hoped so, the other seemed quite friendly to him.

His thoughts were even more distracted from his old home when the drow mentioned about his fiancee and how she might know more about this fruit myth that was the whole incentive that had finally pushed the young man to give in to his wanderlust. "You think she wouldn't mind some stranger asking her?" he asked. After all he never met her. She probably didn't even know he was here, unless they crossed paths before in Soleil without knowing the other. But he didn't say much more after as he was listening to the other man's story about how he ended up here. The elf was obviously impressed by how they ended up here. He had heard of portals and how very powerful mages could conjure them. But as for traveling through them he had no idea. "That sounds amazing, sorry to hear you were hospitalized though. I would also be curious where it would have ended. But if you are happy where you are, it is a good thing you didn't find out." Ayluin said after they finished and smiled.

Of course Ayluin now also wondered just where this portal had led, or even to the world from whence the drow hailed. Curiosity was the whole drive behind his wandering after all. But considering how the other didn't say much about his world, just that it hadn't been a good one, perhaps it would be best if the elf would never chase after that one particular curiosity. That didn't stop his mind from wondering though and once again consider contemplating books about it if he could find any at some point. It was something that stuck with Ayluin even now he was on his own. Books and studying subjects that either interested or intrigued him. But that was for another day, the elf was not in the habit of letting thoughts allowing him to interrupt tending company. "Perhaps it was all a chance. I'd say our meeting was quite by chance," the elf said and smiled before drinking some more of his tea. He did still loosely belief in his people's gods but it had kind of watered down since he left Odoraen. They had no presence here whatsoever, so not as worldly as he was taught.

He gave a slight smirk when Ayluin suggested he try to convince his father that wanderlust wasn't a bad thing. "He sounds like the sort of father I was expected to be. Not that I ever was though." Though really, he wasn't supposed to have much influence in the upbringing of his daughters, or really too terribly much in his son's upbringing. He was supposed to be a model for proper behavior in a male, but he had never been that, had never even been much of a disciplinarian; he would always cave into whatever the child wanted, always try to comfort them when they were upset. He was just too weak according to most of his kind. Maybe he would be at an advantage because he could view the issue from both the perspective of the child as well as the father. Another bonus for him was that he no longer had to worry about what his father thought of him or his actions: the man had died quite a long time ago. Not that Drizyrr cared.

"You aren't really a stranger though, are you? I know you at least a little, and I wouldn't just give you the address and say show up whenever you want. For one thing, she works as well, so she might not even be there. But if I introduced you, I think it would be alright. I...don't know many people here, so I imagine she would be happy to know that I actually talked to someone for more than a few seconds." That and he hadn't stabbed Ayluin. The list of people he had not yet stabbed was considerably shorter than one may have hoped. He hadn't killed many people, but he was not above maiming if they messed with his girl. "Maybe the plants will vouch for you too. They have her best interests at heart, so she tends to listen to their opinions on things." He hadn't yet stated what she was, so the plant comment may have seemed highly unusual, but then again, if Ayluin really knew hardly anything about drow, he might come to the assumption that plant communion was a common thing. It would likely come at a shock that his fiancée was a dryad.

"I can guarantee that neither end of the portal would have been pleasant. Likely, I managed to stumble into the only good option possible. Even a hospital stay is not such a bad thing, all factors considered." Factors like: on his end of the portal was a somewhat powerful priestess trying to kill him, and on the other end was a land which hosted that giant terrible monster. Yeah, a hospital stay for a bit of battery and a lot of sun damage really was a small price to pay even if he had only managed to get away. It was an even smaller price to pay for getting to meet someone he actually loved. "Perhaps it was all just chance. In my world, the gods are quite active and noticeable, but here it seems they are more subtle. So perhaps things really do fall to chance more often. That's...reassuring." If the gods weren't intervening all of the time, it meant while there was still a bit of chaos and probability to deal with, at least individuals had some control over their fate, and could rely on their skills without having to worry about a deus ex machina making unforeseen changes. He was so tempted to get another one of those muffins or fifty more, he could go either way but decided maybe that was not the best option. Ceres always kept him well-stocked in oranges back home, and he didn't need to be spending money wantonly when apparently healthcare wasn't entirely free and they definitely had some bills to take care of. Ah well, maybe another day then.

He could sense her resentment as he asked her to find a seat for them, and noticed with distinct interest that she remained at the table as he brought their orders over. It was a strange duality: annoyance at how he was treating her, yet compliance as well. "You mistake me. I don't care if you know my motives or not. What did intrigue me was the fact that you seem street savvy enough not to get yourself into trouble with a stranger, not so desperate as to take up the first stranger who gives you a kind word, and pissed off enough at my antics. Yet here you are, still hanging out with me. I was just curious as to what one you over enough that you were interested in seeing where this went?" He took another sip of his tea, unaware of how hot it was, or even what it tasted like. Refreshments were just wasted on him. "But since you asked, I'll go ahead and tell you, even if you will probably think it is a stupid reason. I noticed your hair color, it's a shade or two darker than my daughter's. I don't know if I was thinking more about being nice to someone who had at least one feature in common with her, or if I was curious if you were anything like her. In case you are curious, you aren't very much like her, but, I still find you interesting and I do still like your hair. There, now I might not seem like so much of a creeper, now that you know I've got a daughter back home. Can't be acting like the sort of cur I would neuter if he ever came near her." Maybe it was overly dramatic to suggest castration over an offense, but when it came to his baby girl, there was nothing he wouldn't do for her.

"That said I'm no saint. If you were inclined, I would definitely be picking you up now. But if you aren't, then that is fine too. I'm not some d**k-for-brains who thinks everyone he meets is either a bro or a date, but I also see no use in prudish antics. At the same time, I could also potentially see myself inviting you back to the house so you could get to know my daughter and you two could be friends. Haven't decided that latter part yet, need to know you better." He shrugged, not particularly caring how she took the info. He was more forward than most would have dared, but he had also seen some of those stupid rom-coms, and every single one of them had a section where one of the partners failed to be straightforward, and it came back to bite them much later on. Besides, she seemed like a savvy enough woman, no sense in making it seem like his interests could only be platonic. Though he had to admit, this wasn't just trying to be honest and potentially suave: his...deterioration had a large part in his wording as well. He just didn't care so much how others took his words, even if he did have a shred of interest in them. So no matter how she reacted, unless it resulted in someone taking Emi away, then this venture would have a positive enough ending.

Ayluin wondered if the smirk was a good or bad thing in this case. But he didn't really expect it to be bad. So far this man had not shown him any ill intend. And they sure didn't seem to share his father's ideas about wanderlust. If his father had heard someone encourage his son to follow his curiosity he'd probably have a coronary. Though he probably already was frantic by now with his heir missing. Still Ayluin couldn't say he was feeling sorry for them. It had been their drive to tradition that had chased him away after all. The elf smiled a bit. "I just know he prefers tradition over his own child." he replied and shrugged. This was no time to really think about that though. And it didn't take long for Ayluin to be distracted by the subject about the other's fiance.

Ayluin chuckled a bit when he heard the drow's reply. "I guess you are right. You do know me a little at least. If she is willing to meet with me, I will gladly come by." the elf said gratefully. Not just because she knew information which he was curious about but he was liking this drow more and more. Of course that could partly be because he never really did know any bad drow where he came from. Of course he hadn't missed how the other spoke about fathers but they had yet to mention having any children, so Ayluin would respect that secrecy as well. Like their name, they would tell him once or if they were ready and willing in his opinion. As they continued though, it sounded to Ayluin like the man was perhaps a little shy? Since they mentioned not knowing many people and their fiance being happy they spoke for a while with someone.

It would also explain some of their slight secrecy here and there. But the moon elf wouldn't pry. Ayluin's expression went to a bit surprised when they mentioned the plants too. Of course he had mentioned this before but it remained an interesting thought. "I have yet to meet a plant who runs away from me." Ayluin replied and chuckled a bit. Of course that was not to strange considering he could help them grow from as early a state as a seed or root. Ayluin helped them grow strong and healthy if they were not doing well. But that was about the extend of his powers. He never got a chance to dapple in it since his father considered it below his son's station to work in the garden. It had caused the elf plenty of lectures about proper conduct if he was found covered in dirt again.

Ayluin listened carefully as the other spoke of the portals as he thought to himself about it as well. The drow might well be right about it. The elf knew little and less about portals but if the destinations were as terrible as his friend now told him, then Soleil really had been a golden chance. And a lot less bad considering the alternatives. "If portals lead to such horrible places, why do people even use them?" he wondered a bit. Of course he could tell one reason: Curiosity. That would be why he would enter a portal. But he looked up when the drow spoke of gods and nodded. "I noticed that too. Where I come from they can be felt in every tree, plant and animal. Especially ours, but ever since I got here I haven't felt them as much. Either they are near non existent here or I am losing my touch. Of course there is a third option that they just abandoned me like I abandoned my....home." he said, quickly steering himself in a different direction. He had almost said 'duty' which could have led to a problematic continuation of this conversation.

"Still, it is kind of odd." he pondered lightly for a short moment before he shook his head. "Like you though I do believe that we should be allowed at least a few choices in our life." Ayluin agreed with the drow. Especially considering the traditional pressure he had come from. To him, though he felt guilty for giving in to his lust to explore and discover, it meant a large deal he suddenly had a ton of choices to make. And perhaps sometimes a little overwhelming... The elf drank the last of his tea before he placed the cup aside so he could take it to the bar later. "Can I ask what gods you were following before coming here?" he asked curiously. Though he doubted he would know them since his people sounded so different from the drow at home. It was an innocent question however, driven by the moon elf's curiosity and hunger for information and learning.

He would need to run it by her, of course. In the olden days, he wouldn't have thought for a second that she would turn down a guest, but after...the event, she had gotten a lot more closed off. She was definitely doing better now, but she had not yet returned to pre-attack levels of outgoingness yet. "I imagine she will, but I will check when I get home." That should take care of that, right? It would be just a bit awkward for him, being the third wheel of sorts, and at least in the beginning, Ceres would want him to stick around as support or defense. Hopefully she would eventually come to trust Ayluin enough to not feel threatened around him. Hard to imagine this little elf as anything intimidating, but he had been uneasy around hm to start with, now hadn't he?

The notion of a plant running away from someone was disconcerting; in his homeland, that probably meant it was going to kill you and feed on your corpse, but here, here he had seen Ceres call upon vines and trees to aid and protect them, so maybe a running tree wasn't necessarily a sign that a treant was coming to destroy you. It also begged the question as to whether or not plants had any sort of moral compass? Was one type of plant generally considered evil while another good, did it vary from individual plant to individual plant, or was the concept completely preposterous? This place was so incredibly different from his home that he had ceased to imagine anything as impossible, it was just something he hadn't come across as of yet.

He quirked an eyebrow as Ayluin questioned why someone would use a portal if it lead to such a horrible place. He didn't quite have the heart to tell him that his ex had picked the plane herself for she knew it had horrible creatures upon it which could torture him in unimaginable ways. Once more, he would have to censor his answer. "From what I have heard, there are some naturally occurring portals where boundaries between the planes are close, or not so defined, or something like that. People with the right magic, they can open a portal from their current location to most anywhere they want. Usually it is a means of escape, or an attempt to bring something desired into one's current location. At least, that is what I have observed." Wow, he was actually starting to sound like an expert on magic. That was...surprising. Even his sister had noted with disdain how poor he was with magic. Things that he was supposed to be able to do with no problem turned into chores. Hell, he was supposed to be able to levitate, but he had never quite gotten the hang of that without a dweomer. After much practice and many lashes from the snake-headed whip, he had learned how to create faerie fire and cast darkness, but that was it. Just thinking of that whip...he struggled to suppress the involuntary shutter that traveled up and down his spine. He gave a slight shrug as the topic of less godly intervention came up. "For my sake not yours, I hope it is the first option. Though being abandoned by..." he refused to name any names, just in case, "that would be a nice option as well." He was only a male, so had never been given an opportunity to learn much beyond the most basic understanding of their religion, but as far as he knew, there was none upon that pantheon who would support him now. Most wouldn't have supported him even when he was a proper Menzoberranzan drow.

The next question only confirmed his fear that he should never have brought the topic of gods up. He knew the question was asked innocently enough, knew that Ayluin was just curious, but he had never seen the terrifying work of the head of the pantheon. He...Drizyrr couldn't even bear to think her name. He shook his head, "no." Clearing his throat, he tried to explain in a less forceful manner. "Some names are better left unuttered. It is not worth it to bring their attention, even for a moment. Trust me, some things you would be better off not knowing." He tried to appear composed, but when he next rose his tea to his lips, his hands were trembling so much tea nearly sloshed out of the mug. "Please, let us speak of nearly any other topic of which you could conceive. For instance, how I might get in contact with you once I have word that Ceres is ready to speak with you?" Yes, that was a much safer topic.

"Long was the hour for the valiant knight that would ne'er be sick or slain

Storm clouds over the full moon raced, as he swung to the dapple grey

The elf nodded when they spoke of talking to their fiancee first. Ayluin could understand that. After all when you live with more people it was best to discuss it first, so they wouldn't feel intruded upon. It made sense. "That sounds like a good idea. I would be happy to meet her if willing." he said and smiled before drinking some more of his beverage. He himself was quite alright with meeting people out of the blue in whichever location, even his own home. But some were just more reserved than that. And for him it was mostly due to how he was raised where he never really did have a private place. His parents or guards would always be coming in all the time. Such was the life of a royal heir.

And of course his curiosity was piqued when they spoke about portals. Ayluin had always enjoyed magic, but due to his father he had never been able to learn anything of the more advanced spells. As he never got the time to study much before he would be dragged away. In his father's eyes all that the elf should study, was politics and diplomacy. Both of which were infinitely boring to the young man. Perhaps he could see if there were no books to be found in the library or Bookworm's about magic. Now there was no one around him to stop him from studying the one thing he found the most interesting of all: Magic. "I know our mages are powerful, but if any of them is able to call a portal I wouldn't know. Sadly my father didn't want me studying magic, yet it was all I felt interested in. Instead he made me study all sorts of topics I simply can't ever enjoy. Though I guess it is a parent's curse to be oblivious, blind and deaf to their children's wishes." he spoke and shrugged a bit before he sighed.

It had always been the main issue that got them into arguments. their different ideas about the right education. "That said, even if I could summon portals in time, I am not so sure I still want to go through any... you know a lot about this subject don't you?" the elf said and smiled before he drank some more again. When they came to the subject of gods however, the drow seemed to get restless and increasingly anxious. It was something Ayluin didn't really understand. Unless of course they met gods like Erythnul or Gruumsh. He could understand then, but they were more seen around Orclands where he came from. What was more surprising was how the other reacted when he asked about their god and it startled him a little with how forceful it came out.

Ayluin was quick to recover though and he was about to say they could drop the subject when the other apologized. The elf smiled a bit and nodded. "I was about to say we could if it brings you so much discomfort." he admitted and placed down his cup in front of him. "You don't have to talk about anything you don't want." After all he had already answered so many questions. The elf knew when to stop, especially if it shook his new friend so much by the looks of it. "Of course, no problem. There are a few ways in which you could contact me when you need me or want to let me know she is ready. I'll give you my address, e-mail and phone-number. That way you can choose yourself which you prefer." Ayluin offered. He wasn't secretive about those things, or he would never have joined Chamblr after all.

The elf pulled a small notebook with a pen from his bag which he had taken a habit of bringing along. It happened he picked up gardening jobs along the way. When people recognized him from the ad and would ask on the spot he needed to be able to write down their info to discuss a time. And writing was one thing he was made to practice a lot as well. Ayluin wrote down his name and his address followed by phone number and e-mail before he carefully ripped the page from the notebook and offered it to the drow.

Welp, today was his first blind date, first one ever, actually. He recognized that in previous decades, he probably would have been nervous, but now all he was aware of was trying to make sure he had everything arranged well. They would meet at the cafe (why the crap did he keep getting dining establishments when he didn't eat!?) and who knows what would happen afterwards. Nothing risqué, likely, as he had messaged Vincent to say he would love it if Ambrose wanted to join them as well. Which brought up another obstacle: how to appear child-friendly. He recalled when he first met Emi: she had been perfectly fine with him, but her father had looked like he might die seeing her with such an intimidating man. He knew he was perfectly friendly, especially with kids, but his appearance didn't really scream of it. So today he would try to tone down his look by going with plain black tiny hoop earrings, rubberized spike earrings, plain black jeans with no holes, and an asymmetrical crimson and black button up shirt. It wasn't perfect, but it was tamer than usual. Next up was trying to figure out a present to bring. Getting a present for Ambrose was probably the most important part. From what Isa could tell from the profile, he got a strong feeling that Ambrose was the core of Vincent's life, so if he could please Ambrose, then he would please Vincent. He wasn't entirely sure how old Ambrose was or what he was interested in, so he ended up getting him a book that Vincent could read to him called "No Such Things." And for Vincent, it was sort of hard to figure what to get as the profile didn't say much, but he did do a little internet research (with Emi's help) and found that he was an architect. Or at least he had been. So he went to the book store and somehow magically managed to find a book of Frank Lloyd Wright's designs. Not that he knew it was Vincent's style, but it was the thought and effort that counted, right?

Anyways, he made his way to the cafe, more worried about scaring Ambrose than giving a good first impression. But maybe that would work in his favor as well? Hard to say, but he decided there was no point in worrying about it as he grabbed a table for them near the window, situating himself so that he could see the door.

Dates were...never his forte. There was always something so nerve pinching about them. He honestly felt like he could have gone his entire life just looking after Ambrose until he was 18 and then turn into an old geezer who tells kids to get off his lawn. But Ambrose was not having the whole old geezer bit. Why did he have to crush his old man dreams huh?

Speaking of the child himself, there was a little person currently in his arms, playing with a little airplane. His would make crashing noises as he tapped the tip of the object into Vincent's cheek. Vincent's face...was apparently a jungle gym for this kid. Cars, airplanes, drones...every freaking toy he owns! H was waiting for the day that this kid played way too rough and ******** up his face big time.

"Do you remember what we talked about?" More crashing sounds to show he was being ignored before he poked the child's cheek meat. He giggled softly and Vincent's stern expression melted. This kid was just not fair. Why could he never be mad with this child? How the heck was he ever supposed to pull off being mad when he was being cute?! "Be nice, play lots, no bite."

That...was close enough in his honest opinion. He had already come to terms that he just wasn't going to succeed with this one. Nodding his head, he fixed the toddler's little hood. Don't ask him why the child insisted on wearing the little tiger hoodie and why he refused to take off the hood. At this rate, he was fighting a losing battle, and just didn't want to go through the trouble.

Walking inside with the boy, the two looked around before Ambrose suddenly gasped and pointed enthusiastically, waving the little bag in his hand. Of course, he insisted the HE hold the gift they picked out together. Following the child's tiny finger, he saw a familiar face and made his way towards the man.

"Isa!" Vincent flushed as he shushed the child softly who poked his cheek with the airplane again and made crashing sounds once more. Sighing, he turned his gaze back to the man as his cheek is repeatedly jabbed with the airplane. "Sorry about that. Isa Schreck right? I am Vincent Reinhardt, and this is Ambrose Wolfram." A particularly hard jab had him gasping and looking at Ambrose who looked angry. "Rain!" Vincent sighs softly as he rubs his cheek with a tired expression. "I already told you, your last name is Wolfram after your dad. Stop jabbing me in the face with that, Ambrose."
