sweatdrop Well, I have plenty of time at work to mull over events and plot interactions. Living by oneself also gives a bit of help, as I generally have the luck of roleplaying scenes out in front of mirrors or cameras to help design ideas at least for my side of things, without public embarassment...

While I agree that time spent onscreen is far more valuable to character progression, I don't think that offscreen training should be entirely worthless. Kinda makes such long skips more burdensome than useful otherwise.

I didn't say it was worthless; However, if every time skip has a jedi "going into training", a person should have a pretty good excuse for going on such sabbaticals. Just being able to say "hey, i had a 2 month training period" considering most of these "chapters" are only a week or two long in time span, means many are probably ignoring other things to achieve said training. especially if it's done every, single time. Training is also a pretty broad term, since there's more than just learning a new power or maneuver, there's also training for research, skills, or simply training to be better in ediquitte for social arenas.

I'm not discounting that time offscreen is meaningless; to assume that would be offensive, if not a complete exaggeration. Rather, if one really wants to think about it though, many Jedi and Sith both spend at least some time each /day/ to at least focus, meditate, or train as well as perform any duties they have too. Such things don't really add much to a chapter's post, but such things are also "offscreen".

Does this sound clearer? I'm not trying to suggest that what you do offscreen is meaningless, but it is easy to start a new chapter off, and say "yah, i trained"... if anything, that can be just as suggestive that it wasn't really important either.

Perhaps i'm over-explaining things... so if that's the case, just say so.

Makes enough sense to me. In regards from 'day-to-day' training, Jedi and Sith tend to have an upper-hand over most, but that is a product of well-trained discipline though.

Everyone should at least give a detailed enough summery of what they'd be doing during the larger time skips for the mods to figure what to properly divvy out for 'offscreen' training or RP acquisitions, I think. Wouldn't expect much though...

Question though, what about in regards to 'Past-tense' rp posts, to help cover the ground between chapters a bit more fully for those who do that sort of thing. Could that be enough to be 'considered' for advancement process?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but let's try to say this:

over the course of a large time skip, we don't expect like, 100 posts detailing your exploits. However, if you are going to make a case about how much you spent "training", and you feel it is important for your character, then at least 1 or 2 posts should summarize the past events.

Let's also examine something else: In the course of the RP, you are awarded points. Jian, for example learned Force Stealth between Chapter 1 and 2. It was only about 2.5 weeks, and managed to pick it up. In a similar nature though, that was just a force power which he had spent considerable time nailing down from an experienced master.

So advancing? I would have to answer yes. It gives a good impression, as long as it isn't like "Oh, I trained a padawan in 8 months", you'll be fine, i suppose.

In all things, Moderations and common sense are better than trying to define the black line.

On a side note, skye, if you're going to interact with my character, it would probably help to 1) coordinate with me first before godmodding, and 2) actually know what I'm wearing, rather than just guessing.

Everyone else is just going kinda slow. It's not a problem unless we're plowing through several pages a day and people can't keep up.

Well, that was my worst post in a good long while. Frak, my brain isn't working right today...

Yeah, I probably should have coordinated with you first. Sorry about that. But I wouldn't go as far as to say it was godmodding. The old "slip the phone into the protagonist's pocket" is a book and film cliche. Plus, there's little harm in it. It's a communicator, not a bomb.

Also, I did check to see what Jian is wearing. This link is on every post, wasn't hard to check. I misspoke when I called it a robe, although in my defense, if you want us to be that precise it would probably be best if you pointed out which of the two he is wearing. (Though I'm assuming it's the one with the saber.)

I'll be sure to contact you next time before making a post regarding your character. Again, I apologize for my impatience.

Let me explain the issue:

Jian wasn't at the party. He was wandering the halls. i made specific note that there wasn't anyone nearby. So, you walked into an empty hallway, deduced he was a jedi because a slaver looking at a map is apparently odd, walked up to a jedi shadow who's been trained to detect sith, put something into a skin tight suit which as far as i can tell has no pockets to begin with, and walked off claiming that my character had no ability to sense or react. And still, you've walked up and basically puppeted him to have no ability to react to someone basically groping him in a dark alley. If that isn't godmodding, then tell me where you start calling a bit of bull on the scene.

I did point out which one he was wearing. If you read it again, you'll note it says it's the one on the right. I should probably point out that Jian doesn't have his lightsaber either, as noted earlier in the posts. He's got a standard pistol.

Ignoring it all, I will play the fact he's got a communicator on him now. But that's still quite a bit of generous stretch on krosis's part.

You aint got any room to b***h at me for not posting anymore.

Okay, looking back at the post, I have noticed some of the inconsistencies you mentioned. Thought you were at the party, didn't realize you were in an empty hallway. My bad. Also, I should have given plausible reasons why he could have identified you instead of glossing over such details. Again, I apologize.

It was a rushed post, my sad attempt to put something out there fast and it suffered for it. Would you like me to fix it up a bit, and do you have some suggestions as to how it could be easily changed?

Edit: Or I could just delete the post, have Krosis run off to do some other things I had planned, and then bump into you sometime later after we've talked it over...

Since you seem to want this little fiasco to happen, all I ask is that you make the post more congruent with the scene that Jian has. The whole deducing he's a jedi, while I'd appreciate a bit more work on it, can always be just a hunch out of the blue, but without credible evidence.

I'm not entirely unreasonable, but it's not like we're in any hurry here either. Try to remember that next time you feel rushed. I actually make my posts in a word doc, working on it bit by bit until it's ready to post, since inspiration is ephemeral at best.
