"That's understandable," Lin admitted, "It would be nice to take things easy instead of always visiting, besides I think we did most of the visiting anyways and with a huge family dinner if there is anyone you'd like to meet but haven't yet you can do so then."
So they could realize, have Miyuki play outside as long as she didn't put anything in her mouth.

"Well, it's not as if I would know who I'm missing," Earendil chuckled, "other than the ones that I've been told aren't here. But it would also be nice if perhaps we could do a day trip somewhere with Aras's boat or something. Not far, just for fun."
As they arrived at the ranch, he looked around. Everything was quiet, and the house was dark.
"Looks like everyone must already be in bed," he murmured softly to Lin, heading for the house.

"Probably," Lin murmured, "I guess this means it's good night for us."
She held up Miyuki who looked up at Earendil curiously as if to ask what is going on.
"Night night, right Miyuki?"

"Night night," Earendil chuckled, leaning forward to kiss Miyuki on the forehead. He ruffled Lin's hair affectionately, then opened the door for them to step inside. He of course would be sleeping on the same floor as them, but once inside they would have to be quiet.

Smiling widely up at him Lin stepped inside, ready to start a new day. The next few days passed along quietly, her parents did some visiting and she and Earendil explored a bit at their leisure.
As for Miyu, well she did end up helping Ruque, but in her spare time she did other things, like get strawberries of all things. In fact, Miyu was on one bright sunny day mushing up strawberries outside in a bowl and was proceeding to dump it into a metal container she brought with her along with milk.
Possibly she might have gotten it from the farm animals at Ulrich and Ulani's place.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Torshiro asked his niece warily.
"Mi.... why not?"

Toshiro and Miyu weren't the only ones outside: Haldia was wandering around, looking for someone to talk to (since she still felt a little out of place). She spotted Miyu and Toshiro and wandered over to them, curious about what they were up to.
She knelt beside them.
"What doing?" she asked, smiling at the two. "Ber ... berries?"

"Making strawberry ice cream," Miyu replied happily as she finished scrapping the last of the mushy mixture into the container.
Toshiro shook his head, "You're the only person I know who would think of using magic to make ice cream."
"But they don't have a freezer so they can't have ice cream, so I'll make ice cream," Miyu pointed out as she put the lid on.
"It needs to be churned, how are you going to do that?"
Miyu paused and thought about it, "If I make a little wind storm inside I think it might work."
Might being the key word.

Haldia reached out before the situation could get out of hand - a windstorm in a small space as that with milk and mushed berries seemed a bit dangerous to her.
"Ulani ... churn," she tried to explain, making signs with her hands to show a churning bucket. "Make ... butter. Churn."
Could it not also work for the ice cream, whatever that was?

"It needs to be cold, and don't want to make butter," Miyu explained.
Really cold which was going to be the difficult part.
"How about you just keep it cold and shake it?" Toshiro suggested, "We can take turns shaking it, I just need you to keep it cold."
He had to be insane to go along with this. Really Miyu should have gotten a proper ice cream maker and frozen that instead.

Haldia frowned. "Churn ... different?" she asked, confused. If it needed to be churned, would it really matter what was used to do so?
Still, they would know best, she supposed.
"I watch?" she asked, hoping to learn more about what they were talking about.

Miyu nodded at that as she fasten the lid tightly and held it with both hands. Focusing, her hands became cold, and the container began to gain a frosted skin as she placed one hand on the top and one at the bottom and began shaking it.
"That's going to be really cold," Toshiro murmured eying it.
"Then wear your gloves," Miyu told him knowing full well he wasn't as fond of the cold as she was.

Haldia watched closely as white frost began to creep over the ends of the container. She hadn't seen anything like that before, even on Amon Darthir ...
"What that?" she asked, pointing at the white stuff.

"It's frost, really cold water that's very thin ice," Miyu explained as she continued shaking the container, "It's what happens when something gets really cold, and any moisture that's on it will freeze...."
It made pretty patterns she thought, she like frost especially on glass.

"Frost," Haldia murmured, continuing to watch Miyu shake the container.
The entire thought of it was fascinating, the idea that something good could be made from shaking up milk and berries. She had grown fond of both while she was here, but she would never have imagined mixing them together.

After a while Miyu's arms got tired and she handed it off to Toshiro who had put on his gloves so he could shake it as well. Before handing it off she gave it an extra burst of coldness so it would stay cold while Toshiro shook it.
Really the concept of it was no different than those hand churning ice cream makers that got put into a freezer for a while.
"How long do we do this?" Toshiro finally asked.
"Uhm... might have to check because I don't know... it needs to have a thick consistency and then I'll just freeze it from there."
