Mastema

PostPosted: Sat May 13, 2006 6:53 pm

The silence around the table would be pretty unanimous. Of course, Tyr had hardly put forth anything more than kill-them-all.

The silence was broken by a sequence of beeps from Proto.

Thanatos stood up and spoke: "With my help, Proto has a presentation of a few weapon types he's devised."

Yes, by all means give your presentation, Proto." Mastema was more than interested in seeing what the doorman had to say. It had a unique view that the others probably didn't have.

Zeno had one slight objection. "Doesn't that bot just stand around and guard things all day?" The sarcastic response would get a beeping retort from Proto.

"You'd be surprised, Zeno, you'd be surprised....." Thanatos turned back to the rest of the table. "All of these weapons were designed based on how useful they would probably be against the opponents we've already faced. They're also situation categorized."

::Tyr would relax back and turn to Proto when he became the center of attention. Obviously the bot had something to offer, and because AI rarely had a bad idea he figured it time to listen.::

Well I for one want to hear what the iron-man has to say.

*Proto had weapon ideas aswell? How interesting, but then again he was a combat machine. When Nana had awakened him, she had asked if Proto was a combat model, at the time Proto had nodded in response. Most of the time since then, Proto had guarded the main floor of the tower, greeted those who walked back and forth and occassionally even went outside. He had battled some, and was in transition.... and evolution by his own understanding. It would indeed be interesting to see what Proto had come up with. Tyrsais was wrong.... Proto was no longer mere AI, no more than Zio was. Eecheb's tail would continue to tap at his chair. Things were..... not quite as boring. Afterall someone was nearly stabbed, Thanatos was taken hostage, Trilla had been scared, the hissing thing from the roof had come down for a fight, this and that and the other thing had continued on-- No... it was, not quite so boring afterall. The boy was curious however, more so than his other counterparts, or so it would appear*

It took only a few moments for Thanatos and Proto to finish setting up their display. "The first weapon that Proto's devised is a very effective melee type. It's actually based off of what Proto's seen our opponents use," explained Thanatos.

On the projector, a rotating three-dimensional image of some kind of blade was seen. for the most part, it looked like a basic sword, but there was a large indentation one one of the blade edges, and it looked like it was fitted with slots not unlike those which held flourescent light bulbs. Thanatos shortly continued as the image was shown by rotation at an angel and from all sides.

"As you can see, it's a hand-held sword. This one is one point five meters long. The normal side of the blade and the point is laser sharpened as best as possible, and there's also an electrical power source running through the sword during battle, keeping the material from rusting and eroding as easily. However, the real power of this weapon comes from the other edge." The image focused on just one representation. A lighting of some sort filled the indentation as Thanatos explained its importance: "Between these two points there's a VERY powerful magnetic field. Inside of this artificially made field is positively charged plasma. Because of the power of the feel, this plasma effectively shapes into a finely formed slender cylinder that can cut through anything that touches it. There's no need to "sharpen" the edge of this weapon; the plasma will be equally if not more destructive when it's got more surface area. In essence, this melee weapon would be able to cut through nearly any solid material because of the temperature and charge of the plasma blade. In a worse case scenario, the other blade is also finely sharpened."

Sho had to speak up: "You really think it has a lot of penetration power? Just how much?"

"This weapon would slice through Omega's armor and especially the heavy armor the enemy's been using like nothing, given the opportunity. I'm not hesitant to say it could possibly cut open our own barrier."

"Well...... dang sweatdrop " Sho didn't really have the skill to say it any other way. His sword was sharper than his tongue. "But it would mean jack if we couldn't get close enough to the enemy."

"I agree, and so does Proto. That's why it would likely be a reserve weapon for front-line attackers. Also, I would suggest a highly agile user for this type of weapon. If we could get among the ranks of attacking units, this weapon could be extremely devastating."

::Tyrsais would sit quite deep in thought for the moment although clearly anyone could see the benefits of having such a weapon, he didn't seem very excited by the prospect of such a weapon. In fact he seemed a bit troubled by it, but for the moment would stay silent possibly waiting for more information before speaking up::

Alright...

Cole was drifting...

His thoughts whirled around him in a luminescent display, endlessly sorting, collating, analyzing, and sorting again. Objects around the room spun merrily, and even Cole himself was floating a few feet off the ground. The more he used these powers, the more at home he felt with them. It felt like a re-learning process, something he had had once long ago, a muscle he was exercising again. And indeed it did feel like stretching as he let his awareness wash over the room and outside the walls, expanding the view of his inner eyes.

*By now Trilla was finally calm, though still unhappy. She didn't want to sit near Tyrsais anymore, so between Mastema and Micha she would stay. Hopefully that would be all right with Mastema, Micha didn't seem to mind or care either way, but that was the norm for that boy. Tension was likely still high after Tyrsais' stunt, so that man would be watched. Nana still seemed oddly calm, and the others were as they had been moments before*

Trilla: ~_~;

Micha: . . .

Eecheb: o___o

*It was a wonder what Cole might see, now that he had expanded his views. After all, his awareness was now outside the walls, right?*

Mastema's hand never left Trilla; he was still holding her hand and seemed to have no intention of forcing Trilla to move. Still, Mastema went on questioning Thanatos about Proto's weapon: "There are some words that I have known ever since my earliest days as a combatant. 'A weapon's capacity is limited the the one who wields it;' I truly cannot say how effective or ineffective this weapon will be until I see it truly used. Therefore, I hope I can entrust it to you and the prototype to build a full scale, working prototype of this weapon."

"That won't be a problem," Thanatos immediately answered, "because Proto's already built a working model of the weapon."

Needless to say, Mastema was a little surprised to hear this weapon had already been developed. "Proto already has a working model? Can this model provide an accurate test for the real production model?"

"Hai."

"Well, then I am at a loss for words. I had no idea you were this well prepared, Thanatos and Proto. I look forward to seeing the actual test personally."
"Now just hold up," Zeno blurted out. "I thought he stood around guarding doors all day."

Thanatos sure enough responded easily: "You'd be surprised what Proto does even when he doesn't seem to be doing anything." The comment was accompanied only by Than's own innocent grin. "We'll have the test ready whenever you need it."

::Tyrsais would look over to Trilla whom seemed uncomfortable, he would flash her a small grin. He had come to a few ideas that couldn't wait much longer now that he had heard their was a working prototype of this weapon. In fact he was happy to hear that the Prototype had been doing something.::

Well I have a few concerns about such a weapon... first of all it presents a significant risk to its weilder, both in the blade and in the fact that a magnetic disturbance could cause it to lose containment. Next that it has to be powered to maintain its field and unless a safety is built in to shut it down before it runs out of power it could become very dangerous as well. Clearly this weapon could be said to be a "double-edged" weapon...

It would be interesting if Trilla caught Tyr's grin, considering she was sitting under the table and on the opposite side of the table from him. His first comment suddenly made Mastema laugh out loud; he was quite amused. He spoke before Thanatos could even retort to Tyr. "Oh I admit, we could always have better fighters. However, Himura, if you or anyone else here who claims to be a skilled enough combatant to live here cannot handle such a weapon without injuring himself please let me know so that I may get you out of my citadel as quickly as I can. If you want to fight with such a weapon, you had best be able to make accidentally injuring yourself with your own weapon your last concern." Mastema cast Tyr another smirk and went on, this time talking to Thanatos: "However, Himura's second point may hold water, albeit given your past proficiency I have no doubt it should not be an issue.."

"Of course. Proto has taken the necessary safety protocols to see to it that the weapon shuts down safely. Naturally, whatever turns it off, the plasma will disperse before the field is dropped. Even so, plasma dissipates so fast that it might not be much of an issue. A nasty burn would probably occur, but that's about the limit. Overall, I wouldn't worry about it." Thanatos merely waited for the rest of the room to respond before moving on.

Marksman in the Chaos

Mugiri awoke after an indeterminadable amount of time for him. He awoke in such a stupor, the walls almost reminded him of hell. He paused though, feeling alive, he knew he mus have a fever and be hallucinating. He sat up, and almost keeled over from the lackof blood in his head. He looked around. 'so this is the citadel's hospitol?' He thought to himself. He had not spent anytime at all in his new 'kingdom' before that anomaly had happened, and he was warped away to an immeasureable distance from this land and... his master. He ripped off his shirt, useless withhow raggy it was, and looked athis chest. He hoped this was a hallucination, because where his scar had always been, it looked like a basic eye had formed, blind and with a dark iris, without lids, it was dry and disgusting. He almost cringed backwards, but he contained himself, unsure if Mastema was watching... or anyone else

*So.... Proto did more than simply guard doors. That was good. Nana and the children had once happened upon Proto listening to fifteen different music selections at once. At least there were extra curricular activities worked in with what seemed a boring task, which was self appointed. Proto was expanding on what he could do, and that was pleasant to see. Trilla could of course not see Tyrsais from under the table, only his legs and shoes, so his grin would be lost on her*

Trilla: ~_~;

*Eecheb seemed to enjoy watching the display spin about. It caught his attention for some reason, and he was vaguely entertained by it. The boy's wings would flex a tad, and his tail would curve back and forth, like a cat when interested in something. Micha had gone from watching a point on the table three inches from the edge, now to an inch and a half from the edge. Exciting stuff*

Eecheb: ~o___o~

Micha: . . .

*Mugiri wasn't exactly right, the location he was in, wasn't the citadel's hospital. In fact there probably wasn't an official one, save for the third sublevel which acted not only as a room of healing, but a room of torture. Mugiri wasn't there however... no, he appeared to be at a random infirmary somewhere away from the central tower. At least there he could be looked after to an extent*

::Tyrsais was satisfied that burns might be the worst of his fears when dealing with the weapon in a unfriendly environment. However still having plasma around would still pose a risk to the user, he however didn't think it to outweigh the benefits.::

Alright well I must say Proto... I'm impressed with the idea. I for one would like to use one a bit more extensively in some actual testing before we try in it battle though... see if its cumbersome, or something.
PostPosted: Thu May 18, 2006 9:26 pm

"Mastema!" Mugiri called forcefully. "I need a word with my master! Please Sir!" He did not yell, but simply talked loudly, hoping whatever devices he had, that Mastema himself would show up soon. He looked around, all this was unfamiliar, and far from where he had been raised.

The entire table could only nod in agreement; it seemed the weapon was entirely planned out.

"With all that said, I see no reason to hold back on this weapon proposition. You may move it on to the testing phase at your own discretion.." Mastema's response given, Thanatos followed up with a smile and a few more button presses on the console. "The next idea is one made more for incapacitating an enemy, but can serve several purposes," Thanatos started, "because its power output is variable."

The image of the sword faded from view and was replaced by one of a bazooka-like weapon. It semi-resembled a shoulder mounted rocket launcher.

"Despite what it looks like, this weapon fires a highly conductive net at the target. Its intended purposes is to use anywhere from a low level voltage to an extremely high level voltage to distort, incapacitate, or if necessary, kill its target." Following his statement, the bazooka projection was joined by a representation of the shell it fired on the side before he continued: "There's a trajectory computer inside the weapon which determines how far the shell is from its target; it tells the shell when to disintegrate. A small explosion in the head causes the warhead to split apart and open the next which is connected to all the war head pieces by its net tips. Once the net hits the target, the pieces naturally converge around the target and come within close proximity of each other, and they magnatize eachother and hold together very strongly around the target, making it very hard to get out. From there, it proceeds to deliver a curren through the body of the victim to other parts of the net. Naturally, the current causes the target to lose control of its muscle and body functions, incapacitating it for battle and knocking it out if the current is strong enough. The shell's initial launch velocity is so fast that the target would have very little time to react and dodge, which is why the computer is necessary to make sure the net opens at the correct time."

As he spoke, the holographic image of the shell would detonate as Thanatos said it would, split into multiple warheads, and wrap the net around a vague human-form doll, showing how the weapon encased its target.
