*That wasn't true was it? Would people really attack as soon as the barrier buckled and fell? Eecheb and Trilla would look across the table at eachother momentarily. It meant less freedom, more fighting and having to hide away where no one else could find you. The thought of it made Eecheb's plume puff up a little, making the boy look a little ragged and wild; at the same time Eecheb's tail would begin to tap the side of his chair again lightly. Micha would remain quite the sponge, simply listening and soaking up the information. Trilla would have both hands balled up into fists, braced against the edge of the table. If the child applied enough pressure to her hands, then she could rock her chair back and forth, however she hadn't begun doing that yet. Nana was still waiting for a reply from Thanatos, reguardless of what Tyrsais had to say*

*Before Than began to answer Nana, a display came up on the projector in the middle of the table of the barrier around the citadel* Tyr I didn't bring this up so you could rebute anything. Fact still stands you do more to us than the enemies.

*The comment got a few light chuckles, particularly because it was Than that had said it*

*Standing up, Than made himself more comfortable as he spoke* This is the dome that acts at the barrier right now. Though it's highly energy dependant, it is made of molecules just like anything else. Unfortunately, the most recent attacks have caused it to come under fire by heavy, high-power plasma weaponry. This frequent assault rate with such weapons has destroyed a lot of the barrier on its molecular level; the integrity of the barrier is breaking down because too many of the molecules are destroyed. *Various shades of red covered the hologram projection, to indicate areas of more severe decay. Needless to say, most of it was centered around the base of the dome where heavy plasma fire had ravaged the barrier. If the foundation of the barrier collapsed, the rest would fall easily*

Zeno: So? Just make new ones.

Than: I can't.

Zeno: Why not?

Than: I. Can't. ~_~ *The statement was said with such emphasis that it discouraged anyone from questioning further as to why Than wasn't able to produce more of his unusual substance. Than sighed and looked over to Nana* So, to answer your question, Nana, we need a new barrier.... or some sort of defense grid.

*Mastema nodded in understanding* I see. Do you have any blue prints for a replacement?

Than: I have a few ideas that, right now, will only work in theory based on what I know. I'm not entirely sure how we would make them work either.

Your word is as good as mine on this, Thanatos. By all means share your ideas.

*Than nodded and started entering more commands into Zio* With Proto's high speed connection to Zio's encyclopedic library, I've been able to make a few ideas based on fundamentals. The first one is a little odd....... it's "basis" is on the old saying, the stillest part of a storm is its center.

((Huh, I was under the impression it was a sphere... Anyway, sorry for the lame post. If I have time tonight I'll make it more pretty to read.))

Alright then.

Al-RIGHT then.

<_<

This, was by far, the oddest thing that have ever happened to him.

The landscape around hiom looked ghostly and silver, yet he still looked the same. Everything seemed to waver and smoke but... it seemed more like images of what the places could do than anything else.

With a silent drawing of breath, he attempts to walk through the barrier.

::Tyrsais only blankly looked at Thanatos as he responded to vampire giving him a very slight smirk after a moment. Indeed he somewhat liked the fact he was more dangerous to those around him then those on the outside::

Well Thanatos... if you truly have need of a new design maybe I myself can render some aid to you, as I have designed a barrier or two in my day. Let alone more conventional means of defense... which in any case we should have as a backup plan... but go on then I'm sure we'll move on to such things.

The hood snapped to the side, eerily silent as burning slits fell upon the vague direction. Pin-pointed easily enough, but not yet within range of sight, be it conventional or not. Regardless, Cole's little jaunt into the more ethereal-based realms had peaked the ghost-hunters senses, for obvious reasons. With another grin hidden to the void, the ghost hunter began to march towards the source of what he sensed. It was a subtle action that slid the dark pistols from their holsters, their ammunition laying in wait for a chance to strike an incorpreal foe. A chance they might soon have, if Cole wasn't quick enough with his movements.

*Nana would nod gently to Thanatos, taking note of the projected display. When Tyrsais chimed in that he could help with a barrier design, well it would be a possitive if he could help. Then he would be contributing, something that would no doubt please the rest. A new barrier, a Thanatos and Tyrsais venture? It would be interesting to say the least if the two did work together, though with the recent infection of Thanatos by Tyrsais, the level of trust would be slim to nil. Making herself comfortable again, Nana would sit back to continue listening until she had something to say or add*

*To Tyr, Than only made one response* Well if it keeps you away from developing viri stare *He chuckled a little and went back to his work. The dome in the middle of the table vanished and the 3D layout of the citadel was displayed* This is the citadel as of a few days ago

Sho: A few days ago? Why not current >>

Than: ^^;; the outer buildings get destroyed faster than I can count them.... for all I know this could be current.

Sho: *laughing, he nodded* ^^;; I've taken out my fair share. Sorry for interrupting; continue.

Than: Arigato. *Than turned back to the display* Well this is the most magic based of my propositions. In a nutshell, I'm saying to put the citadel in the dead center of..... *The holographic display suddenly projected a massive spinning cylinder around the citadel*.....a tornado

Zeno: *While the table was skeptic. Zeno openly made his comment, as usual* You know I'm sure we could just build a few bombs if we wanted to blow ourselves away.

Than: >> Weren't you listening. Stillest part of a storm is its center. We could, in theory, make a storm large enough so that its "eye" covered the entire citadel. If the storm is powerful enough, it will also effectively repel anything that physically tries to break through it. Because it's a tornado, it'll turn circularly and throw anything coming at it in a tangent direction. It's not bullet proof, perse, but it'll give anyone who isn't versed in extremely high level air manipulation or teleportation of some kind a run for his money.

It is an interesting idea, Thanatos. However, you know as well as anyone that many of our.... assailants do have the ability to bypass that kind of barrier, even hurricane level winds, through portal magic or some other bypassing method. What of them?

Than: This idea is a two parter. Before we had the barrier we do now, there was another, albeit it didn't protect much from attack. However, it did a terrific job of interfering with metaphysical attacks, magic in other words. *Putting that display into the hologram, everyone would see a different colored come cover over the citadel, yet behind the tornado* That could prevent people from magically overcoming the tornado barrier. Anyone who tried would be negated at that field and would have to somehow retreat beyond the radius of the tornado before being safe again.

*Mastema smirked a little, nodding* I am rather interested by this idea...

Than: There's more reason to it as well. The advantage to having the tornado created by powerful magic is that it would be negated by the magic-distortion of the old shield. We could have the cyclone made right up against the outside of field, and the field would negate the magic before high winds got in the citadel. In conclusion, the cyclone would repel all physical attacks, the field would repel all magic, and the field would also act as a "buffer," of kinds, between the citadel and the storm, so there would be few repercussions from having a powerful storm around the citadel. Who knows, maybe we'd have a light breeze in the streets as a result *Than laughed and scratched the back of his head*

*All of what Than said made sense to those at the table, but the extent to which he explained it surprised some people. He made it sound like he understood and planned it all on his own*

*Mastema chuckled and sat back in the throne* Well, I do say I am impressed.

Slayer: And this is just your first idea? Mercy me, I'm not sure I can keep up with much more of this thoroughness.

Than: ^//^

*Nana hated to be a pessimist, but there was a flaw and in more than one way. It may come as a surprise when she spoke next, but it had to be said. Perhaps Thanatos had other ideas that could help afterward but for now, this was important to find out and to know. The children had no idea what a tornado was, it wasn't yet something covered in their lessons though in future it was sure to be*

.....What it someone attacks from above? Right in the center of the eye.... It is conceivable and possible for someone to get above the storm. From there they would have a direct line of sight to us below in the center. Not only that, but what about everything outside of this tornado? With such a powerful and destructive force, the landscape would be ripped clean of trees, stones. There would be loss of nearby animal habitat, and the animals aswell. The area around the citadel would become completely devoid of habitable life. Nothing would even have a chance to grow or take root. It would become even more barren than it is now, and the effects of something so large would have reprocussions for literally miles. I would suggest a "dragon's wind" before something as outwardly as powerful and devistating as a tornado. Even then, there would still be the problem of being attacked from above such a creation. The eye leads straight to us in any account.

*The "dragon's wind" Nana spoke of was similar but more compact. Where a tornado could start dragging things in from more than a mile away in one direction tossing it around, a dragon's wind would start from mere meters away, with winds within it blowing in at least two opposing directions. Where Tornados were concerned the largest were in human terms classified as F5s. Those would have a base that streched for a mile to a mile and a half, and they were absolutely devistating. What Thanatos was suggesting, covering the entire citadel in one? A tornado that size could and would devistate the entire region, even if it never moved*

*Each person at the table found Nana's comment valid; they probably all had the same thought in the back of their heads*

Zeno: *To the comment about the life around the citadel being destroyed, Zeno was rather cold* stare Who cares. The only thing they're good for is probably lunch for Omega, and they aren't even worth that I bet.

Omega: Indeed. *The only things of worthwhile meat around were the horses that Bell had brought with her*

Than: Oh be quiet ~_~ *Than huffed at the two and addressed Nana. It might be odd, or not, that he was smiling at his idea being criticized* I will admit, an overhead material attack would be difficult to block. But there are a few things which make that a risky idea. First of all, the winds in the eye of the storm would be turbulent at best, albeit much less severe than the actual storm. The main risk in flying right in the middle of the storm is that anything in that area would be in direct sight of all four main defense cannons. The easiest direction for them all to aim is up, and since they're lasers the wind would do little to influence them; anyone trying to attack from above would corner themselves and give us a predictable attack angle. I'm glad you mentioned it though. *Than sighed* As for the land destruction..... it's not much of an issue anymore after all the attacks v_v.... All the bombings, raids, weapon fire, and everything else have desecrated the area for a long distance. Outside the barrier is little more than scorched earth now. Anything that was in the forests that were spared has probably left.

*Under normal circumstances, the barrier's inherently disruptive energies would probably distort Cole's ethereal method of entry. But the integrity of the barrier was already minimal. One area of the barrier could hold less energy at this point, and it just so happened that Cole was at an area of significant weakening. After some strenuous effort, he would probably be able to phase through the barrier*
PostPosted: Sun Apr 16, 2006 9:50 pm

*It was sad to think that no one thought to try and reclaim the land. That meant the only trees around for miles were probably in the peace. The only animals nearly, the wolf that had managed to get stuck inside the citadel when the barrier went up, and possibly the shadow creature if it could even be classified as an animal. It was more disheartening to Nana, to the point that the children would have nothing to enjoy outside of the citadel. There was nothing but craters and burnt earth, and that was hardly stimulating. Nana had wanted to take the children outside perhaps at one point to see all the various varieties of life, not found inside of the citadel. Now it seemed there was nothing, and so that dream for the children was completely dashed, it made Nana sad. At this point, she might remain a little silent for a while*

((Using Cole's words))

What an odd place, this other world he had found. He didn't walk so much as drift at a though, nothing else really existed except in presence and feelings. In fact, he could feel quite a bit more here than he could where he came from. The barrier was in front of him, and he attempted to move through it.

Strenuous effort was required.

<_< It might have taken Cole a while to force through it but...

-_- -_o o_o o_O O_O O_OO_O

Eyes widening, Cole sloooowly turns his head to look off down the shield. This feeling was starting to become uneasily familiar. Why was it... that everyone... WANTED TO FREAKING KILL HIM!?!?

The killing intent that radiated from nearby was enough to force Cole's efforts, he pushed his way through. He didn't understand where he was or what he was doing, but this force that he suspected was the barrier would be between him and whatever wanted to kill him now.

He shoulders strained, the veins in his neck and forehead popped out, sweat poured down his brow and his legs screamed. With all the might of his mind he pushed his body forward.

Then the pressure was gone, but the killing intent was still at his back. He had to become real again, quickly, so he could run the HECK away.

Whatever it was, it had forced it's way through the shield the Hunter found to be so amusing. It was unnerving that he came to where Cole had been, only to find the air about him, and no sign of Cole. Still, he could feel the lingering presence, he could taste it.

Touching his fingertips to the section of barrier, he grinned. This spot would have to be marked, though perhaps with enough strength he could manage the way Cole had. In the back of his mind, the Hunter wondered just what kind of special ghost Cole was.

*Than stood quiet as well, for a moment. Everyong at the table was rather disheartened by what happened to the land, but Nana's depression was felt among them, most strongly by her step-son*

*As the leader, Mastema soon spoke up to get the meeting back on track* We are here to find how to better defend ourselves. Once we are safe and can secure our home..... then perhaps efforts can be made to repropogate the land. But with so many savage people always attacking, perhaps it is better for the regional fauna to move on. When the land is safe, they can return.

*It wasn't much, but at least it was uplifting if anything. Thanatos nodded to both his father and Tyr before moving on* There are still other alternatives to talk about as well. As I said, this would work rather effectively on material and magical attacks, but the reason our current barrier is so worn down is because of plasma weapon attacks. Even with this design, they would be even less effective against the plasma weapon attacks. *Again, the boy went about punching commands into the keyboard* Tyr-san, you're a smart guy as I take it....... what do you know about plasma? *It seemed Than was giving Tyr a little pop quiz while he was setting up. From his tone, Than obviously wasn't asking Tyr to be cynical; it was an honest question*

*Cole's entry would depend only on his own effort to get in. Since everyone was at the conference right now, Cole might have some time to explore the citadel if he actually made it in*

*Indeed it was but one idea, hopefully some of the others would be less destructive. There was really no need for such waste and destruction, none at all. Yes.... after the citadel was safe again, then maybe they could look at reclaiming the land, but until then offering up ideas was the only thing that could be done. Nana would probably bring up something new later on, when the oppertunity presented itself, but until then she'd simply put, "shut up and listen". All ready though it appeared as if the children were becoming restless and things had only just begun. That couldn't be good, they were already bored. Such short attention spans*
