"No, not quite, but competition for territory and food is rough. I help them when I can and they help me. It's a mutual relationship. They kind of follow me wherever I go, unless I go into a city."

"Interesting..."She looked as if she might wish to say more, but thought better of it. "Well, I should continue my hunt if I do not wish to lose my prey. If you need anything from me or mine, you have but to give this." She offered Disa a small pendant, shaped like a teardrop. "If I can help you, I shall..."

She was still uneasy about letting the girl roam all over the forest, but it was her life to do with as she chose. If she said she needed nothing, then it was not Jessica's place to judge. Unlike Cris, she didn't have a hero complex.

Disa accepted the offered gift, examining it closely before pulling it over her head. "If you know of any woodland areas that aren't inhabited by orcs, let me know. Happy hunting."

She had turned to leave, but as she heard of Disa's request, she turned back. "You say this tribe is not dying yet, correct?" She would wait on Disa's answer before continuing.

"What if I knew of a tribe that would welcome new blood as well...in exchange they would only have to guard the wood from all but those that the tribe protects." If this worked out, part of her promise to her mentor could be kept after all. "There are no orcs, and the humans who are protected, protect the wolves as well. It is close to the city, but the property is privately owned by an individual who will not sell, as he is one of the protected."

"Not yet, they could probably do well here, but there wouldn't be much room for growth and the orcs would probably overwhelm them eventually, if nothing else starts to pick them off." There were things worse than orcs in The Dead Forest, Disa should know, she'd exorcised a few demonic spirits and had to avoid several big nasties.

"I'd say that was an offer that would be hard to turn down. I'm not sure what he would say about it though." She motioned to the alpha of the pack.

She nodded, the Alpha was always something to keep in mind. "I know of such a place, but there is currently an Alpha in residence, though he is old. Perhaps..." She turned and looked at the Elder Alpha. "...one of the younger males, given his own place with some of the females...to reblood the tribe..." It was to him and Disa she spoke, though she knew not if he'd understand.

"I have contacts that would be willing to help, but the forest is past Durem. And humans wouldn't take kindly to wild wolves wandering across the land unaccompanied."

"That might work." Disa looked down at the brute who was looking back up at her. "And I concur, humans would not take kindly to my friends here. Any help would be appreciated."

Jessica nodded in agreement, and then sighed. "Our tribe has lost a great deal of numbers...and they are far from ordinary, but I think they would welcome the new blood. I'll see what I can do. Is there any way to get in touch with you once I found out his answer?"

"Just come here... they'll let me know when someone enters the forest." Disa motioned to the retreating pack. They had lost interest in the two humans and there was hunting to be done.

A firm nod, and then Jessica griped her bow and headed out, she still had two more pieces of the missive to find. She hoped the first one was wrong. She really did. With a wave to Disa, Jessica focused and began looking for the trail she knew she was on.

Several Days Later

Disa had managed to round up enough catch to feed herself and help out the pack and the catch was good for skins too, none of them mangled. Speaking of skins, that's what she was doing, skinning the rabbits she had caught.

In the distance a soft melodic whistle seemed to be making it's way closer and closer to Disa. Maybe to her surprise it would be something she'd recognise, the person whistling it however she may not know. That is until she saw him walking slowly through the trees, hands stuffed in his jacket pockets like usual. With his eyes closed he continued the melody his lips only moving to form the different tunes.

Closer and closer he came until he stood not five feet from the little White Mage, the melody ending, his eyes opening only to ctach her form.

"Yo."

The simple gretting was laced with a half smile.

Indeed, once he was within sight, Disa did recognize the whistler, though it had been ages since she had last seen him. Reinhart, that was his name, and a name and face she would never forget. Her hand rose and she nodded in greeting. "Hunting or paying a visit?"

"Hunted."

Pulling his hand from his jacket pocket Disa would instantly notice the streaks of blood that covered it. She may even kick him for the cigarette he held between his bloodied fingers. After putting it to his lips and lighting it he threw his hand down as if ridding it of water before stuffing it back in his pocket.

"Though running into you is an added bonus."

He used his other hand to pull the cigarette from his mouth when he needed to push the smoke from his lungs.

"Got any injuries that need tending to?" Disa motioned for him to have a seat on the log that she herself was perched on. The clearing they were in was her makeshift camp, a few logs thrown around a fire pit, a tent nearby under the shelter of the trees.
