Sadly, deer and elk are not common availible for me.
However, I have had Kangaroo, Emu and Crocodile. For all who want to know, I don't remember the croc and emu to much as it was not til after I ate it so I did not savour the flavour. But, I will never forget Roo. It would be closest to beef in taste and texture, but is a much tougher. It can only be served rare or medium rare otherwise it becomes too tough. I love it.

I could survive perfectly fine as a vegetarian, as I like and often cook mostly vegetarian food... but alas, I don't see the point of not eating meat. Sorry vegetarians, you're all noble and stuff, but humans are built to eat meat.
However I DO think that people could eat less meat and eat more organically produced meat not the horrible chicken/meat farm stuff, ick! It seriously doesn't have any taste and the living conditions for those animals are just horrible!

I had emu once and it was devine. My favorite meat so far. But it is not good to judge on just one bite (all I had of it). I've had duck twice and once it was really good and the other time it was just plain gross, so I think there is something to be said for the source and the cook as well.

For fun I decided to try and list the kinds of animals I've tasted:
Pig
Beef
Chicken
Sheep
Elk
Deer
Turkey
Pheasant
Pigeon
Seabirds of different kinds (don't know exactly which ones)
Shark
Squid
Eel
Too many fish and shellfish to even count them (and impossible to know all their names).
Earthworm xD
Yeah... nothing too exotic really...

Anyone else think pork meat can be pretty nasty?
Probably one of the worst kind of meats... but then again that might also be because it's so 'common'.

My parents are health food nuts. They don't eat pork of any kind (not even an occasional pepperoni pizza!). They told me that 90 to 95% (I don't remember exactly) of the juices in pork is urine and that it is a 'dirty' meat because of the pig's poor digestive system. From that perspective, yes, it's nasty. But I still like the taste of it.
Chicken is my 'old common'. But I still like that too.

From a biologists point of view... your parents are WRONG. There is no such thing as 90-95 % body fluids being urine, if that's the case, we would be too. Humans are a lot like pigs anatomically you know (which is why a lot of drungs and stuff are made with components from pigs). Pigs are actually clinically pretty clean animals, the only problem is that they get quite big, which is why mini pigs are used more.
Only thing that's nasty is the amount of fat pigs accumulate, but that's mainly because people feed them too much and intentionally make them fat. Poor bastards.
Did you know that in the Japanese culture, the pigs are not traditionally looked at as 'filthy' and disgusting animals, such as in the western culture?

No, I have just been of having meat (as in food) dreams from this current topic.
If I could have my choice of meat to eat day in, day out, it would have to be pork. I find it to be softer and tender than beef, as well as being just a bit more versitile. Sure, you can slow roast both, but only Pork tastes awesome when covered in honey and wrapped in bacon.
