Ignoring Malodore completely was difficult. It went against her very nature. And yet, Riley did not miss a step. She knew Ro would flee any second, and she was determined to get to him before-

NO!

All of her tentacles flickered out, reaching for him even as she ran, but the portal was too close, too easy to get to. She barely stopped in front of it, growling in dismay.

I will remember you, scared little boil. She murmured in disappointment. I'll see you again.

The hunters passed by her as they ran into the portal, and she could have lashed out at any one of them, sending them home hurt, bleeding, or worse. But her eyes were only on the one that got away, for now. She even considered going through the portal, for a moment.

But she wasn't that stupid.

She turned around to storm unhappily back to the plague doctor, flickering her eyes up at Sammy speaking with Red. Her interest in the matter of the returned teacher was fleeting, but it would grow with time.

Sammy continued to stand there, the FEAR in the air was thick. Heavy, but she didn't drink, just a slight touch of it. It confused her for a moment. "...Their producing Fear? That never did that before.... it's the weapons being gone... right?" She shook her head suddenly, "S-sorry just a lot of things to think about right now..."

She looked up at Red again, something soft in her face as she looked at the werewolf-weapon. "It's good to have you back."

He could only watch the fight with a grim face, a table clutched tightly in one arm. It was weird to have his thoughts suddenly so empty, devoid of a second voice. Wilson should have been glad for the silence, but right now it was too lonely. Now was the time he would have appreciated Gramps’ soft mumblings the most, but now he couldn’t have even that. His eyes widened as the creature tore at the division leader’s chest. Caelius was dead? Gone, like that? Wilson didn’t like him, that much was given, but he had always figured he would have lasted longer than this. Caelius was strong.

Or so he had thought.

Mutely, he followed after the other retreating hunters into the portal. Done. He was so done.

Oh no.

No, no. That wasn't what he'd expected to happen. Thackery wasn't sure now what he had expected, but...not this. His hands were tightly clasped over his mouth in shock, and didn't move to brace his fall as he dizzied, stumbled, and hit the ground hard. A tiny yelp barely escaped between the cracks of his trembling fingers.

Red's actions were probably right. He never showed an ounce of goodness in his human heart. He tricked them and killed them and was cruel to his own. But he couldn't know for sure, and what if, and the sound of that human's flesh being ripped apart wouldn't stop playing through his head, and--

His typically tanned skin looked incredibly pale and sticky as he hunched forward, struggling to keep himself from getting sick. We won, he tried to tell himself, we won and everyone will be safe. They'll be safe, won't they?

And she'd let the remaining hunters go, so...so they'd be safe too. Maybe this would all work out. Maybe everything would really be okay.

He sat back and wiped at his face, shuddering at the feeling of pins and needles jittering across his skin, relief warring with conflict. He watched quietly as the hunters retreated and the students regrouped, some finding their way to Red, the world full of nothing but deafening silence, his own heartbeat in his ears, and...

...the sound of crunching bones, tendons separating....

His stomach lurched and spilled anxiety onto the ground beside him.

Eva watched everything unfold with a kind of numbness, her arms wrapped tightly around the tablet that had once been her weapon, her friend.

Chara. Chara.

And almost as if the weapon was still there in her head, a voice in Eva's head--her own voice, and how strange it was to hear it alone--urged her to stand up and get the hell out of there. There would be time to mourn, but that time would have to be when they were all safe.

She moved with Gale, awkwardly tucking Chara's tablet beneath her arm as she helped the blond lift up Bix and disappear through the portal.

There was a faint clanking as Moira dismounted her Trashbot, absently patting at the rusting and crumbling metal; the poor thing had seen better days by this point. Much better days.

The headcrab zombie shambled tentatively over towards Red, her eyes fixed on that red cloak - that cloak she would have followed to her grave, in her youth. She almost had. "Red," she rasped, her headcrabs crowding onto her shoulders so they could all see the werewolf reborn. "It's you? You're back? They told us - they wouldn't tell us - so many lies, Red." Her head snapped to the side to glare at the remaining Bogeymen.

There was a long, earsplitting howl. It was almost worse than being torn apart. Dogs. This time it was B0nez that DC'ed.

The constant radio chatter cut off with sharp silence. The fog did get thicker. And Caelius- it was hard to see. But he could hear the violent crunching- Harrison held B0nez's tablet close to his chest, which was killing him.

He felt something warm dripping in his eyes.

He was bleeding again.

Rep said they needed to get out of there.

"Jordan," he answered, a little brokenly, but the black dog was still there, and there was nothing any of them could do but run. No shields. No weapons. Fog getting worse- "come on," he said, hoarse. Jordan was smart. He'd head to the portal too. He would-

"It's not far," he said, reminding himself more than Rep, because every time his feet hit the ground he was rewarded with a jolt of pain. Breathing hurt, running hurt, thinking hurt, but he was alive for now and he hauled the four of them across the cliffs, one hand in a tight fist in Rep's jacket, the other on a tablet with an X on it.

B0nez didn't have anything to say about it.

Then it was over. And she was left, not with the comforting grip of her glaive, but with nothing but a stone tablet in her hand. In her head, there was nothing but silence. Unsettling, lonely, silence.

Sherry didn't hesitate to jump through that portal.

It was the only she could do, in that moment. Escape was just about the only thing her brain would process.

Selene looked as though she'd been behind Moira the entire time. There was no way to tell whether she had or not, so small and quiet, so easily unnoticed. But when she moved to talk to Red, Selene just quietly followed, and peeked her head out from behind Moira, to stare at Red in wonder - and just a little bit of fear.

Then again, that was always how she looked at Red, from the first time she'd met her. Nothing had changed - everything had changed.

Selene tried not to disturb Moira as she hung off the other woman's arm and waited for Red's answer.

Sharra really didn't know what to think. "Who knows..." It was quiet, the blond boil shrugged helplessly in response to Aksaja's query. "But we survived, most of us anyway...and..." His expression tightened, noting again those who did not fall under 'most'. Friends, people he'd known even if they'd not spoken in months. They had been vibrant, with lives and loves. Now it was all taken away. None of this was fair. None of it was. "...that means we have things still to look forward to."

He released a long, shaky sigh, his heart's tempo finally beginning to slow as he leaned into the dragon's touch for a moment, finding comfort in his friend. "Life's still waiting for us, Insanity or no. I hope that they'll let us go back now...I don't think we'll be chasing the Hunters just yet." Not after they'd been so thoroughly decimated.

"Some are, others aren't, and still others would deny it," Red replied with a shrug, watching. At the comment about her return, she glanced down at Sammy and shrugged again. "It remains to be seen. Some view me as an abomination, others will. Some may rejoice, others will wish that I stayed dead. It is all in the matter of perspective, and how things Are and Shall Be."

The werewolf-weapon looked to Moira sparing a glance to Selene before following the zombie's gaze. A look of puzzlement crossed her lupine face as she realized her cloak was now on her back; a snap later and her cloak turned into her wings once more.

"They are not the liars," Red corrected. "They are my squad. They are also late," she added as she threw them a look, "They and I shall have a conversation later. Those who told lies are not of my pack. Besides," a grin curled on the wolf's face, "You of all people know that not all rumors scrawled into the bathroom wall aren't real, Moira."

The abomination turned her attention back to the hunters, watching. Daring them to try anything.

Had they...won...?

Xiu wasn't sure how to feel, struggling to get a grasp on her emotions. Was she...happy? Relieved? Maybe a little relieved--after all, the Hunter who had been responsible for so much suffering and death was finally gone. It was technically, in many ways, a victory for Halloween, but she didn't feel like celebrating for some reason.

She took this chance to scan the field, searching for and ensuring the safety of her friends. When her gaze fell on Red, there was a pause, and then the baku's lips tilted upwards in a small, almost hesitant smile. The werewolf had been incredible--how she had managed to defeat Caelius, Xiu didn't know, but she had somehow done it.

As she continued her headcount, she noticed with a pang of concern that Alex was nowhere to be seen. Just where had the zomboil gone?

The Hunters were gone. They were weaponless. Their leader...was he dead? The one with the scythe, he was gone? Junko stood and stared at Red, the woman they had tried so desperately to save once before, mourned and now..

She was back? She was really back? She swayed a bit on her feet, just watching everyone rejoice around her. Red was back. Their teacher. She'd..she'd saved them. Junko had done nothing to help her but she had wanted to, she just couldn't get herself to move. She had been so shocked, so terrified. To be honest Junko was actually pretty ashamed of herself.

Red was back. She was back. She looked different right now, sure, but it was still Red.

Tears of joy rolled down Junko's cheeks as she rushed toward their old gym teacher, throwing her arms around her in a tight, excited hug. "REEEEEEEEEEED!" She cried, clinging tightly to the werewolf. "Y-you're back! We th-thought you were...b-but you're back now! You're coming home, right? Home with us?" She had to! She was one of them! She had to come home back to Amityville!

[[ entering ]]

A rare figure among the students approached. He had been quiet for the better part of a year, and was quiet now as he moved among the mist, unaffected.

He breathed easy, and he breathed free. The walls of his mind were wiped clean, as though they had been dusty for the last eight months.

His helm was abandoned, somewhere before he had been summoned by the urges that called him home. His face was pale as ever, and the patches of grey that had crept over his skin like a plague, blemishing his skin, had vanished. They had faded, the only reminders of them being the scars he had given to himself, the actions of a boil gone mad.

They were gone. All the physical remnants of insanity, of the disease that had ruled him with an iron fist for eight long months-- It was all gone.

The voices, the paranoia, the shambling urges to protect something so silly as the notion of Home.

The disease may have evacuated his mind and body, but the memories of his actions still tainted Ashford's mind. There was much work to be done: apologies to make, amends to strive for.

There was a time, for that, and it was not now.

Green eyes gleamed with an inscrutable emotion, and the Reaper's subtle grin revealing slivers of white fangs. The Pyramid Head's mind possessed a clarity he had thought lost forever.

It was time to pay a portion of his dues. He made his way towards a familiar figure in the distance.

She was still very, very put out.

But the first thing Riley noticed once she'd gotten back to Malodore and watched the proceedings from there, was the boil that she only knew from the plague doctor's memories. But it was enough to make her watch, very carefully, as he walked past and headed for the crowd.

There was only one thing she noticed about him, but it was enough to make her sullen mood disappear. She nudged Malodore softly with one elbow, and her chin lifted just slightly in Ash's direction.

He was clean.

Just like her.

Riley's eyes slid, side-glancing at Malodore, bent into crescents with delight.
