Mishka chuckled quietly at the child's sudden compliance once her requested parrot treat was promised. Since her flailing had ceased, he helped the girl shift so she could easily rest on his back where he suspected she would be much more comfortable. "We have deal, but after ice cream we pillage the seven seas, yes? Of course, it will be bird-seed flavor ice cream.”

To Liv's hand waving, he shook his head slowly, reaching for the hand that had waved him off. He took it and brought it to his lips, kissing the back of her knuckles in the same fashion he had so many months ago on their blind date. It was a chaste kiss and he released her hand moments later. "I insist. I feel like… date not finished until dessert… Now you know why I have avoided dessert for so long,” his voice was soft and teasing, stormy eyes soft as he glanced down at the young mother. As he lulled into a moment of hindsight, he realized that his words might have been too brazen and his gaze quickly shifted forward in embarrassment.

As they walked Mishka was lulled into a sense of complacency—the warm weight of a wonderful little girl riding on his back whom he could tease and take for ice cream, a beautiful young woman in his company that he was becoming more and more fond of as they continued to spend time together. His world felt relaxed and right and as he glanced over occasionally at the young woman between his gentle teasing of her little girl, he started to realize how much Liv had truly helped him feel more at home in the foreign worlds he had found himself thrust into over and over again. He wanted to tell her, let her know how much he appreciated her companionship, perhaps ask if they could spend some time together again with their vision fully intact… but his thoughts were easily blown away by the wind that swept through her soft, flaxen curls.

The bruising on her neck was light, but startling to the young doctor who noticed the slight purpling, stark against her light colored skin. The shape was distinctive—the bruising was in the shape of fingers, as if someone had grabbed her or worse, choked her. The smile that was on his face disappeared abruptly and it took all of his will power not to demand to know where the markings had come from, but it was not an appropriate conversation in front of Luci. His imagination on the subject caused anger to boil inside of him, but instead of jumping to conclusions he took a few deep breaths through his nose to calm, hoping there was a perfectly logical and non-violent explanation.

As they approached the ice cream stand, he kneeled to the ground to allow Luci safe passage back to the Earth, pulling some money from his pocket and holding it out to her. Placing a smile firmly back on his lips, he ushered her off to stand in line patiently for her ice cream. “You can pick any flavor you want. Your mother has story to tell me, but I trust my parrot will tell me of best flavors." He glanced up at Liv then, regarding her with open concern. He reached over and gently brushed her hair from her neck, looking at her questioningly. "Liv," he murmured quietly, making sure that there was no possible way anyone in their surroundings would overhear his words. There was nothing but abject concern showing on his face, his voice apprehensive and caring. "I ask because of concern... and if you cannot say I understand... but... where did this," his fingers gently brushed the bruise placing no pressure on the darkened skin, "come from?"

Luci giggled and stuck her tongue out as she shifted to Mishka's back, hugging around his neck, "Birdseeeeeed! Yucky! I want chocolate!" she rested her chin on her arm next to Mishka's head, closing her eyes and leaning against him, feeling the sun's rays wash over her face as he carried her along.

"Oh-" Liv was a little startled when he took her hand and brushed his lips against her fingers in such a gentle way, but a smile played on her lips and up to her eyes. As he let go of her hand too soon, she found her own still hanging in the air for a few moments, as if stunned by the sudden absence of his. She cleared her throat lightly and folded her hands behind her back again, making a soft noise of endearment, "Hm~ ...Well..I'm glad that you're a man of your word. Even if it's something so trivial, like the dessert, it means a lot to me.." she looked at his face for a few moments, her eyes resting on his; even though they were the color of a harsh storm, they somehow managed to look so calm and...inviting. She swallowed a little and looked forward again as they approached the ice cream stand.

Luci wiggled out of Mishka's grasp without hesitation, taking the money with absolutely no complaint, "Yes, Captain Mishka!" she saluted him and flapped her arms as if they were wings, giving a little whistling noise and running off to stand in line, still flapping.

Liv giggled and shook her head at Luci, her eyes widening a little as she turned to him, "I do?" she raised an eyebrow until Luci was out of earshot, as were the rest of the people on the beach. Her expression turned to one of shock and apprehension as Mishka swept her curls away from her skin, a little gasp escaping her. She stood rooted on the spot, completely frozen. As his fingertips grazed the bruised area so lightly, a shiver shot up her spine and she gave an involuntary twitch. She blinked and swallowed, turning her head away and coming out of her momentary state of shock. Her throat burned and her heart pounded a little beneath her chest as she looked down at the sand, biting her lip. She hugged her arms around herself and hunched a little, finding it hard to say anything at all, knowing he was watching her with calculating eyes.

"U-uhm...," she laughed a nervous, shuddering laugh, very quiet, "That is...heh....complicated..."

She wanted to tell him. She wanted to explain, and she felt that she probably should have long before now, before she even became friends with him. Of course it wasn't the easiest thing to tell anyone. Most everyone else had just...known. And she had been friends with them for so long, that they all knew it was this little unspoken fact, and they pretended mostly like none of that truth existed. Telling someone new, almost an outsider in a way, was not something she had done before.

On top of that, she really liked Mishka. She was very afraid that if he knew the full extent of her unfortunately very close past, he might never speak to her again. Not to mention the fact that she didn't know what kind of danger she might pose for him; it didn't matter that he already took a risk by joining the Order in the first place. He was still only a Doctor, he was mostly safe being that and only that.

"It's...," she shook her head and lifted one hand to his side, resting it gently against his body in some subconscious effort to make sure he remained relaxed, "..it has to do with Luci's father.." she looked up at him and her hand clenched, taking some of the fabric of his shirt with it as she held onto him, adding with an urgency, "but it isn't what you think."

((ARGHHHHHHH gotta go. Rule of when I get home is no TV while I'm posting k? k. :c Lol.))

Although she wished she could become the New Zealand version of a Mountain Woman, Sil couldn’t tell the difference between a maple tree and a red wood if they had bold print signs let alone survive effectively in the wilderness. Born and bred in the middle of American civilization, she considered any forest larger than Central Park overwhelming and she couldn’t kill an animal if she tried. Thus, when her growling stomach started to scare the local wildlife around her, Sil had to accept it was time to leave the forested labyrinth of peace and return to civilization. It was a rueful realization, as she had started to truly enjoy the company of trees and moss as opposed to people with cognitive processes. However, she liked food and coffee far, far more even if it meant that she had to return to reality.

When she did finally return to the hotel, she was relieved to have a breakfast filled with relative peace. Though Order members flowed in and out of the restaurant in steady streams, none of them were people she was actively avoiding. Her list really only totaled two people, two whom she knew had already eaten together and would likely not be back in the restaurant any time soon. The last thing Sil wanted to do was slink awkwardly out of the room in the middle of her breakfast. Instead of worrying, she found a local newspaper and a table settled in a deep pocket of the room and ate a platter of fruit in harmony.

Though the food was long gone, Sil decided being inside of the restaurant was better than being outside on the beach and enjoyed a warm refill of hot coffee, simply enjoying her paper. One of her long legs was tucked up beneath her, elbow propped on the edge of the table to provide a pillar of support for the palm that cradled her chin as she read. Her guard had fallen—she stopped paying attention to who was coming or leaving and let her mind wander through New Zealand’s current events with avid interest. Even as her lips parted to touch her tongue to the tips of her finger to flip the pages, her mouth still curved ever-so-slightly downward and the cast of her eyes forlorn. A stranger who passed her had even jokingly asked if the paper had done something to break her heart with hopes of making her smile, and she did for a brief moment before diving back into her black-print world. Her other hand toyed with one of the curls that escaped from her bun to rest along the curve of her neck and shoulder, spinning it thoughtlessly around her finger.
