 The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... "Really?" Raevyn asked, raising an eyebrow. He fell silent, thinking. So this was what had been distracting Ashriel so much. "I need to think on this." He said suddenly, rising from the table and leaving just as the bell rang to signal the end of lunch.  The tiger that should be....isn't....

Well, at least he didn't scoff at her question. In fact, he'd received it much better than Ashriel had expected. She quietly walked to her next class, sketch pad in hand. As she sat down, she went back to her drawing of the cat.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn was missing from all his classes that afternoon, wandering around town as he thought. What had prompted that question? Did Ashriel actually like him? It certainly seemed like it. Did he like her? Maybe. But what weighed heavily on his mind was the consequences if some of the were's found. Some he knew, like Mama, wouldn't care. Others, like Fang, would think he was nuts. But then there were the last bunch, like that wolf pack, who would think Ashriel a danger to them all. Did he want to put Ashriel in danger? He sighed, not even noticing the time pass. He should have been home by now, school over already. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel bit her lip as she went through her classes. Her stomach was clenched in nervousness the entire time she went through her afternoon classes, as there was no sign of Raevyn in any of them. Had she stepped over the line? She walked home silently, taking nothing but her sketch pad and pencils as she walked to her apartment, actually remembering her key after what happened during lunch.
She unlocked her door, leaving it unlocked as she slumped on her couch with the pad of paper. Pining time as she watched the clock, she added detail after detail to her drawing. Gradually, she began to draw a faint figure that looked slightly like Raevyn as background for the cat.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn finally caught sight of the sun and cursed, realizing it was well past time for him to be home. He hurried home, then paused just outside the door. He still didn't really have an answer. 'I need to talk to her first.' He decided. She had to know what she was getting into if she wanted to truly date him. Carefully, he opened the door and slipped inside, almost afraid of what was awaiting him. "Ashriel?" He called out to the apartment. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel had fallen asleep sometime after she finished the delicate details on her drawing. It now lay beside her on the floor, face up on her sketch pad. She was sprawled across the sofa, and it looked like she was about to fall off that.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn sighed and smiled as he saw her sprawled out of the couch. He padded closer silently and knelt beside her. Catching sight of the drawing, he lifted the sketch pad. Was that.....No, it couldn't be him. Was it? He shook his head. Not important right now. He reached out a hand to wake Ashriel and hesitated. She looked so peaceful. Brushing back her bangs softly, he realized something - He didn't want to leave her. Didn't want to lose her to someone else. That short time he'd spent away from her had been the hardest thing he'd done in a long time. Finally, he set his hand and her shoulder, shaking the girl lightly. "Ashriel. Ashriel, wake up." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel moaned lightly, her eyes slitting open. Of course, this time she actually woke to that. Even if it was a rarity, that occasionally did wake her. "Hey...I didn't scare you away..." She muttered, as her eyes finished opening.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn chuckled, amazed he hadn't had to resort to food to wake her up. "Nope. Takes more than that to scare me away. I just needed to think." He explained with a smile. His smiled faded though, being replaced by a serious expression. "About your question though......" He trailed off, then sighed. "We need to talk." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel smiled, sitting up quietly. She scooted over on the couch to make room for Raevyn as her face furrowed from confusion. "Okay..."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn moved to sit on the couch, facing Ashriel. "I'm not the safest creature on the planet." He said to start with. "Being with me is very dangerous and you have to understand that. If I'm hurt, I could hurt you." Something he never, ever wanted to happen. But he knew it was a possibility and so Ashriel had to know too. "And if I don't hurt you, others might. That wolf pack from before? If they found out we were dating, you could be in serious trouble. And I'm sure they aren't the only ones out there who would.....disapprove.....of this." He watched Ashriel as he spoke. He had to make sure she fully understood what she would be getting into. "I. am. not. safe. for. you." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel looked at him softly. "Is... Is that really all that you are worried about?" A grin slowly developed on her face. "I can handle myself." She reached into her pencil case to reveal a small survival knife. "If I actually cared if you might hurt me when you were hurt, do you think I would have tried to patch your shoulder yesterday? And I'm sure that I'll be just fine. They don't scare me." Okay, so they had scared her slightly yesterday. But she was unarmed because she'd been going to work. She could keep her knife on her, if necessary. "If you haven't noticed, my life isn't the epitome of safety."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn snorted at the sight of the knife. "Honey, that's gonna do squat if a wolf comes at you. Especially since wolves usually travel in packs." He sighed though. How could he make her understand? "Look Ashriel. You saw the wound I had? If certain were's get wind of anything like what you're suggesting to do, that will be nothing. They will kill you. Without hesitation." He said flatly. How could she not see what he was saying? It wasn't safe for her. "You're in enough danger already, just with me living here. I don't want to add to it." He hated the idea of Ashriel being hurt because of him. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel sighed softly, looking down. She had nothing to say in return, no comeback. Shrugging, she fell back onto the couch, spotting her her sketch pad laying up. He...he must have seen that. Well, she'd just had a block. Yeah, that was why she drew him. She nodded quietly. Her fingers ranked through her hair softly, standing up after a moment to walk to the bathroom.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn sighed, watching her walk off. It really was better this way, he told himself. 'But if that's true, why does it hurt so much?' He sighed, dropping his head into his hands. "I'm sorry Ashriel." He said softly to himself, his voice muffled by his hands. "I just don't want to see you hurt......" The tiger that should be....isn't....
