"Katherine is going to clean the pots and bowls we used!" Katherine began to wash the dishes as other elves were enjoying the baked goods her and Sophie made.

Xanthe rushed back into the kitchen, feeling guilty to have spent so much time on the field watching when she could be helping the others clean and cook like a good house elf. The smell of cookies reached her and she shook her head Oh no! Xanthe though, picking up a mop to go over floor that had clearly been swept recently The others are already in the kitchen! The others have already started dinner! Xanthe is so far behind! Xanthe is a bad elf! She hit herself on the head two or three times for good measure with this internal rebuke.

Katherine looked over at the elf banging her head. "Excuse me Katherine is wondering if she did something wrong? Was it okay for Katherine to make food for us house elves?"

"Katherine really likes to bake and make food! But Katherine will be cleaning all of the mess she is making too!" Katherine said nervously. She hoped she wasn't going to get in trouble. She hadn't even been here a month...oh she hoped they wouldn't kick her out.

"Katherine will do her best to make Hogwarts a very clean place to be! And Katherine will make lots of food that students like!" Katherine told the elf nervously as she began to sweep the kitchen floor.

Katherine put away all of the desserts into containers and cleaned the kitchen table and put away all of the baking materials and utensils that she used. "Katherine will do her best to make this place spick and span!"

While on the Hogwarts Express...
Hope thinks to herself that she can't wait to visit the house elves in the kitchens by her dormitory. Even though she sort of towers over them, she always enjoys seeing their smiling faces and hearing them recount, with great pride, the amazing cleaning and cooking accomplishments they have made over the summer as well as in preparation for the Hogwarts students' return. Not to mention, Hope thinks the elves enjoy a great deal of satisfaction when she then thanks them graciously for having made those accomplishments, adding that they must be the very best house elves that Hogwarts has ever seen.
Plus, the elves generally don't mind Hope's pet goat, Dillius (who can get a bit restless cooped up in the Hufflepuff commonroom, from time to time). As long as he behaves himself, the elves will usually give Dilly raw oats and fresh fruits and vegetables. Sometimes they will even let him play "king of the mountain" on top of the dirty dish pile after breakfast or lunch.
These lovely thoughts going through her mind, Hope wonders what the house elves might be doing at that very moment to prepare for the Start-of-Term Feast...

Lilli knocked over a stack of plates and squeaked in dismay, her ears twitching.
"Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear," she muttered to herself, scurrying around and gathering them all up before placing them in the sink to re-wash. "Lilli must finish and be a good house elf, the students is coming soon! The students is on the train!"

Katherine looked over at the house elf washing the dishes. "Did you say the students is coming soon? Katherine is very excited! Oh we must make this place look SPOTLESS!!," she said excitedly as she begun to sweep the floor quickly.

Flux walked in."Flux was freed by masters, masters give Flux hat. Flux wear hat and work in kitchen. Flux work in Hogwarts kitchen and make food for students! Cook, cook, cook!" Flux says. "Must make juice, for students! Students love pumpkin juice. Flux makes custard, too!"

Annette came back into the kitchens after the world cup. "Ah! A new elfs! Annette will help Flux!" She said happily. She ran over to the shelves and pulled down enough ingredients for thirty pies, almost falling down on the way.

Flux saw Annette. He stopped making his custard and ran over to help. He grabbed half the supplies and walked to another counter. He set them down and ran back to his counter. "Oh no! Flux's custard is all a mess! Flux will start over, Flux must punish himself!" he said, and her took a meat mallet to his forehead.

"Stop!" Annette snatched the meat mallet from Flux's hands and laid it on the counter. "Doing that will just stall the cleaning up the mess." She grabbed a cloth and started to clean.
