STAB stands for Same Type As Battler. A move used by a pokemon of the same type as the move gets a damage multiplier of 1.5. (ie Fire type using flamethrower)

STAB = Same Type Attack Boost
For example, if a fire type uses a fire move, it gains a x1.5 power boost. =]

Yet you didn't know what STAB is. BTW, I have developed the same hate for Earthquake as you. My poor Houndoom. We should start an Earthquake haters club. XD
