Whu-whu-whu-whu
They were two specks on the horizon, low going like a couple of ducks that were in it more for the scenery and not survival.
Whuh-whuh-whuh-whuh
But those ducks got closer, and larger, and just a bit louder. Of course, someone outside or looking out the window would be able to see these two "ducks" as they took on their true form as distance closed. Two helicopters-- one more close to what people instantly think of. The second, larger.
And they were headed right for the Firebrand.
PHU-PHU-PHU-PHU-PHU
The sand, as the choppers claimed space by hovering, was strewn all about by the rotor winds. The landing, smooth for both loud vehicles. The ride was smooth too, if the passengers managed not to kill each other on the way there.
There was no reason to not kill the motor, to not get off. The Black Hawk's door opened, and she was the first to exit, taking off the helmet. After an appraising look and nod to the establishment, she turned to the customized Chinook (which had Terrato emblazoned on the side). Putting on her best Harrison Ford voice, Twitch commanded of the passengers:
"Get off my plane!"

As his head leaned back against he hull of the chopper, Anuksu suddenly twitched involuntarily, almost wincing slightly. Hopefully either they would reach their destination quickly or that blasted sun would set. Not only was his eyesight much poorer during the day, but the sun had another far more painful effect. Though spending time in the light of the sun did not actually harm Anuksu, another bit of the demon's fine print was that it would constantly feel as though it was searing away his flesh. Despite the fact that Anuksu was very used to this feeling by now, and could function almost normally during its effect, it didn't help at all with the pain, for as he began to resist its effects, it intensified.
Quickly realising what he had done, he shifted slightly in his seat, still not opening his eyes to try and make it look as though he had meant to do so in the first place.
As he grew comfortable once more, thinking too much on the demon's deal brought back familiar painful memories, and they began to cloud his mind.
---
...He could again, feel the rain lightly kissing his skin and flowing down his wings. He could feel the flames from the ruined tower behind him. He could feel the tears sting his eyes. He could feel his body drained from using far too much healing magic... magic which had proved innefective. He could hear the voice of the demon lord as he whispered promises of aid to him, which Anuksu had managed to ignore.
But it was not the rain, or the fire, or the tears, or the voice, or even his exhaustion that held his attention. It was the girl in his arms... dying. He moved his wings forward to slightly shield her from the rain. A moot point, but one rarely thinks of such things when faced with death.
"Anuksu... don't do it. Remember *cough*
She coughed up another mouthful of blood, which Anuksu wiped away quickly.
... remember what you... stand for..."
Her voice was weak as the last of her blood left her, bleeding out all over Anuksu as he held her. Her wounds had been too great for any vampire to survive, even one as old as she. Even as she was dying, she stared back at him with loving eyes, and placed a hand on his cheek. "Don't talk."
He heard himself say. As though that would save her. He knew she was going to die, but he still found himself unwilling to accept it.
The demon smiled as he could tell that the paladin's will was faltering at seeing his love dying before him. Anuksu could again hear his mocking voice after he had given his offer for help. The demon looked down at a nonexistent watch and tapped his wrist.
"It doesn't look like she's got a lot of time to wait for you decide."
In this moment, his righteousness, his courage, his devotion, as well as all of his magic, all of his skill, all of his power... were all nothing. He had fought against the unimaginable terrors of the world unafraid, and come out victorious. But in this one moment, fear held his heart tightly in its grip. He had found the one monster he could not protect others from... death.
---
Fortunately the sound of the chopper landing and Twitch ordering everyone to get off snapped him back to reality. As he slipped off the chopper, he tapped into a bit of his vampiric magic, making the wings above his ears, as well as a bit of bulk from underneath his cloak seem to dissapear.

Damion didn't need to be told twice, rising in one swift motion and walking down the back of the chinook, out the ramp and away from the machine. He'd been silent the entire time, peicing everything together in his head until it made a puzzle, one he hadn't yet made sense of. Peices still missing, it looked like something a child would construct, but then again it was all in his mind." Who....and why." Those were the parts missing, parts he intended to find asap, from those who could provide them.
Their location didn't escape his notice either, a nice warm tavern or something to that effect. " Thanks for the lift." He'd offer Twitch, walking close so she could hear him, before heading into the building and whatever lay inside, picking a spot at the bar to survey.

The new comers as well as a great big...machine landing in the front yard was not ignored, most of the customers, pints in hand, of course, went to go have looks out the windows at the people coming in. Sun was curious as well, but more about who was coming through the door, instead of what they came in.
He lightly tapped the bar again, and ordered two, digging into his back pocket for the appropriate, if a little singed, note. The bar tender looked at it, raised an eyebrow, and put it into the til.
"Don't worry bout change, I'll probably need more." Carefully he handed one of the glasses of dark coloured liquid to Madi.
"Here. And yeah, I'm Sun. How can I help you, bunny?" He was half distracted, wondering how many more people would be coming in, before taking a large sip of his drink.
A few more...and it'd probably be enough...

Scarker "More healing?" Scarker blinked at the woman. It wasn't because she had just been a cat a few seconds ago, no that was normal. It was because she was acting like she'd helped him before. It took him a moment to shrug this off, but he beckoned her up the stairs once he did. "I don't know about more healing, but there's this big guy that I got a room with. He seems really sick and I don't know how to help him." He lead the woman into the room he had gotten, turning on the lights as he made his way over to the second bed where Rain was most likely still tossing, turning, sweating, and groaning. The other bed was still soaked through and mangled from his stay on it, but that's not what the mage was concerned with. ((Stupid need for work and sleep sweatdrop so this is a bit of backtracking...)) Rave had been confused by the fact that she had thought someone else had taken care of the wounded a bit earlier, but she didn't bother to correct Scarker, only glancing over her shoulder with a smart little smile for Sun and a parting comment. " Rae and Maxi are on their way Sun." She quietly followed behind Scarker to the room where Rain was trying to wrestle with the bedding, stopping on the threshold with a slight gasp as she felt her own senses dull within the void that Rain had created around him. Orange eyes blinked once in shock before she took a slight step back and pulled a large EMT duffel bag out of what would have appeared to be a little black hole. Her kit in hand she bravely marched into an area that made her more than slightly uncomfortable, and went to check on the unconscious man. " Would you mind getting me some fresh sheets, and if you really wouldn't mind my Twin will be arriving soon, and when she does could you tell her I am here?!" Rave asked Scarker as she set the bag on the edge of the bed and started with the basics on Rain, checking his pulse and watching his breathing. ((and back to the present)) Unchecked Twitch There was no reason to not kill the motor, to not get off. The Black Hawk's door opened, and she was the first to exit, taking off the helmet. "Get off my plane!"Rae had closed her eyes as they landed paying that they could get the heck out of the tin can now...orange eyes opened again a moment later as Hono went all fuzzy on her, like the signal on an old radio... but they were there now and she scooped Maximos back into her arms and happily got out of the chopper with the others, grinning as she felt the press of humanity near... no more worries over energy, at least not for a while. She nodded her thanks to Twitch and hoped there was someplace to put Maxi down in there, he was too damn tall for her not to worry about tripping while carrying him xp

Rain would be in the fits of more spasming, almost identical to Goku with the heart virus (if you don't mind the DBZ reference), sans the chest-grabbing. His breathing would be strained, the same kind of breathing one does when they're out of breath in a very humid atmosphere. Though, to the touch, he was deathly cold. His pulse was unusually high, but not quite over-the-top.
Though, at one point, a bulge would seem to form, pushing up his hair, a few inches from the crown of his skull. It would travel a few inches back and shrink back down again while also disappearing from sight between himself and the pillow.

The seven foot woman came out behind Rae. The chopper ride had been a fairly quiet one. Everyone was lost in their own thoughts. Rae was still carrying Maximos, and she didn't seem all that sure about her footing.
"I can carry him, if you like?"
It would be a small task for her, but she had a feeling Rae wouldn't let her anyway. She figured it was all about trust, and she knew that Maximos and Rae were close friends that was built on a lot of trust.
As she passed Twitch she nodded at the woman.
"Thanks for the ride."

It would travel a few inches back and shrink back down again while also disappearing from sight between himself and the pillow. Hono had a moment to pray that she had not actually seen something move out of the corner of her eye, wondering if the man had pests or if it was something he had caught from the bed xp It was a risk, but she let go of his wrist to quickly braid her long red and black striped hair out of her way before she sat on the bed next to him. She knew better than to try and restrain him even if it looked like he was having a seizure and might thrash himself right off the bed. If it came to that, she could keep him from falling to the floor and potentially hurting himself even worse! She quickly pulled the pillow away, tossing it on the other bed so that he was laying flat, and then the soaked top sheet, tossing that to the floor at the end of the bed. The next step was harder since there was a dampening field in the room, but she did manage to summon two large yellow wisps, setting them about three feet above the bed where they not only lit up the room like it was noon in an open field, but they raised the entire room temperature by a good 25°C. Hono thought it was nice and toasty warm now... but most people would find the room almost sickeningly hot. If this was something normal then there was a chance that the man could simply sweat out the illness in a few hours, although she would have to watch him very closely to make certain that he did not become dehydrated! Katie was wrong about the trust thing, if anything Rae was more worried about having to fend off an attack with her arms full than in handing her friend over to someone else while he was out xp . It would have been different if Quinn or Anuksu had asked, they were not real high on her trustworthy list at the moment, but she had no reason not to trust Katie! She had told Damion no before due to the simple fact that she needed to establish a strong connection to Maximos magically speaking, that was done now and so she nodded to Katie with a grin. " If you wouldn't mind? I haven't been here before, and I think he would be a tad mad at me if I managed to trip over his arm on the stairs and sent us both for a tumble!" xd

A few hours? That wouldn't be the case, as Hono would know by the end of this post. For several minutes, during Hono's (and possibly Scarker's) stay, Rain would continue to writhe in his fever-induced state. Read the previous posts to understand what that entailed, since there was no sense repeating it. But then, Rain (despite his unconsciousness) would gasp audibly while all the muscles in his body locked in a violent, back-arching spasm, practically lifting his whole body off the bed, before he would fall still, limp. And for a few seconds, nothing would happen. Until a tiny spray of... what could be described as a mix of blood and ichor, a sickenly purple-black color, sprayed from his left ear across the white mattress sheets. Rain would start twitching, as the bulge appeared once again, nearing the side of his head. Then, something would crawl out through the ear canal. Something small and insect like. What could only be described as a pitch-black pill bug freed itself, falling from the side of Rain's head, and hastily skittering towards the edge of the bed on numerous legs. Rain would finally come to a rest, his feverish twitching subsiding rather quickly.

Well the bug had another think coming if it thought Raven was going to go all girly and run away screaming, she was a bird after all, and more inclined to eat bugs than to be afraid of them....she wasn't going to try and eat this bug though, but that was mostly due to the simple fact that she knew where it had just come from, and thought that brains would likely give her indigestion! xp
With a slight growl she snapped a hand towards the bug, intent on sending it flying into the nearest wall where she could more easily squish it or at least pin it with a gust of wind while she checked the man before trying to get a better look at the nasty little critter. No use in killing it right away when she had no idea what the heck it was...

Katie was surprised that Rae took her offer. She smiled at the other woman. She knew in that moment that Rae trusted her, which meant a lot.
"I don't mind at all."
She brought her arms down to Rae, since she was marginally taller than her. With a care and ease, she lifted the man from her arms and started towards the entrance of the bar.
"He's been through a lot today. I'm sure a tumble wouldn't even faze him. Hell, he got shot in the leg, and I don't think he even flinched."
With Maximos in her arms she paid special attention to her footing, not wanting to actually take a tumble like Rae had suggested. She was taller and bigger than Rae, so if she fell her weight on Maximos would probably be a lot worse than Rae landing on him.

The pill bug would curl up into a ball in midair, bouncing off the wall and rolling a bit across the boarded floor of the Tavern, unmoving.
Rain himself was still nowhere near consciousness. There was a slight dribble of the fluid staining the sheets from his ear, but other than that, he seemed to be... well, fine. His body temperature was quickly returning to normal, he stopped sweating (despite the heat increase), and he actually looked peaceful.
When Hono would once more look at the curled-up pill bug across the room, it seemed larger than before. In fact, it was larger. From an inch or two, to almost half a foot. It just then uncurled itself, and began to crawl around the floorboards, as if looking for something.

Katie was almost two feet taller than Rae so there was quite a difference there as she passed Maxi over to the other woman, a noticeable spring back in her step as she headed into the tavern. " We wouldn't want everyone worrying about being shot in the back just because someone got a bit of an itchy trigger finger... that would do no one any good, and I think Mr. Quinn has learned his lesson for now!" She was trying to hide her need to find out what was causing all the fuzz on her connection to Hono, worried that it was something that could become permanent more than anything else sweatdrop

Hono usually tried not to be too judgmental, and she didn't know if what had happened was normal for the man, but he did look better now that the bug was out, so that led to the thought that the bug was a parasite. Turning her attention away from the man again she glared at the bug as it started skittering across the floor, mentally preparing a wind spell to create a shell of hardened air (like a big plastic bowl) to try and trap the bug if it tried to get away or even attack.

Just then, the pill bug would kind of rear up, and... look at Hono?
It then continued its scramble, finally finding what it was looking for: a break or hole in the floorboards enough for it to wiggle out of. And wiggle it did!
If permitted to escape, Hono, Rae, and anyone else with a psychic presence would find that the void in the room would likewise fade away as the bug would escape the confines of the Firebrand. Or would it?
